How are the new Wireplay AAO ladders coming on?

Ok fellow AAO players, this is the post to read to see the developments on the new AAO ladders between [-SAT-] and Wireplay as they are formulated.

On Sun 22nd of Feb myself and Majors Pain & Satdx will drive to Leeds and meet with Rob Goodair (Breath), Matt Stringer and Marko Pickett (Dirtydog2k3). We will be discussing the right approach to the ladders and AAO community itself. Our intention is to make this fun, with a goal to reach in certain ladders, i.e. prizes to be won for the winning clan. Very soon you will see AAO added to the list of online games within the clan community. You will be able to click on the picture created and it will take you to a very small website with no other function but to bring to your attention about the coming ladders. It will not be a final representation of how the actual site will look.

PHP will be used to make the new site and at the moment all developers are working flat out on other projects so there will be a period of time where nothing seems to be happening, so please be patient.

One thing is for sure, the site will only, repeat only be up after all links and spelling checks have been completed. We will not be rushing out the ladders with out full checks and testing first.

Ok fellow Soldiers...here is an update on todays visit. Majors Pain & Satdx and myself drove to Leeds today to disscuss the future callaboration between [-SAT-] & Wireplay. We were given a guided tour around Wireplay's two locations and were witness to the power of the whole organistaion. I must say we came away very impressed. We met Marko, Rob, and Matt face to face and chatted over a beer in the local pub. We bounced ideas off each other and spoke about the way the AAO community should look and feel.

From the amount of traffic through Wireplays new AAO Servers 62.105.80.20 and 62.105.80.52 we can see that there are gamers out there who realise that the extremly low pings from these two servers mean excellant game play and at the end of the day that is what it is all about. Expect more servers coming on line in the near future, and even Official Honour Servers so you will be able to gain those valuable honour points for yourself. Myself and my two fellow Senior Admins will now go away and talk to other Senior members of Wireplay and start to get the ball rolling on making our new community a place to call home. It will be a place to hang out with like minded folk who love playing Americas Army.

The task ahead will become bigger and will require helpers as and when required. So if you feel you could help us then if you have not dropped me a line please do so and let me know you are available to assist. Shortly we will be requiring Administrators and Moderators. To that effect I will be shortly putting together a letter to anyone who has vollunteered for the postition of admin or moderator so watch this space.

I stand behind Col.Solo and Maj.Satdx and agree with what they have to say, but unlike other organisations we have a fantastic freindship and we are great communicators which adds to the fact we are sure to keep you all informed about any changes here in Wireplay with regards to AAO, when no one is kept in the dark we all sleep better at night knowing that the next time you log on your in for the gaming experince of your life :P

I am looking very much to running with Marko, Rob, Matt and the whole wireplay team alongside Solo and Satdx to make Americas army the best gaming community out there ! There is much to do and a lot of work to be done, but together as a team we can make this happen :)

update as of 7th of March......
Have completed the front end of the new Wireplay AAO site. I have created two designs and Maj.Pain is also hard at work on his version. Myself, Majors Pain & Satdx will be meeting on tues the 9th of March in the evening to discuss matters and swap more ideas. Shown pictures to Breath and Dirtydog have been met with joy..so stay tuned for more info. Just now need to send pics to dash to see if he can work with them.

Update as at 9 March....

Myself and my DCL's spent the night discussing the points system we would like to run for the new ladder system. It's way to early to give any information away at this stage but rest assured, clans that fail to turn up for matches will be sorry.

Have fully completed the new front end and have passed this on to DASH to do his magic on. (It looks sexy!)

Have made the forms for potential Administrator and Moderators to fill in. They will be going live over the next few days.

Update as of Fri 12 March...

After Dash has had a good look at the front end we have been working on this is the reply I recieved from him.

" I am afraid it's not really feasible to port into HTML. This is mainly because of drop shadows.
Having semi-transparent objects, such as a drop shadow won't work when you put it into a web document. This is a limitation of a lot of browsers".

