In my opinion, this is too harsh. The increased death penalty is bad enough. Not getting any experience worth mentioning makes it impossible to move away from the minimum xp for your level without repeatedly doing the same far-too-easy quests... You can spend half a day killing things, then one death wipes it all out (back on 1000 xp for the third time now :( ).
The xp was reduced for a good reason, however it was reduced further than desired. Come next reset/update (Sat 11th GMT) it should be better. There was a server shout to sat DM's would be rewardinf more xp to make up for this, but obviously not everyone was being followed by a DM.

I think..............
They should leave the EXP as is, very low.
But take away exp loss from ress, only gold. And add camping, camping adds to RPing, I want surprise, you didnt have it. Everything you can to do to keep people from leveling will add RP to your serever.
ehh..?? leave exp as it is??? from 0-2 exp/monster, after few first lvl“s you would have to kill thousands and thousands of monsters to gain lvl and thats pretty damn too much, it would just cause some people to exp more and find the "best farming ground" and repeat that endlessly which is very lame to say.
Low exp and higher difficulty is all good but lets not take it too far.
Universal xp has now gone up a little, but IT IS lower than the original setting we had.
It is possible to setup a camp - use the campfires and tent kits in your bags :)
Campfires are disposable, but new ones can be bought at tailors stores.

I thought the xp awards on the lowest setting were fine, I played for several hours.. not even thinking about xp gain, and at the end I'd made some progress, so I was happy.
I think some people are too focused on the xp gain in UTT2, and for me that is one thing UTT2 was supposed to fix. Seeing some players reaching up to as much as level 8 in one day emphasised to me that the first xp setting was way way too high and a disadvantage to the roleplayers.
I'd like to see players slowing down a little, not running everywhere and being patient enough for real epic development.
Keep xp low, maybe not the lowest level, as it seems a large (6+) party does feel it a little too much, but I don't want to be gaining 10-15 xp for killing something that you can kill in one hit and which can barely hit you. Something this weak I'd be happy gaining no xp for.
Now then.
First i can say i been playing the new server, done 5 lvls! and its great. There is more atmosphere in the areas, the whole team of DMs and PCT have obviously put a great deal of work into UT2 and it shows. They have put in great effort to create a unique and deep Middle Earth setting. Really good stuff. My party and I tend to play RP so we walk most places, and it is only when walking around with no haste you can appreciate the new areas. I think everyone will agree with me.
Second I say i am getting really peeved at people talking only of levels and XP. I am sick of it. This is an RP server and there is a huge playerbase of RPers. Why are some people focussed only on gaining levels and XP ;(
IMO you could keep the XP the same, It would not change my enjoyment of the world. I know xp levels have been raised again which will keep people happier but its the ME world to interact in that brings me here - not to lvl up my char as fast as poss.
I am sure that if our DMs catch players 'farming' or anything like this they will be punished.
When i started my char there was a notice in the halls i read, it said at the bottom - this is an RP server, if your here to power lvl etc this is not the server for you. And we can all see whos shot up the lvls when we log on. grrrrrr, lets RP, not XP.
I'm all for RP rather than xp, but it was too low last night. When in a large party highest lvl 5 lowest lvl 2, you do feel it. We were in an area that was tough but playable. Howeevr at lvl5 i died twice -2000xp. Even with DM bonuses i ended up with less xp than i logged on with. Not a problem but a bit depressing. I'm not looking for that xp back, but it would be nice to feel you are getting somewhere with your characetr afetr 5 hours play.
The new setting for xp is just about right. It had to be raised a bit because parties of 3+ chars were getting 0 for just about anything, including creatures which were pretty dangerous to them.
I would like a more party friendly xp script, but in the meantime, this setting will do.
It was too low for most, the new setting is a good compromise ;)

Erm.. too low?
It was difficult for me starting right from 0xp with the xp slider as it was on 1.
However, it was more fun than i have had with my old characters beating the crap out of the oppenents... All the fine things my character could do with the assortments of things dropped.
XP was NOT hard to get, even in a party.
Gold was NOT hard to get, even in a party.
I finished after about 6 hours of playing rather better off than i started. Died numerous times, but who doesnt at level one. Now i have a cautious respect of the lands around my 'home'.
To those who complained about the xp drop - understand we are here for RP primarily, xp is just a nice extra that allows us to grow stronger and open up better chances to RP. Try some other RP servers and check their xp and death systems.

