I've noticed with the new xp parties are becoming way too large because everyone gets good xp despite the number of players. I've seen the party I'm in grow to ten several times, and with buffs and lag intesive areas I can barely tell what is going on in combat. Also there hasn't been a reset in a few days and I think that is adding lag also. Right now it is 7am in the UK, and I was with 2 other players, and we were the only ones on the server. 3 or 4 times I and another player lagged out even though we were only in town. My computer is kinda old but I have a cable modem. I have never actually lagged out before, just had all sorts of computer trouble. Could just be no reset but I dunno.

Large parties do indeed cause lag and perhaps rule should be that no larger parties than 6 should be made.
Also your distance to server might be cause of some lag despite having cable.
Also i think you are right that it would be good to reset the server at least every other day or introduce a script that clears all crap lying around every now and then, my buddy told me of script like this on another server and he said it worked well.

I personally can´t remember experiencing any lag in utt2 except in arena team fights, lucky me ;)

i also expierienced lag-problems together with morez for the first time on the new server.

in my opinion, this has not much to do with the party-size, as there were just moez and i partying. i don't think a 6 pc per party maximum rule would be a good idea. the seventh to join would not be pleased at all, if he is a newbie he would probably not understand. there allready is a recommondation of playing in groups of 3-6, i think this is enough

Server has not been reset for 3861 minutes :P

Just done it.

I think a party size rule will be needed, say 6 players. More if a DM is running something special.

but how shall this rule be enforced?

well it will be easy to enforce just set it so a party bigger than 6 recives no exp.

but i think it would hurt the atmospere of the game

it shouldnt have to be enforced in mature server like this =)

I think no-more than 6 would be better as a strongly advised guideline - the problem with it as a hard and fast rule is what if there are only 6 people of around your level on when you log on - their all in a party, but you can't join them as it would make seven, and therefore you're stuck.

OK the 6 is the ideal max but one more or less wont hurt. :)

Basically the DMs will judge it on the occasion. If theres say, 12 players, the group can always from two parties.

DMs can check for party sizes by using their 'party wands'. We just use it on a player and it tells us of all the people in the party, and which area each of those people is in :)

i like the idea of dms advising the party that sounds like a far more sensible idea

another way to reduce lag is to clean up the area your in...yup just like elementery school. The more "remains" bags and fires and such on the ground, the mor ethe emgine has to work. even if it is a fire beetle belly if you killed it...pick it up and AT LEAST put it in one of the persistant conatiners barrels/chests/crates/etc...) if a trash container is unavailable.

That also lends itself to the inclusion of more trash containers(pokes the designers lightly)...in shops and near merchents that are to poor to own a shop...at the gate to the city(make it look like a wishing well or fountain if ya want to). I have also seen servers that had rats that ran around "eating" things left on the ground and NPCs that went aroung picking up things on the ground and putting them in containers as well....

I have seen anti litter activity help lessen lag. just remember...only you can prevent forest fires!

This is quite the dilemma. Party size does need to be reduced but how do you do it with out hurting other people feelings?

DM events always attract a large group because frankly everyone wants to participate. Unless there is more than one DM on so the people can be split up, it would be quite the challange for a single DM to pick and choose who can and cannot participate.

I have noticed in a few of the event there was a wide level range.
8th-17th level. Perhaps making the event level based could weed out a few.

Non-DM events would be alot easier to control, once the party reaches 8 or so they just split up into two groups. Which was mentioned here already.

Preventing people from the "getting left out feeling" is the key here.

I am sure you guys are already aware of this but there still is a problem with the death bug.
I had to log Dove from a battle on Tofalos Island after my automatic backup kicked off and slowed my machine. When I logged again I was in the Halls. I checked with the party I was travelling with and there was no body on the floor or any indication that I had been killed. So I duly asked for a DM, unfortunately none around...well you guys have a life also.
So rather than take the penalty I logged off for the night and posted this.
Please note this is not a gripe or complaint, just letting you guys know.

Cheers