Update as at 13 Mar. The new AAO Community is up and running thanks to DASH, less the ladder structure. Due to algorithims and maths it will take a little longer to produce the ladders.

[-CR-]John has been tasked with writing an idiots guide to IRC and it will be available to us very shortly. You will all be able to view it from the net!. Also Maj.Pain has now written the TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR THE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT OF ADMINISTRATOR STATUS WITHIN THE WIREPLAY AAO COMMUNITY. Just need it to be checked by Breath and Vamps for their approaval and these too will be sent out to all wanna be Administrators.

Update 18th March 2004

OK gentlemen the latest update for the rules of engagement for the administrator role.

After a lengthy chat with Vamp, the rules of engagement and server admin rules have been set and approved. Anyone now applying for this role will be sent this document to digitally sign. This clearly states what we at wireplay are expecting from all our admins.

I spoke to my Head Admin [CR]John last night and he informed me that the project he is currently working on with he "idoits Guide to IRC" is almost complete, when he sends it over we can go through it and this document will also be sent to all admin along with my documents.

I will be meetin with Col.Solo tonight to discuss further plans to propogate our servers to honour, or the options of renting honour servers. You will be notified of the out comes:)

Well after much detective work I have found verification that Europe does indeed have Official Honour servers running European Honour Servers (http://aaotracker.4players.de/serverlist.php?showonly=euroofficial) We will now endevour to get permission to run and host our own Wireplay Official Honour Servers!!:D

I'm now working on the differant maps for you all to view in our community. These will have arrows on showing you where the objectives are. Pretty good for clan team briefs should you wish to discuss tactics. Also working on pics of weapons for all to see the differance between US Army and Opfor.

Have managed to get hold of the email address of the CEO "Cheif Executive Officer" to SCI who makes Americas Army Operations and have emailed him a detailed plan to run European Official Servers. I hope to hear his answer some time this week as I have been told he is an extremely busy man. (Can't be more than me).

update as at 25th of March....

Myself and my DCL's have been discussing the points system we would like to use for the coming league ladders.....

Start points for all new teams is 100.

Win +3 points
Draw 0 points
Lose - 3 points
Failure to turn up for 1 match -4 points
Failure to turn up for 2 matches -10 points
Failure to turn up for 3 matches -20 points
Failure to turn up for 4 matches -40 points

Clan can have max of 14 days rest to be taken when ever. These 14 days rest are to be taken in a 3 month period then gets reset.

There will be 6 leagues...

4v4 Combat
4v4 Assault

6v6 Combat
6v6 Assault

8v8 Combat
8v8 Assault

A special league will be made up for special events with top prizes to win for the winner. Based on a knockout system.

As you can see we have decided to penalise the clans that do not turn up for matchs. After playing in TWL and WWGL for so long the we have found that the most frustrating part of the whole game is being let down by the other side. So in effect they will drop down the ladder system quicker for not turning up for a match, then they would do for loosing a match.

you loose 40 points for missing 4 games? is that 4 games in a row or? Cos sometime it can not be helped and you forget/ can not make a match.

There should also be a sf league with only SF maps being played

Dash has released the Beta ver of our new ladder. At the moment only two clans are actually in the ladder but you are more than welcome to add your clan to it. The testing period will be over a one month period so lets get some matches under way and see what bugs we can find. All points are null invoid as it is for tesing purposes only.

With the resignation of DASH this means that the ladders have been put on hold once more. Breath has kindly volunteered his services to pick up the pieces when he has time. So maybe we can get this ladder finaly off the ground within the coming months.

Unfortunatly the Wireplay AAO ladder is on hold for the short term future. Problems outside of our control have meant that the sheduled ladder has been cancelled until further notice. On behalf of my DCL's and Admin staff we are truely sorry for this inconvienience but we hope to bring this service online in the New Year at some point.