I have researched other servers, and with our current setting, we are offering a lot less xp. :)
If you hop on and play now, you should find the setting is just right for the time being.
Havent had a chance to play much yet due to real life.. but what few times I have played I have enjoyed the new server.
Just one thing.. The Bree Smithy doesnt seem to store bolts. If they are available in Bree form someone else then please dont tell me, I will rp in game. If they are not available in bree.. then it would be nice if they were:)
I dont know how recently you have played, but the shop has since been checked over and should have infinite supplies.
Thanks Kev, my bad. I should have checked first... plenty of bolts. :emb:

I think the xp change is perfect now. Even if this is a roleplay server there must be a balance between RP and XP. Both make the experience enjoyable, and without either one I find the game boring.
i believe that the dye merchant in dol guldur may not be working. Someone asked me why and i told him to post on the forums.

Moria got some problems that needs fixing soon. One of them is that there is no book in chamber of record for glorfindel quest (might be a bug or it might be because we forgot to ask glorfindel about it) And the other is that you cant get out to lorien from durins bridge (no door or what you call it) So after some hours bitter fighting we come on ourselves bookless and nowhere to go. Might be worth fixing ;) goodnight.
Its also possible that someone beat you to the book (it wasnt me) but there was more than one party in moria at the same time as you I believe. :)

Is there only one book per reset or does it just take time to respawn?
In effect as of next reset...
- New Creatures;
The Shadow Eaten
Pallid Dwarves
The Nwalyacarcane "Teeth Of Torment"
Deep Trolls
Deep Orcs
Axoraucar "Bone Demons"
Ondorani "Stone that wanders"
Ulunde "Abominations"
Sarquindi "Cannibal Ogres"
Durin's Bane (Balrog of Moria)
- Midgewater Marsh south now connects to Great East Raod
- Bugged merchant in dol guldur fixed
- Added Dimril dale - now allows Moria to be exited to this area or entered via this area.
- CR of Greater orc range dropped by 1 point
- Added Field Of Celebrant and Gladden Fields.
- Work begun on "The Deep Dark Of Middle Earth"
The Deep Dark is going to be a massive underworld below the surface of the world. Such a place was referred to many times by Tolkien, but was never fully ellaborated on or explained. All we know is that it was inhabited by "nameless beings".
This is where our imagination comes in. This underdark will house many epic quests and will be what middle earth dungeoneering is all about. All underground regions will be linked, so after a long journey, one could end up under moria from, say, erebor.
Needless to say, the Deep Dark is a dangerous place and not to be travelled alone...
Enjoy the game :)
that sounds very sweet :D
Just a quick question - Bioware have just released a new NWN patch - when will the server go up to this?
(Word of advice don't patch till the server does, I did and now can't log on - stupid me) :P  :furious:
Im happy with the server setup at the moment. 1.65 has bugger all of interest to us in it, so we will likely stick with 1.64
I think it would be a good idea to throw on 1.65. I realize that it might not be that interesting for you but there are people playing on other servers besides this one.
Were going off topic here, This thread is for updates only.

there are people on versions that have to wait ages for 1.65 to be released for them i know a guy who has a plish version who was of for about a month when we went to 1.64. if some one wants to play on other severs let them make a copy of the game and patch that one.
This will be the last post on patches, then we will keep the topic to MODULE updates.
The server uses NWN linux, and that is always released late. I'll have it patched when its available.

What's been added with the current update - i noticed some new mines near iron hills?
Most recent updates:
- Longbeard has fixed the login/death bug for us!
- Silverdelve is in! An intriguing search for a lost dwarven ring of power. Can it be found? Quest dialouges and programming to come soon.
- Several fixes following reports
Enjoy the game.
In effect next reset:
- Some trial DM quest props
- New Ninque Niblin by DM Olorin!
- Disclaimer added to start.
Theres a lot of unfinished stuff which i've hidden away for now. I decided to get a version with the disclaimer up asap. The verdict regarding Stormplay seems to be EULA and Tolkien Estate. Though we definately have no problems with the EULA, Im quietly confident that the Tolkien estate will leave us be. I feel they may have intervened as a result of the EULA action, whereby money was being 'made' as one of the ways of getting a password, donation or not.
Enjoy the game.
