I decided to reboot server 62.105.80.18 this morning while it was quiet and cannot now access the machine, VNC server does appear to be running but it fails to connect clients as it should.

Could somebody take a look at this for me please and get it functional again before Ladywarrior notices and beats me up please :P

Ta ;)

When you get access back set VNC up as a service so it restarts automatically next time ;)

Well duh :P it was installed to run as a service, this machine has been rebooted before and all was fine then. In fact it's actually running now just it will not display anything when I connect.

Thanks Breath - I did send Qube an email I will do the same for Pigwhistler too, though he should have read this already (I think it does need to be done locally though, yeah).

Spiffing Sir,

Do you think you could also take a quick look at why this happened, just so I know whether a reboot is a sensible thing to do or not. Don't worry if you don't have the time :)

From experience reboot's are always a bit of a risk with VNC because often they'll fail, particularly if you've got programs etc still open. If VNC's services get shutdown, or partly shutdown before windows finds some other piece of software that requires an end task or something, your basically stuck with the machine waiting for your response and VNC inaccessible.

Aye could be Steve, I'm pretty sure this is the opposite way around and its hung upon getting back into Windows, possibly the same cause and effect though, I am sure whoever sorts it out will do a post mortem ;)

It's always been ok rebooting up 'til now so I would hope that the cause is something obvious. It would be a shame to be prevented from restarting as that one can be a right b*tch sometimes :P

This is what happens with this box, a program can't exit so the box never reboots.

You then loose VNC access!!!

I got an email from a Lt. Sex Machine which I thought was spam (due to the sender) and binned it without opening it.

Possibly not the best name to use in an email considering the amount of spam that does the rounds these days.

Qube.

That's weird cos it's not mentioned in my email address - I had to send the email via the forums as it wasn't obvious what your email addresses are, maybe it appends for forum user name to the subject or something. Even then the email would have come from a known source, that being the Wireplay email server so I don't quite get how that should be a problem.

Anyway no matter, thanks for getting up back up again, and the name stays :P
