Bet prrrraced :P
Why would they break the norm and bring a game out on a Tuesday? Seems odd and distinctly not the natural order of things!
Imagine all the children that will be skipping school, and adults skipping work... yeah. All one of them. The coder and creator of HL2. ;)
I was wondering about the odd release day. Why a Tuesday, seems like a really odd day of the week?
Mind you, it's the 22nd now, and you would have thought that they would know by now whether they were going to hit thier deadline.

See, they said that they would announce before it is going to ship so they don't got long left if they are going to annonce it...
There's like probably 2 guys left working on HL2 now...

lol.
If valve make a "gone gold" announcement soon (ie. today :P) then it could be out then, but bearing in mind that they have to ship copies around the world its looking increasingly unlikely

Has there been anything official yet?
Nothing that I've seen. Still silence from Valve...

Oh. It is official.
Not only have numerous sites got a quote from an e-mail saying they're aiming for a "holiday release" (i.e. near christmas). Gameplay have also changed date to an estimated 28th November making me actually believe this claim.
Oh well... waited 5 years for it (well 2 if you're like me and aint had HL1 for that long) and another few months aint gonna be too bad :p
Ah well, it was to be expected I guess :|
The fact that Valve has never ever made a release might have had some influence on my vote.
Plus if you notice there is zero pre-sale advertising point of sale, or adverts. I would expect a game which is as stunning as this to be getting a lot of attention for at least a month before the release.
It would be nice, but at least it gives me a bit more time to save up for a Cray super computer to play it on.

MMmmmm, The release date was obviously going to slip, First September/October is crap marketing compared to November/December.
This is a similar marketing desicion made by Ubi on Lo-Mac recently.
Second as Dash said there was'nt much advertising and steam obviously isn't ready.
Sorry to top an old post but it didn't seem worth starting a new thread. As you've probably heard Vivendi have announced delaying the HL2 release until early 2004, though it seems Valve are refusing to comment.

However according to this site Vivendi have not confirmed the delay;

Chuffin 'eck, you'd think communication would be better in todays technological world, but it just seems to allow the rumours to travel faster than the actual news
