hi there!

i'm asking myself if in utt2 we'll find some item as the pc scrying device again. as plans go, the server will be much more focussed on party-actions as it was before. i think there should be a way of finding other pcs more easily again.

personally i don't have that much time to come online. perhaps 4-10 hours a week. so i usually miss much of the social events going on in utt1. lately i start to feel a little "lonely" everytime i join in and find nobody.

the pc scrying device wasn't used very long. there were some problems ith it as i remember. there should be something like this tough. even if players are ment to stay in the cities in order to wait for fellow adventurers now, it'll be hard to find people. first because there are very many cities (good work!), second because the party might have left the city 30sec before you logged in. it could take hours to wait for a new bunch then...

I think one of the reasons it was dropped (bugs aside) where that people were abusing the fact that it let you find people - not to party up, but to find people to attack, get in the way of. I know that I always made myself not show on the list for this reason alone.

as a general rule of thumb the more tolkienesque your character is, the way he looks, the way you play him, even something as simple as a middle earth style name (which a lot of players STILL seem unable to manage which frankly amazes me) the more likely people are to be willing to party up with you :) There are exceptions of course, sometimes great players simply shine through such superficial negative factors.

Thats my opinion anyway -- im sometimes put off by 'inappropriate' characters and sometimes i might be denying myself a good game, but its the risk i take to avoid 'high fantasy' style players.

Not saying that applies to you of course dsan, i dont think ive met any of your characters, its just a general comment.

Shutting up now :P

There are no plans to use scrying devices in utt2. Through experience, its more trouble than its worth.

oh that reminds me Fasin, do you happen to know of a place one can find Haradrim names?

There were none that i can recall mentioned in tolkien... Id recomend having a look at some Iron Crown Enterprises (ICE)Middle Earth stuff. They will certainly have published a Harad supplement and that will have some ideas in i would imagine. Ypu can usually find a PDF of most of their stuff for download (not that i advocate that sort of thing, oh deary me no) but their popularity suggests that the'll be around.

Most of the ICE stuff is readily available, in fact that much so it may even be freeware, but I wouldn't like to swear to that. I won't post any links but can pass them on for this kinda character research use.

Actually with the Haradrim most arabic names would work, either that or give Westernesse names an arabic twist.

well actually i wasn't talking about players refusing to play along, i was more worried about just FINDING nobody.

of course, there's still the option to send tells to other players, but if there's no known name in the player list (as i said i don't show up on the server very often...) this is just so poor rp that i never try this.

if you knew where people are, you easily could meet them in order to rp a strangers' first meeting.

even with my little english, i always try to rp such events fasin (my char's name is delin, lvl 19 cleric/dwarven defender).

but nevermind, i see the problem of hostile pc encounters. i didn't think of this, beacause i only had one single pvp conflict since i joined. a possible solution to this could be creating one single zone in each city where pvp i not possible.

concerning the ICE-products. i still have some of those here, i used to play rolemaster and merp alot long time ago. i'll see if i find some harad names.

there is no poor RP in using the tell channel to arrange a meeting between two players, as long as you dont pretend the two characters are talking to each other, just talk to the guy behind the character, hear if he wanna meet up ect.
If you are worried about not being the same level or similar then you can just log out and back in, cuz when choosing your character you can have a look on the player list which tells you who is online and what level they are...very useful.
The arranged meeting can be between two old friends or between two strangers who meet up in an Inn by coincidence...thats completely up to you two to decide...just be sure you agree first

sorry no harad name's found. my "gorgoroth" and my "the lords of me II" sourcebook is missing and i never had a harad sourcebook.

i think arab name's wouldn't fit that well, regarding for example the name Mūmakil (the oliphaunts) or the Ūsakani (one harad tribe i think). my advice: Invent an own name and add some "ū". :-)

see you

My advice.... dont worry about it.. if it sounds Haradrimish to you and isnt obviously the sort of name taken by another race.. go with it. :D
