View Full Version : Happy New Year WirePlay
Okay - I believe someone at WirePlay actually asked for this - a list of New Years resolutions... This is just my version - please add some more http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
1. Remove all aliases not used in the last three months and allow users to remove aliases they have but no longer require...
2. Remove all clubs that don't reach a certain set of criteria (like created long ago or not having a certain amount of membership)...
3. Kick the dozen or so stuck aliases on Rapid Channel and investigate why they keep getting stuck (3am backup related) but not removed as they used to...
4. An open discussion on the 3am backup issue - is it really the best time???
5. Complete re-think of aliases - should we log on as a user and then choose our alias from a list??? Club captains and officials should be able to have aliases that distiguish them as official (perhaps a different face in the prop???)...
6. More powers to club captains - particularly in terms of kicking abusive users...
7. Closer contact between WirePlay staff and forums i.e. keep reading these boards http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif Also can the help desk staff be introduced in to using the boards as many of them will be able to answer questions directly...
8. A new mail box folder for sent items...
9. A web page or forum specifically for new and requested games... This should also include what is being tested...
10. Greater support for club captains generally - including WirePlay hosted web space, WirePlay emails, WirePlay mailing lists etc...
11. Introduce new payment methods for those without credit cards...
12. Perhaps offer alternative prizes - I know some people would be more interested if things like free subscriptions were on offer...
13. Improved WirePlanner i.e. far more prominence - my suggestion is that the start up screen is devoted to that evening's entertainment...
14. More Newbie support - they are often forgotten on here as we've all been WirePlayers for a while now - but I still get asked questions by people who haven't a clue about where to go and what to do... Maybe we can have a little paper-clip thing like in Word that tells newbies what to do??? Silly idea http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/redface.gif
15. Rapid Channel - More crashes than 1000 women at Silverstone... I had 3 more tonite... Perhaps a ping guage could be incorporated to a users details screen so at least we would have more idea that a crash might occur...
16. Problems connecting to Mind Channel - I don't know whether this has been sorted as I only use it a couple of times a week... However, it severely disrupts our Poker Tournys as there is normally at least one person a week who can't get on...
17. Newsletters and Open Forums... I'm hoping that Hawkboss keeps up his newsletters and Athanateus does some more open forum evenings as both provoke interesting comments and ideas...
18. General client improvements - several people have asked for the pager to be less annoying - both in size and the way control jumps to it when you get paged... Perhaps we can start another discussion on this???
19. Abusive CVs - can you write a program that blanks out certain words etc - as it does on here???
20. We've just had a bit of a fuss over hackers - I'd like to see a clear policy on dealing with hackers including a promise to prosecute them to the full extent of the law...
These resolutions weren't listed in order of importance...
That'll do from me - add some more if I haven't used them all...

Happy New Year to everyone - thanks Velvet
New years resolutions - never ask for comments http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
Seriously this is great - I'm not just paying lip service - I may or may not agree with all your points but I'm going to take a serious look at what we can do to address at least the key points
As you know we are already looking at some of these but I'll keep you informed.
In the meantime - if anyone else has comments please make them here!!

Hi all
and a happy new year.
nice comments velvet and i agree with all of them my main one is to stamp out all the aliases perhaps make a limit to how many you could have this would make tourneys fair hopefully.
it will stop people loosing in a tourney then re entering with a different name like all those in duke ladder did everyone know that 1 person in duke ladder is there at least 3 times as different names, now this cant be fair can it?
as for this chess and backgammon played over the internet well i did try it and to be honest didnt have a clue to what was going on ended up giving up,,perhaps you can make it slightly more user friendly???
As to prize money allocation i would like to see more free games given away i mean top games but games which are playable in wireplay.
well thats all from me for know.
your ever trusted servent...siefly..

Happy New Year all! http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/biggrin.gif
Good one Velvet! http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
Oh, and Wireplay to read the thread started by HOG on the Tech board titled Nicknames - Questions for Wireplay, including my comments and ideas of course!
...And keep the Community info up to date. e.g. the Unreal stuff is ages out of date and its not helpful to newbies to be told they need one patch and then find elsewhere that in fact they need another. This is the third time of asking!
I know you guys are busy and I think you do a good job, but I would like to see WP personnel try to reply more often to questions put directly to them (or maybe we should all change our aliases to "Velvet" to ensure a reply http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/wink.gif hehe).
Quee
Also once you sort out the faces how about ALSO having them in the threads under the names of people who have posted to help you remember which ones you have read. I often find myself reading the threads several times foigetting where i left off.

