How about a more general New Games forum (and one made more prominent than just being dumped in the general interests section at the end of the index page). This forum could be used for CT to (informally, of course) pimp his wares (and by the by actually help people keep up to date on release dates and stuff). Ditch the "New Games Demo Thingy" forum and join it with this forum. This forum would also be helpful to judge the merits of creating forums for new games, as well as eventually see if it's worthwhile running server(s) for the new games, rather than servers being added for games that officials happen to like at the time.
ooo...do i see one of my ideas up there? :D
but yes...good good...get this forum merging going on please...less forums = more people technically...
having just read mgm's post though..i really like that idea..possible to do vamps?

Ok how about we take the New games demo forum.. shift it to the top of the list and call it New Games Forum. Boggeh and someone else can mod it :E
i meant..breath..not vamps
that hiding behind vamps is getting to me i think...:rolling:

Merging sub forums that are mods of a gametype is one thing ( RQ3 into Q3 for example ) but merging all the Quakes together? Not a good idea.

the problem with Q2 / Q3 there are not the players to sustain the posting base its not like it used to be.
as you can see from the forum atm all that’s happening is bickering and flaming.
having a generalized Quake's forum is probably the best instead of having 4 forums that aren't used.
as more and more forums come into the lime light the lesser forums will have to start to merg as the last thing ppl want is to wait hours for 100's of forums to load befor actully starting to get to the post's
Just don't merge TFC in with anything ;)

Presently 5 and Q4 will be bundled under the same lot by this reckoning then as well?
And if you do it with Q, you got to do it with the majority of forums, so you be slimming the forums down by an average of what 30-odd % at least then?
You need to have forums dedicated to the servers you run, you still run Q2 & Q3 servers, I would say this for any gametype.
Re: bickering and flaming. Yes and a general q forum will put posters off even more due to that.
Re: 100s of forums. So you cant sub-cat more then, and sub-group game series?
All in fairness, you could easierly cut it back from 5 to 3 and even perhaps 2, if you based it on servers/regular posts. ( I would merge the RQ3 threads into the Q3 forum and try to merge the others into their pre-existing archives. ).
I think that would be a fairer situation presently and you could re-evalute either: after every forum was looked at for possible mergers/tidying up OR when it comes a closer time for Q4 to be an issue to think about adding.
mgms post here and some of Khaz & others pionts/suggestions over on the new forums forums "A proposed merger" seem a good thing to consider.

Combine all the console forums and put a bullet-hard moderator in charge to stamp on any childish 'omfg teh xbocks suxxxx gaemcueb is for teh kiddiez!!!1' type posts. They're barely used at the moment, but combining them will force the disparate groups together.

Damned straight.
Hell, our Wrestling forum gets more posts about games than all five of the console forums does. Just merge the lot of them into one 'Console Gaming' forum. Take the Phantasy Star Online forum and bag that in with it, too.
You can guarantee it'd shake things up pretty quickly.
Assuming the forum is active, you're taking about twenty people spread across five forums into twenty people crammed into one forum - That's good for the amount of potential posts and good for discussion. Light moderation being the order of the day - It's only a tiny minority that are going to flame and once you've closed those threads half a dozen times, you'd rarely need to do it again.
Drawing lines between formats is an archaic practice anyway. Let's all just get along.
That's a beautiful speech
Go on my son!! :D

Hmm. If it happens, I'd happily put myself forward to mod it. Assuming PCM doesn't want to do it that is.
are you kidding?
PCM's just waiting for the next batch of consoles to come through so he can smite ignoramuses who say "MY CONSOLE IZ BETTER THAN URS!!!1111!!!111LOLOLOLLOOOLOL"
etc...
:E
actualy come to think of it...so would i. :spin:
