SAVAGE: The Battle for Newerth

Choose to be a commander and you will play an in-depth RTS managing the stronghold, or choose to be a warrior and you will play an intense game of first person combat. With the creation of a new game play genre, RTSS (Real Time Strategy Shooter), Savage expertly redefines the first-person shooter and real-time strategy genres by combining elements of both into one cohesive experience. As the commander in RTS mode, you will tackle resource management, develop a robust tech tree, plan your assault and lead real human players into battle. As a warrior in action mode, you will master many unique weapons, powerful units, and siege vehicles to fight a fast paced battle.

I think it's been out since September 10th, but only in the US.

There's supposedly a demo coming soon, around the 26th. It's strictly online play but you can have huge battles I think up to 64 players, but I've been in 32 player servers and they're quite insane enough.

It's a surprisingly good blend of RTS and FPS, you can do the menial tasks of collecting stone and building, although there are npc workers, but if you start hitting a building in construction it will speed up the process. You can vote like an FPS, so if you don't like your commander you can impeach him/her ;)

The graphics are good too, if that's important. http://www.s2games.com/savage/screenshots/index.html

You can download / buy from the web site - it's only 256MB to DL too. Although it's still probably not a great idea for 56k users.

Sounds like an interesting idea for a game. Could be good if they've done it properly.
