View Full Version : Defunct Quest
I wanted to help that littel old dwarven lady in Erebor, really I did. So I packed up my gear and I headed downtunnel. Thats when things started to get funny. I had to step away from the computer (or be dispatched by my loving wife), to return to find my character dead. We'll so I decided to do some dishes and a few otehr chores. When I returned to play, I had been respawned in the halls of waiting. Noting that I had the quest items in my inventory, I decided to go back. So I go back, find out she only wants to send me down there again, I get frustrated and log out.
When I re-log, poof I am dead again. Really weird. The best part is when I go back later with a friend, we can't complete the quest even with the ring, pick, letter, and the bug's shell.
did you find all 3 missing miners or just the dead ones?
I've tested this quest myself and it works.
You probably got moved to the halls by a DM. If players are lying about dead for ages with no sign of anyone coming for them, we will shift them to the halls and apply the xp fine.
I noticed yesterday that therewas a player standing around in the burial mound whilst the Gabilgunud wasted time beating on the missing dwarf miner who was invulnerable to attack anyway.
If you were this player, you obviously didnt speak to the miner, which is an important part of the quest. Also, its prefered you take on bosses in their areas as opposed to luring them to another area.

i've tried that miners quest twice i've been told the first time i missed somthing and that is why i could not complete it so i re did it and checked everywhere in the mine and stil missed somthing i think the quest needs to be altered to give a clue as to what i was missing because i had done all i was asked to do in the quest.
what was missing is 3 miners. Having your quest items already in your inventory seem to confuse Mrs Rocksmiter however. She gives you the quest again even if you have found her missing (living) son in the burial mound, and no reward for finding him. This happened to me when i died in the first attempt, and returned later to try again...
We also had trouble with that quest... I think. Found all three, returned straight-away to the old lady and she had forgot she sent us! Oh... (minor spoiler ahead)... any use for that carapace? No one seemed to want to do anything with it.
Let me try to remember. I found two dead miner's bodies and their stuff. I also found one live one and talked to him. That makes three.
Yes, the first time around it was me, DM Kev, couldn't help it. Tried to sneak past the boss monster since his rating was impossible. No way of knowing what was in the next area till you get there. Well then the wife needed me and there you have it.
A note about CR's -
The nwn cr system is very innacurate on most occasions. Firstly, it only represents a 'one on one' situation and secondly, it hardly takes into account things like special abilities or attacks.
If your in a party, the challenge is somewhat made easier. Anyway. The boss in this quest is just about killable if your character is well prepared.
Point taken. I did try to combat him, was getting badly beaten and hoped to flee. I certainly prefer party play, specially with some of the nice players here. That was not one of the times where I knew anyone on and decided to go check out a new area. As it turns out I died- and still am curious to see how it turns out. Fodder for future exploration.
Oh and thanks for your kindly explanation.
Okay - there's definitely somthing wrong with this quest - I can now say it don't work (I know how its meant to go so . . .).
We just did this quest - quite carefully so it would work:-
The one character spoke to Helka, picked up the items from the two skeletons, picked up the Carapace, spoke to Roli. The other three of us only hit things, didn't interact with anything else at all.
We got transported out, having been told by Roli to speak to his mother for a reward - and what does she do? She asks us to help her once more. There seems to be a glitch in the quest script where helping Roli doesn't update it for when you speak to Helka. In the past we haven't done this quest very well, this time we've been very very careful - I can't see that we did anythign wrong in he quest.
same here ghost... same exact bug on that quest.
I did that quest with my own party yesterday, and had the same problem
ghost81 - I don't think that's the problem with it, after speaking with Roli we got a journal entry saying he'd left the tomb for home. Still, good ol' Helka seemed to be worrying nevertheless - perhaps the lad got lost somewhere...
