I'm starting to get to work on the main NPCs from the books now.

Obviously we want to get as much detail in as possible, so im hoping we can create the characters with all the equipment they had in the books.

Please use this thread like the item blueprints thread - Post the name of the characters and all their equipment with its name and perhaps the suggested properties for it.

Note that these NPCS do not need a special item for eveyr slot, just a few unique items each will do.

Item Type: Mace

Item Name: Nallagurth (‘Death’s Proclaimer’) , The Mace of the Witchking

Item Properties: +5 enc (d8 crushing vs. Good).

Item Description:

Forged in Utumno by Sauron himself, Nallagurth was a gift from the Dark Lord to his most devote servant , the Witchking of Angmar.
This formidable mace has been crafted from black eog and is inlaid with veins of diamonds. It’s inset black tip is desecrated by some carved incantation in the Black Speech, thus giving rise to this evil weapon’s terrible power.

~Elrond's Vilya - The Ring of Air~

Item Type: Ring

Item Name: Vilya (The ring of Air, The Blue Ring, Ring of Sapphire)

Item Properties: Unsure, should be protective/creative as the elven rings were based on the elven protective and building/growth magics. Also a major charisma bonus would fit well.

Item Description:

Forged by Celebrimbor and the Mírdain of Eregion the three elven rings are the only rings of power untouched by the hand of Sauron. Hoping never to allow these rings to be found by the Shadow in the East the Elves only ever used them for growing, protection and building. So as not to draw the eye upon them. Originally this ring was worn by Gil-galad, however he passed it onto Elrond before he died.

Now this ring is all that maintains the Elven powers in Rivendell.

P.S. If this item is somthing that will be on his corpse if ever Elrond dies maybe ot should be lost at each login, it is a ring of power after all.

~Saruman's Ring - 'Ring of Angrenost'~

Item Type: Ring (plain band ring)

Item Name: Ring of Angrenost (Ring of Isengard)

Item Properties: +3 Charisma
+8 Bluff
+8 Intimidate
+8 Persuade
Cast - Charm Person - Once per day

Item Description: During the Third Age, Rhûn was visited by three Wizards; Saruman, Alatar and Pallando, and though Saruman returned into the west, the two Blue Wizards remained. Sauron himself journeyed into the eastward lands, in hiding from the White Council during the centuries known in the west as the Watchful Peace. What Saruman did there remains unknown. However after his return he changed. Soon he was building armies of goblins and wargs. Not long after he was no longer Saruman the White, but Saruman of Many Colours, Saruman the Ringmaker. And upon his finger he wore the ring of Angrenost. Mayhap he learnt the forging of rings of power from Sauron himself, that will never be known, but with the ring upon his finger the power of his voice was multiplied, and often were the unwary snared.

Item Type: Longswords (Elvish leaf shaped)

Item Name: Gurthdur and Gordur “Death of the Dark”, “Dread of the Dark”(Sindarin)
Elladan and Elrohirs sister swords

Item Properties: +3 enc (d8 slashing vs. trolls/olog-hai).

Item Description:

This finely crafted blade like it’s sister sword X, is forged from the finest mithril, chased with a bright gold inlay and has a pommel inset with opals as decoration.
Like it’s twin this sword has been used to great effect in the Rhudaur, as it's Troll populace has born testament to these weapons’ superior cutting ability.

~Sarumans Robes~

Item Type: Mage Robes (or somesuch)

Item Name: Vaimahelyanwë (Robe if the Rainbow)

Item Properties: Nothing definite but we were thinking of allowing the casting of 'blindness', 'confusion' and 'displacement' x number of times a day.

Item Description: On his change from leader of the White Council to Lieutenant of Sauron, Saruman abandoned the colour white. Instead he claimed to be of many colours, with the white having been but a blank canvas to overwrite. This change is represented in the myriad of rainbow colours in his robes, ever shimmering and reflecting the light light these robes can make the wearer harder to, or confuse the beholder as to their whereabouts. Less subtle than the powers of his rings, these robes still baffle and bemuse the unwary.

The robes would be best coloured with the 'Rainbow dye' as this would best fit their description in LOTR.

On the above, white may be a better colour, depends if we need him to still appear as the white, or as the many coloured taht gandalf sees him as in Fellowship of the Rings

Item Type: ******* sword/broad sword

Item Name: Gúthwinë “Battle Friend”, Éomer’s sword

Item Properties: +3 enc (d8 slashing vs. Orcs/Uruk-hai).

Item Description:

This majestic looking broadsword is wrought from fine Numenorean steel and was passed down to Éomer of the Eastfold by his father Éomund to celebrate his inception as the Third Marshall of the Riddermark.
On each end of the crosspiece green orbs of serpentine have been set and it’s home is a campaign-worn leather scabbard.
The orcs greatly fear the blade the Rohirrim call “Battle Friend”, as much of their foul black blood has been spilt on its account since the horse-lords victories on the Field of Celebrant.

~Saruman's Staff~

Item Name: Nimvandil

Item Type: Magic Staff

Item Properties: Bright Blue Light (20m) others - I don't know the NWN magic system well enough. However as the staff is what allows a Istari to channel their Maiar powers they should be quite somthing indeed.

Item Description: The white Istari staff of Saruman. The true history of this staff is unknown, when first the Istari entered Arda, each was bearing a staff. There are those who believe that this Valar blessed staff was wrought of Oiolairë wood by none other than Aule, but the truth will never been known. Oft times people have claimed that the powers of the Istari are bestowed upon them by their staff, but as none has ever lost their staff, this too is but a legend.