Athanateus m8 - I'd like to know which ideas you don't agree with http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif Hope it isn't the one about you doing another (or regular) open forum evenings http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/wink.gif
Sie m8 - I like the games idea - free games as prizes - now that can only encourage more time on WirePlay than using won HMV vouchers to buy the latest Corrs/Steps/Spice Girls album etc...
Stamper - I don't think anyone said your name - but I do think that having an indicator letting you know which actual posts on a thread you have read is good idea... Although I like to read from the top anyways http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
James D33 - no one asked you to vote... I asked for more suggestions - if you haven't got anything constructive to say (dunno where I got that idea???) then go away http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/biggrin.gif
Quee m8 - Unfortunately there are a lot of good points all over the place... I created this list from all the major discussion points of this board and the Tech board on both old and new forums so hopefully it should cover most things... The other way to appear that you get a reply to your thread from WirePlay everytime is to post just before they get to the boards so that your topic is at the top... Best way to do it is late at night - cause only someone working at WirePlay is going to be awake first thing in the morning - sorting out all the things we've got them doing - hehe http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
Pie m8 - I think I'll leave Hog to start another client improvements thread as he always has more ideas for the client than I do... If you're worried about hackers then check resolution 20...

God, I knew I should have copyrighted ALL my ideas Velvet you gypsy git http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
Yer not much to add to that lot, except:
1. More power to the CC and HD
2. Rapid Play needs fixing urgently.
3. Proper 56k support needs adding (for all protocols.
4. Hog needs to be a captain again.
5. Stop wasting money on crap advertising campaigns when you are getting the best free stuff from mag cds and articles ala PC ZOne etc.
6. As Velvet sez, the alleged "hackerZ" are just a bunch of stupid kids who think they are cool, let HD have access to these boards (admin wise) and instead of stopping threads, remove em. You must be able to do this cant ya?
7. Get that list of games that can and cant etc up ASAP.
8 Lose the cv feature in the client, its a waste of time.
9 Add some decent games onto the net service, chess and backgammon are OK but.....
10 make the pager smaller and have it possible to view your contacts list while on the boards like the zone does.
11 Give the CC all proper www.wireplay.co.uk/XXXX type web addresses
12 Erm that is all I can think of for the mo, I ll get back to you.... http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/wink.gif

Velvet m8 - maybe the red and green boxes don't show up to WP personnel either, or they would find it easy to see and then read what new postings they've got http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/wink.gif. They should have the posting times to refer to as well.
I don't think it should be necessary to post at a particular time to catch WP's attention.
I'm talking particularly about direct questions made to WP, not general points for discussion or posts you expect other people to answer. That's not to say that they shouldn't respond to some of those as well where appropriate but that's not my point. It's not a question of WP picking up "good points" from the boards.
I'd rather they say they haven't got an answer or put it out for further discussion than just ignore them.
Cheers,
Quee
ROFL - Wow Quee - you've found another WirePlay conspiracy... A chance for them to say "oh - sorry we didn't reply but the forums were showing no new messages" - nice one http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
I agree that WirePlay should check these forums often (resolution 7) but when they aren't on their Christmas hols (and even when they are) Hawkboss, Athanateus and Uprising seem to be doing a much better job...

Velvet - you've spotted it too! hehe http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/wink.gif lol.
Nah - this goes back well before the hols. I've taken account of them.
PS Do you ever go to bed m8?
Quee - you have to admit though - that just before the holidays the ammunt of replies from WirePlay increased - and Uprising and Athanateus have been replying from home over Christmas which is very encouraging... As long as they don't stop I reckon we can get a lot achieved in 1999...
I do sleep - I've just woken up http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif But I tend to find very little goes on before lunch time anyway http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif
Well?
Did you manage to keep any of them then?! :)
