View Full Version : Food, glorious food!
I plan to add food to the gameworld.
BUT
This will not be anything life changing like 'you must eat to stay alive!'
All I want is food to be used as a rp prop.
What im looking for is ideas on types of food;
It would be nice if we could have a strong variety, with a little info on each one.

I would like to see beef on the server. Whether it is jerky or raw meat i would like to see many different types of beef.
Maybe even some different types of fish from the different seas in Middle Earth.
I would also like to see some trail rations for the adventuring parties.
Thanks

~ Cram ~
The travelling rations of the northern Men
A biscuit-like substance made by the Men of Lake-town and Dale, and shared by them with the Dwarves of Erebor. It was said to be nutritious, and was used as sustenance on long journeys, as for example by Bilbo and the Dwarves on the last stage of their quest.
It was made from tightly pressed flour or meal (indeed, the name cram comes from an Elvish word meaning 'press'). Basic cram like this was a flavourless, uninspiring food, but sometimes milk or honey would be added to make it a little more palatable.

~ Lembas ~
The waybread of the Elves
The waybread of the Elves, Lembas, traditionally takes the form of very thin cakes, made of a meal baked light brown on the outside, and inside was the colour of cream. It can be mistaken for Cram by the unfamiliar eye but it is more strengthening than any food made by Men, and it is more pleasant than Cram, by all accounts. Some even declare that it is more delicious than the Honey Cakes of the Beornings, and that is high praise indeed. The cakes will keep sweet for many many days, if they are unbroken and left in their leaf-wrappings. One will keep a traveller on his feet for a day of long labour, even if he be one of the tall Men of Minas Tirith.
The secret of its making was originally held by Melian of Doriath, but this secret was passed on to Galadriel and possibly others. As with all things Elf-made, Lembas is slightly magical and intrinsically "wholesome", as such evil things cannot stomach Lembas, to them it tastes vile and poisonous...

~ Beorning Honey Cakes ~
Many folk have a fondness for indulgence, the Hobbits are famous for it, but few Hobbits have known the sweet-toothed joy of the bakeries of the Beornings in the north of Rhovanion. The honey-cakes of the Beornings are considered divine fare among the Men of the North and the Dwarves of Erebor, for the Beornings are counted among the best bakers of breads and sweet things in those latitudes.
So perilous are these times however, and so dearly do the Beorning covet them, they are none too willing to deal out their cakes to travellers in these days.
It would be nice if raw meat were added, i think it would be possible to make the meat "activate" upon a fire making it "roast" (take the "meat" and give a new item "roast meat") or if you want to make it more fun perhaps add a few options like "burned meat" "slightly cooked meat" ect.
The idea with food is a good one, after all then Pishnak always talk about food, if she could actually eat something it would be nice :D

Just a thought --- I dont know whether Longbeard will want to stab my eyes out with his screwdriver for this but --- how difficult would it be to include food (some food items) into his crafting system.
Some character of a culinary bent might want to make something out of several ingredients for example. Or say they kill a wild boar, suddenly they have the raw materials for other things. Perhaps a Cooking Pot might be a useful RP item.. Uninspiring ingredients go in something nutritious comes out. Even of the Cookpot is effectively a means of disposing of the food items. The meat goes into the pot (and disappears) the party RP eating the stew around the campfire.
*Sees Longbeard coming with bristlin' eyebrows and purple veins throbbin' in his temples and runs away quick smart...* :P
I have a love / hate relationship with chickens. I love to hate them. Can we have chickens you whack, cook, and eat?
Seriously, seasoning, herbs, healing herbs and such could be found on plants and bushes and the like. Another use for search or the like?

*considers eating through the server's monster list* Naaah.
I'd like to see skinable animals such as deer, rabbit etc and....mushrooms. What would also be cool is if you eat something that might not be agreeable to your body..i.e poisonous...a status effect occurs.
Oh...and I'd like to see some mead offered in the taverns.
Mmm mead. mmm fermented honey...
One of my characters has caught a madness known as "fishing". Poles and fish... or at least fish I can buy somewhere to RP with?
I'd love to introduce fishing.
I had a blast on an old, old game called Ultima VIII 'pagan' or something. You could go fishing for a while, catch some weird and wonderful stuff and then flog it off to the highest bidder :)
we could get crabs... er ill rephrase that... the CEP has crabs in it...
Hows about the "Belfalas Blueshell", a crab of gigantic proportions and a rare delicacy :P
Yeah the Ultima series had a bunch of fishing bits tied into it-
Could tie a bunch of random events to fishing- catch nothing (90% event)- catch fish (5% event) - special event (5%)
- Special event list
Lose pole to large fish
Bury hook in thumb
Sunburn
Mosquitoes
Old Boot
Wagon Wheel
... oh wait that's all the stuff that happened to me the last time I went fishing in real life
Hmmm, when divided like that, actually catching a fish would be a special event :p
I suppose someone isn't going to fish in waters where no fish could live, so a higher percentage of catching something might be interesting.
Perhaps introduce the golum fishing method, giving 1% chance of catching anything. :P
very nice idea...
but please dont let me find the one ring hehe
is there gollum anywhere in UTT2??
Nope, but there have been discussions amongst the team of adding him as a DM controlled char only.
i think this is a good idea. but give him high stealth-skills or even "hips".
that's that i already suggested and i'd like to see him as dm controlled char would be very nice...
actually wtong thread for that sorry...
have to eat something now hehe
We hope to have the very occasional ring based quest - this would be where we use Golum.
sounds really really great
Me wan more pies. Me wan tiga pie, an bear pie, an pig pie. Me like pies.
Hmmm I like the idea of food.
Maybe joints of man and elf flesh for the orcs and ologs.
I'd certainly love to be able to eat spitroast chicken and roast boar, venison, beef etc and wash it down with the already available wonderful range of beers to which I'm partial after a long day slaying elves and hobbits.:naughty:

stop the press i have a great idea
at the moment when someone runs low on food they normaly just slaghter an entire herd of deer or bison.
so they tend to carry huge quanaties of raw and some cooked meet in the back packs for long periods with out the meat ever getting diseased.
perhaps after one rest raw and cocked meat should become diseased.
and introduce longer lasting trail rations and waybread

also deer and bison should both contain more ediable meat
another idea is orcs should't need to cook there meat in order to eat it
I'll have you know that some orcs are very particular about what they eat. It all depends... hmm. On the nature of their upbringing, I guess. :)
