Me and Jepposn can't find the server... Last time we were playing it was HELL laggy, anybody that know if the server is down or what? :confused:

I just checked the server list and WP is not there..
yup server id dead... someone give it a kiss of life i need my Freelancer fix

he says he will try and sort out the server tomorrow
Its taking longer to get the server back up this time as Pigwhistler usually reboots it. However he is in America on his honeymoon so im trying to arrange for someone else to do it.
What process does it take to reboot a server if only one man can do it? Can no one else do it?
I'm arranging for a person from our main office to goto the site and do it.

well its 22:33 GMT Forum clock is 6 mins slow ( i know I'm sad) and still no sign of the server *SIGH* I'm missing it sooo bad ( did say i was sad)

I think beside getting the server back, the WP-FL comunity needs a better box and good admins teams (beside instaling the incross Anticheat program).
I do not know whats the procedures that WP come to conclusions that the box should be changed/upgraded but I would like to know how/when?
about the admins I think that Dr.Zaius and the others (beside SK who left FL) should get back there admins access unless there is other probelms beside giving $$$.
first, there intention where good, Dr.Z wanted to make more action on the server, where most ppl got bored, and I do not think that the admins rules where clear about giving $$, so its not his mistake, its only he did not know about this rule!
specialy if Dr.Z did not have any admining expecriance before.
second, also money is needed for supporting the server tournaments, I was going to orgenize 3 v 3 tournaments but it all stoped since there is no admins to support it both with prizes {$$$} and there protection from cheaters.
I would like to request that the admins gets back and finiding more good members so WP-FL server would have good admins team who would lead the comunity, and this wont happen until Jabbah or any other Head/Comunity admins comes to the server for a while and find good players there who could be admins or simply chose them from the fourm.
I got many ideas how to find good admins but I am sure that WP Manegers know how to chose.
I think that the WP server could be one of FL best if it had better box (CPU=+2GH&1GB RAM) and 3 good admins.
I know that since all the flaming thats had been going on the forums makes us FL players reputation looks bad, and probably you say ppl should grow up,but the server should not be left with out very active admins who stay online for respectable amount of time.

I'll chase up the situation with the server in the morning, if people are interested in donating hardware to upgrade the current boxes, then thats not a problem.

I do not care if Admins come back or not, but 3 vs 3 fighting is a way of earn $.
whitchever side won the game worked hard for it.
giving out $ is an other matter. what is mean truely unearned $

Being a newbie around here I've no idea what spec the server is.
(what are they?)
Are you certain its the server that's not up to speed ?could it be the connection it has?
FL1 is a dual p3 800 with 1gig of ram, it is connected via a 100mb connection to the internet.

What are the server requirements for FL?
The server runs fine on the hardware.. i have a feeling that the O/S is to blame. Might have a blast at switching the server to 2003 instead of 2000. Shame theres no Linux version of Freelancer about (or is there? :E)
when its set to auto reset (not just FL, but the server it self).
I think once in every 24hr might fix alot of problems.

i dont think FL come in a linx version coz it a microsoft prog and linux is an operation system so microsoft wont help them too bad if to creat 1 windows of thos 2 operation systems it would be the best windows ever :D

Unless Jabbah has set something up to do this, otherwise there is no daiily auto reboot of that server . Though i dont why it is needed to reboot the server daily?
well as far as i know since its MS OS, which got alot of internal errors that cuase alot of probelms in the computer prossecing and OS behavior, rebooting simply reset the problems back to 0, and the count down to crash start all over again.
about the hardware, I think that CPU=800MH might be good for 10-15 players but more than that plus cheaters and lagging players it will get very heavy and can not handle the load..
but so far in 50% of the time the server is running well even if there is 25 players but before it crashed we had 3 nights full of lag + cheaters.
are you sure that the server does not need better CPU/Hardware?
about linux. I think this is the last time I chose to play a game that is not supporting linux, simple the needs for running a game unisng linux is alot less and the servers who run linux are alot relaiable.
plz instal anti cheat program on the server (do not remmeber the exact name but its somehting like "incross protection bot" )

