View Full Version : Routing Changes

We've made some further changes to routing which should improve performance. You may not see fewer hops but hopefully you should have a smoother connection with slightly lower pings.
We are constantly trying to improve the network and this is just the latest step in this process.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

What would these changes be?

Who do they benefit?

:O

I'd say it's knocked approx 1 hop off mine on ntl, down to 11 hops now.

It's knocked some hops off me, but yeah, thanks alot, takes a shorter but crapper route, CS is now completely unplayable :'(

your servers are getting worse if you want to be a serious games supplier i think its about time you did something about it cos at the moment its a laughing stock. I understand you are working with limited resourses but this is just harming the reputation of Wireplay which will obviously impact on any future plans.

feel the pain of trying to run a league on half arsed servers

Andie - which servers in particular (i.e. which league) and is it lag or the servers ?

SteveP

It would be TFC :P

It's generally ping is double of that of other server providers ie Burstfire, but imo this is typical off all Wireplay games, not just TFC. The more people per server, the worse it gets, and we're talking about even if only one server is running on a box, not multiple.

For me personally, who generally has a good connection to Wireplay, rather than the majority my lowest ping (approx) would be 31, as opposed to Burstfires 21. In game, Wireplays can be anything between this 31 and 80, averaging say 50. Burstfire would be 21 to 50, averaging in the 30's.

So, we're left generally with servers that few people want to play on, because they know they'll be pinging around the 100 mark on ADSL. A high percentage of the league games generally now gets played on clans own servers where possible, because the Wireplay Network simply isn't upto the job currently and clans wouldn't even join the league if they had to play on the Wireplay Servers.

It's not servers, it's all bad networking problems. Even the new 2GHz boxes with all that power are still exactly the same sort of ping behind the network they currently sit on. I don't know many who would even consider renting a server whilst the network is in it's current state.

I know your trying to get things sorted and your only nearly 8 months into it, but we have had 18 months of these same problems, so thats why there is a lot of frustration about it. The Wireplay servers have never been the best in the 4+ years i've been about, but they certainly been at their very worse in the Arenatek + days. I know Qube rants on about Wireplay/Firstnet ADSL if you want a good ping, but i don't think anyones that interested in playing on themselves. Once people are on the servers and into Wireplay, then thats when they'll seek the extra ping advatage a Wireplay ADSL package might give them.

I hope the above don't sound too harsh, cause i know your trying and fully appreciate your efforts with the current limitations you have.

I'm sorry, but it's true. I am exceptionally slow due to the odd european routing I'm getting. But even those with fairly good routing aren't getting anything impressive.

With a game like CS there are so many servers, there is no reason to play on Wireplay. Why play with a ping of 80ms when you can play with a ping of 20ms on Jolt?

Forums still take ~25s to load the main page fully for me :( Its got to the point where I only read these forums when I cant think of any other sites to go to.
Don't really play on the servers enough to comment.

WP was where I started my online gaming and I spent a couple of years playing solely on WP servers, and at the time was without a doubt the biggest and best gsp around - its a shame to see it struggling so much these days. But then again, the only thing it has in common with the 'real' wireplay is the name ;(

my connection (ntl) has been fine to them for the past 2 months with increased ping but little effect to gameplay but the past few days ( since improvements *cough* ) ping has got even worse and now choke and packetloss which makes it unplayable in comparison to other servers like burstfire.