The true powers of this staff is unkown, whether they aid the bearer in tapping into their own abilities or have powers of their own is somthing few living know.

In truth the Istari are Maiar in mortal form, through their staff they draw upon their Maiar powers, if ever their staff was destroyed they would become little more than a mortal man.

Appearance:
Magic staff base:

Model Colour
Top: 6 1
Mid: 2 1
Btm: 2 1

Theoden's Armour - ~Armour of Eorl~

Item Name: Armour of Eorl

Item Type: Armour

Item Properties: Bonus to Charisma, Persuade, AC Bonus. Somthing along those lines. Maybe cast mind spell protection type spell once per day.

Item Description: The heirloom of the Kings of Rohan, this is the very armour Eorl wore on the field of Celebrant, on that fateful day when the Rohirrim rode to Gondor's rescue. Such is the respect the Rohirrim have for Eorl and his line that any wearing this armour are obeyed immediately.

Passed from King to King, the wearer of this armour will always live up to the courage of Eorl, standing and fighting where a lesser man might flee.

Theodred/Eomer's Armour ~Armour of the Riddermark Marshall~

Item Name: Armour of the Riddermark Marshall

Item Type: Armour

Item Properties: +2 Str, +2 Con, +4ac

Item Description: The forces of Rohan, in times of war, organise into great comapnies called Eodred. Each led by one of the Marshalls of the Riddermark. These men are leaders without par, proven men in combat who will fight to the very last, inspiring others by their deeds. Each Marshall wears the Armour of the Marshall, which is both a sign of Rank, and a banner in its own right, that the Rohirrim will rally to on the field of battle.

Heres a little mission for the Dwarf fans...

I'm making the three npc's - Gimli, Gloin and Dain II.

I want each NPC to carry 2 custom items. If you could come up with some blueprints, that would be great. In total, im looking for 6 custom items. They must include at least 1;

Heavy Armour, Axe Weapon (any size), Helmet.

Have fun :)

Dains Axe.

Item Name: Might of Azanulbizar

Item Type: Dwarven Waraxe

Item Properties: +4 Enh. +1d6 Divine vs Orcs. +1d8 Fire damage.

Description: During the Battle of Azanulbizar, The Great Warrior known as Dáin aided his Brethren in the fight against the Orcs of the Misty Mountains, turning the tide when he arrived with the Dwarves of the Iron Hills. The Orcish King Azog and Dáin fought one another on the battlefield, the Dwarf claiming Azogs life and wining fame and the admiration of his Brethren. This Axe serves as a reminder of his battle prowess to all those who would face the Mighty King of the Dwarves.

(Got bored, and tis shoddy.)

Being hobbit craaaaazy... any chance of having some items specific to hobbits... like Bullroarer Tooks armour.. or bracers...etc.

Could even have a shire quest down a rabbit hole to go looking for the helm of the Orc Golfimbul....you know it makes sense.

DM_Kev
01-12-2004, 16:20
We have Bulroarer's club :)

Think up some plans and write them down and I may add them in.

Ok... I have never done this before so if it is a total load of cobblers you better not take the piss..... oh ok you can then;)

Proposal for a shire Quest and a Hobbit specific item.

Quest Name: Down a Rabbit Hole
Quest Description: The Search for Golfimbuls Helm.
Given by: Hariodock the golfer.
Quest level: 4-6

Main portion of Dialogue:

Hariodock the golfer:
“Legend has it that Bullroarer Took lopped off the orc Golfimbul’s head, which then fell down a rabbit hole. Upon the head was a rather fine helm which is greatly sought after by golfing memorabilia collectors. After years of searching, I have located where this rabbit hole may have been and have had excavated, at graet cost, tunnels under the land. Unfortunately, some unusually oversize rats have taken a liking to our tunnels and my search teams refuse to enter them any more. I would like you to head in to the tunnels and find the helm for me. If you do this I promise a payment worthy of Bullroarer himself”.

Quest Battles: Lots of Rats (or Dire Rats), with maybe a King Rat in the chamber with the Helm.

Reward: Bullroarers Bracers
Properties: +2strength, +2 dexterity, white light 20m

Description: At the Battle of Greenfields, when Golfimbul attempted to invade the Shire, he was thwarted by the giant among hobbits Bullroarer Took. Bullroarer met the orc chieftain in battle himself and lopped off his head with a mighty blow. During the battle he wore these uniquely crafted bracers, which gave additional support and grater freedom to both his club hand and the hand he used to hold the reigns of his steed.

If there is even a glimmer of usable material in the above then please feel free to adjust everything else as you see fit.

Hmm, overall looks good. I'll bite :) (as soon as I get round to working on the shire areas content)

I'm going to water the quest level down a bit. Rats are more suited to levels 1/3 really so i'll make it a beginners quest.

The bracers are a little overpowered for the target characters too. I'd suggest making it +1 of each ability or +2 of just one. You can keep the light :P

Good stuff though.

woohoo... cool, and thanks.:D

Oh.. if I have a say.. bracers +1 of each ability please.

How the bloody hell is Greg going to fit down a rabbit hole??!!

Also, if there is a rabbit big enough, I don't want to meet it on a dark night!

P.S. Is the rabbit vorpal? :P

With its little pools and streams and idyllic woodlands theres no end of tinkly wee stuff that you could have goin on in the Shire. Handy primarily for lower level characters, but theres no reason there couldnt be something aimed at epic level hobbits. It could even tie in with some of the underworld ideas we have been discussing in another thread, magical and aesthetically appealing, but with an undertone of dark malice beneath rolling green hills...

I like the sound of that Fasin... be happy to contribute ideas when the time comes.:)