The server is running Windows Server 2000 and so would not need to be rebooted much as a desktop os (2k pro/xp pro) (our other servers running 2k server are only ever rebooted after a Windows Update and they are ok the rest of the time). When the server is back up I will have a better idea as to what is causing the crashes and will take action accordingly with Pigwhistler (when her gets back from his honeymoon).
As for the server hardware, it does the job however it could do with updating and currently we dont have the resources to do that. Before anyone says "but you got new servers for Call of Duty and UT2k4", they are either donated (in the case of Call of Duty) or on loan (in the case of UT2k4, we have a dual Opteron on loan from AMD).
So if anyone has a P4 2.6 or above or its AMD equivelent and a couple of gigs of ram that they would like to donate to build a new server then send em over :E
The anti cheat stuff you need to harass Jabbah to install onto the server.

i think the main lag creator is the game creator (microsoft) this game is 1 big bug .
the lag in this game wont go away totaly even after a reset (it look like the game stor the lag and let it in when he want:S)
i think the server need for some time to have less players (not 10 or 15 but also not 32) and/if the server will be upldated to better hardware then put it back to 32 players
When the people in here are saying server rebooted every 24hrs they mean the FL sever not the whole machine.
I know this helps with server load ( FL server load) and whats more its a gaming requirement as wrecks and containers stay empty/gone untill the server is restarted.
That would be a hastle Jabbah job then :D

They said it was a Dual PIII 800 ,not single.
But I would imagine the memory bandwidth is getting hit hard with 2 PIII 800s running FL.
Btw no-one answered me as to the server h/w needs for FL:P
Win2k doesn't need rebooting daily (I leave mine running SETI for months without problems) ,but it seems FL does!:rolleyes:

The FL server app is very unstable - The server is reebooted several times a day by admins (I used to reboot it 2-3 times a day most days) when theres lag, since the admins left no-one rebooted it. The actual h/w was never on a regular reboot. Ioncross causes lag hence why it wasn't installed (Yes modders cause more lag)
The h/w crashed a few times recently but most of the lag is solved by rebooting the flserver file. It may benefit from better h/w but the server app is very dodgy. Thats all I know about it :/

The problem is the dual cpu, Freelancer doesn't support that set-up. Blame MS for that.

its just dreams that wont come true, MS made money more than they expected from this game.
go to www.lancersreactors.com check old Editing forum's posts or problems related to cheats, you will see how much ppl are forestrated of MS/DA, they simply do not support this game any more.
and if you say maybe FL2, well I think FL2 wont be any better,I say lets have fun with FL and let good ppl make gr8 mods that takes the game to experiances that MS/DA wont think about.
the ppl who make new mods work based on there love to the game and pure talent, if MS would fix anything it will be just to get more money.
I wont consider buying MS games anymore unless its for SP.
at the moment getting help from MS, would be like getting friendly with the nomads ;)
Ah even that u can cheat and make the nomads friendly but with M$ you can not :mad:

well i know its not what yas would have liked but i have a spare 1.7 amd processor sitting doing nothing anything to help with the server as i love playing there and if it helps to improve the server performance then your more than welcome to it but then ya gonna need to change the motherboard aint ya and ya will need to sort a heatsink out for it as i have none spare maybe someone else who cares about the server has a compatible heatsink to go with the processor and if yall so upset and down about the server being down then chip in with whatever ya can spare im not saying go out and buy **** to donate but it would be good to see fellow players pull together to keep the server up to scratch anyway thats all from me have a good day:P

What '1.7' AMD processor is it? XP1700? Palomin? Tbred?
I might have a spare HSF ,but really that's the easiest & cheapest part to sort out;)
Btw how was the server originally funded?
lets found out what the server needs and we will take from there.
Until Jabba get we will not know.:E
The only thing I have spare at the mo is a few cables, an old duron board and fan, my experience and many memories of past pc's so i dont think i will be able to give much....

my apologies for the delay in responce but this forum keeps logging me out when i try to reply to messages the processor is a 1700+ xp processor i dont need it or have any intentions off useing it as its too low for my next upgrade so your more than welcome to it if it helps the server to run better but i will only send it directly to jabbah and no-one else so as to aviod any misunderstandings off paranio that someone else is getting a free processor

the processor was mounted on a kt4 ultra motherboards its a good processor it has a couple sets off numbers on the waranty sticker maybe you can check the compatability for earlier motherboards by the seriel number

server is back up and has been for a few days now so were all the players gone who used to play there lol sometimes its just me in there and to think yall were concerned bout what was happpening and when it was gonna be back up and running i aint seen even half the players that i knew who played there before it crashed
GIK we are not contracted to play there. Im a little busy at the moment but hope to get online monday.
