Hello all ,
Just wondering ... as the use of the tng server is increasing (and rightly so I might add) Does the individual ping of the players adversely (gotta leen haw to spool :) ) affect the overall delay of packet sent by the server to the non-polled players.

Only reason Ive asked is that lag has been making my life hell recently --- pretty soon peeps are gonna think I can be beaten all the time :)

Regards

Ogier (or connectations there of...)

Ill try to answer you as best i can m8 :P

The server itself runs off a 4mb pipe running into a 100mb connex again plugged directly into the uk backbone, so bandwidth isnt the issue.

The probs we have been having can be put down to two factors :

Security
Server specification.

The former i cant discuss but anyone who knows how it works can guess why the lagg could be "suddenly" present, the latter i can.
Im not sure why we are having problems with the server as both you and i have been on with 30+ peeps without even a hitch, so i know the server is very capable of it.
Freelancer is extremely resource intensive, and being modded it ups the demands on the hardwear,as i said it should be able to handle it but this is the first time we have actually stress tested it.

Regardless tho we are attempting to get more resources for the server inc higher spec of equipment to work with.
What id like to get is a 3 gig machine that could support up to 60 peeps :D without a hitch, wouldnt that be something :o

But it all comes down to cash in the end :/
When more peeps pay for wireplay services we can get more money spent on us :E

And lastly you have to consider the recent changeover. Firstnet our supplier has been bought out by GX, now this will mean some dodgy networks for a few weeks but the pros outway the cons by far. Through the new supplier we will have supreme peering and network capabilities that overshadow pretty much ALL other well know GSPs :E and that is a damn good thing lol. They are literally plugged into everybody inc BT and all the major suppliers of home connections.
So with a bit of luck the "futures bright, the futures wireplay" cough*.

But do remember for the next few weeks we will suffer some network slowdown on both the servers and forums until the new network is established.
