on a middle earth server i played on about a year and a half ago there was no healing potions only healing kits and i think thar worked quite well as because of the weight you could not carry around ridiculas amouts of them like you can with healing potions also i tthink they are closser to the tolkenesque dream than drinking magic potions to restore your health. what does every one think?
i think to wipe out potions completely would be not good but to make them rare and important: to increase the need to use more and mostly healing kits and the heal skill is great i think...
i am also a great fan of this dying script where you can heal a dead char until his/her HP isnt under "-10" (dead chars gets -1 HP per round or so)

i like that one too but am loath to surgest anything that may increase the work load of the team working on utt2 to much
well there were healing potions of sorts in tolkien...
~ Miruvor - Cordial of Imladris ~
'This will be the death of the halflings, Gandalf,' said Boromir. 'It is useless to sit here until the snow goes over our heads. We must do something to save ourselves.'
'Give them this,' said Gandalf, searching in his pack and drawing out a leathern flask. 'Just a mouthful each - for all of us. It is very precious. It is miruvor, the cordial of Imladris. Elrond gave it to me at our parting. Pass it round!'
As soon as Frodo had swallowed a little of the warm and fragrant liquor he felt a new strength of heart, and the heavy drowsiness left his limbs. The others also revived and found fresh hope and vigour.
The reviving cordial made by the Elves of Imladris and called by them miruvor. A flask of the precious drink was given to Gandalf for the refreshment of the Company of the Ring during the southward journey, but seems to have been lost in his fall from the Bridge of Khazad-dûm.
As it stands now, UTT2 will support all the standard potions up to critical healing.
We may be doing away with the epic heals. We will never use the full heal potions.

It would in my opinion also be good if you can set a timer on healing potions (so you can't spam yourself up to full health) And that one could only use healing packs when you're not fighting. Because I've seen it happen on several occasions that people run away a little bit from the fight just so they can heal and then enter the fray again. I don't think it's very much RP in that and it would also make the fights more "real" and shorter than they are now. So a timer on the potions and healing packs when not fighting would make the fights more interesting and not just something you run head right into (dwarves excluded...:P)
Well that's that...

well as fasin described the healing potion it was a rare and miraculas potion not available in every other store and was'nt found in every cave.
another thing i think that would perhaps improve things is if all drinks had several uses like fasin desribed taking sips from the bottle so instead of downing a entire bottle of wine you could just take a sip also the same could work for healing potions instead of having strong potions you coulf just have bigger bottles with a greater amout in it witch would make people less likely to use them in battle as they would provoke to many attacks of oportunity to drink an entire bottle aslo can you imagine how ther bladders must have been near the end of the battle the amout of potions i've seen some people drink including myself.
but thats just what i reckon.
also all this rtalk gives be another idea for a new presige class (battle medic could have skills that give major bonuses to healing skill and perhaps the ability to craft healing packs what you reckon?
I think clerics serve this purpose. We'd only make a new class if we can think up a lot of distinct 'new' things for it. If you really want to have a specialised healer, just make a cleric tanked up on healing spells and skills. Even druids serve this purpose well too.
Another update - epic heals will be in, but they cannot be bought - they will only be found in high treasure containers as singles and quite a rare find. So they are a 'finders keepers' item.

well perhaps changing their name to somthing tokenesque would be interesting.
I think wizards could also fill the medic role, makes a good secondary role for them IMO. Frain is always loaded with med kits and once he has discharged all his spells he is prety much acting as a healer, works realy well once he is invisible.

There are scripts for single use non-stackable healing potions with wieght added.
Being a fighter type I'm not in favor of them, but they are out there in the forums and vault.
