Dear Friends,

Very rarely do I find the need to take audience and address many people at once in such a bold fashion, but sometimes things must be done.

This post is a place for those of us who share a commonality together to write requesting the administration of Wireplay to keep alive something we hold dear. The commonality I speak of is the fact that those of us posting here have a gaming experience, a realm, a set of lands, a set of buildings, but most of all a group of friendships and relationships. We have all this commonality in one great meeting place, and it is that meeting place, the City of Pleasure, which we hold so dear.

For whatever reason there are issues that threaten to take this away from us, issues that we may not have caused, but issues that we are being forced to suffer the consequences of. If these issues cause the City of Pleasure to go down, it will be a great loss. For not only would we loose a meeting place, but we would also loose hundreds of hours of work that we poured into our own houses, shops, landscapes, and areas. We would loose a place we could count on to be enjoyable, challenging, and intriguing. Most of all we would loose an unimaginable chunk of creativity, diversity, and true art.

Yet with all this, I cannot truly speak for anyone save myself...

I came to Neverwinter Nights Multiplayer with much reservation. I had taken a rather long hiatus from playing any sort of online roleplaying game due to being severly hurt by my experiences in a Starwars Sim on IRC several years back. I came to see if the online community was different than most other online communities. Being a long-time Counterstrike player (since Beta 2), a long time Natural Selection player, and a long time gamer in general, I came hoping that the NWN community hadn't yet completely degenerated into the lowest common denominator as so many other gaming communities have. After searching through several servers, I hopped on to the City of Pleasure server. Within minutes I realized that there was something different about the server. I met a wonderful lady named Tandi, and I was instantly involved in an RP to protect a man from assasination. The Roleplaying was so well done, and the characters so vivid that I was hooked. Day after day I came back, to play, to interact, and to explore. I walked my character around every area I could get access to and soaked up the mystery and magic of the place. I was quickly taken by the Dark Forrest area, and I visited there often, just for the scenery. Most of all though, I was enchanted by the players. Many diverse and vivid characters could be found within the City and surrounding areas, and of these players I made true friends. Eventually I was asked to be a guard and game master for the city, a job that I didn't feel fully prepared for, but a responsibility that I gladly took. The added complexities of being a guard and game master gave me new goals to strive for, as I was no longer only responsible for my own enjoyment and safety, but now I had a whole city that I had to watch over, but at the same time strive to keep engaged. I tried my hardest, and still do, but I am not the best guage of my own success at this, those players whom I've helped, encouraged, interacted with, and supported are. Yet truly, as faulted as it may be, in the city I had, and have found a virtual home. I know I'm not the only one, but for this one moment, I ask the Wireplay Administration to listen. Please, don't take away our server. Please, don't take away our home.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Scolamiero

This is a problem that you are going to have to resolve with Katana, your Community Liaison. From what I have been told on this subject it's not just a case of us turning it off because we fancy it, or to spite people. If our communities like something we will do our best to keep it, that's the whole idea.

I am locking this thread as there is a duplicate thread in the NWN forum, having two will be confusing. Please could you post your discussion to the other thread:

Good luck,

Dash.
