Many people have asked me recently where to find rules about character creation, multiclassing etc. in the forums, and i noticed i couldnt find them either, so i would suggest a sticky here about all custom rules, restrictions etc.

If i am just dumb enough not to notice them just shoot me :rolling: :camper:

I raise my hand on that :)

The information is here but it can be hard to find! I certanly was having troubles finding information for example the hide in plain sight skill for shadowdancers... And many others, still haven´t found everything. I think a big sticky with all the information about custom things in this server would be great! Like what is different from "normal".

Thats probably not a bad idea, but for now here is the link to the thread on character restrictions:

I've had a quick look for the details of changes on things like HiPS and can't find it at the moment, but I do know its no longer an automatucally gained feat, but instead can be gained by anyone who reaches the prerequisites.

And I know the next question is going to be what are the pre-requisites - the answer is I don't know, I have them written down somewhere but of course can't find them right now.

i think to qualify for HIPS you need to have 30 in both hide and move silently. but dont quote me in that :P

There's a dex pre-requisite as well, but again I can't remember it.

Dont know if this is the right place to post this, but here goes...
Is there any way to change the details in the "character description" text box displayed when we examine characters in game, after the character has been created? On my part, i only discovered it was possible to type our own text in here AFTER i had created the main characters i play.
Any advice/information would be greatly appreciated. :)

i think if it is possible dms should re write some of the descriptions because some people put historys not descriptions

I've been speaking to a number of server admins for safe ways of 'editing' character names and descriptions.

I plan to allow this soon, provided that the descriptions are suitable and wont remove the suspense of roleplay encounters. It can spoil things a bit if players can know everything about someone by just reading a description of them - its nice to learn via roleplay.

As for names. I plan to introduce titling in the near future. So someone could become 'sir' or Lord or Lady, etc.

HIPS

i found the HIPS entry only by using the search option but not how are the exactly changes of the shadowdancer......
for HIPS look here:

HIPS:

Basically, its an open feat - any character who meets the requirements, may take it. You don't have to be a shadow dancer. You could be a pure rogue and get it, if you meet the requirements.

Requirments are very high to reflect the ability to simply dissapear from plain view.

The only effect on the shadow dancer is that this is no longer a 'shadow dancer' feat and that it is no longer gained by a level 1 shadow dancer.

shouldnt there be a hide and move silently bonus on the shadowdancer instead of his best feat?

DM_Kev
28-01-2005, 17:31
I don't see why there should be. Anyone is allowed this feat if they meet the requirements.

For stealthy types, this should be very easy.

Hmm... so quietly slipped into conversation that people never commented on that.. Personally I find that very interesting/exciting :-) Nice idea, Kev.

Yeah, titles.... some idiot inadvertently already has one... well two.

"Ar" as in Ar-Pharazon the Golden means absolute ruler or some such. What I get for skimping on preliminary research.

that brings up a good question will the title me sir lord and such or middle earth type names.

i must admit i'd prefer sir and such but perhaps eves could have their tityles in elvish and such for dwarfs

Gloin

I imagine different factions would use different titles. I don't see a distinguished Olog-hai being referred to as "Sir". Not sure how exactly that will work - perhaps NPCs in faction areas will use your titles when talking to you... for titles that add things to your name, perhaps DM assistance and special feats would have to be required..

if there will be titles they should discussed with the certain player what the name of the title should be and if he wants to have one.

actually i doesnt matter if there wont be titles so you just can RP like:
"For you i am still Sir 'famousPlayerName'"

Are we looking for separate Gondorian and Rohirrim titles?

DM_Olórin
29-01-2005, 13:13
they may well differ... Gondoriand seem more classic medieval european, sir, knight, lord, steward, all that.

Rohirrim titles included Thane, Holdwine, Marshall, and all things Anglo-Saxon/Viking... Ill have a scat around. I know I have a lot of Dwavish stuff but best to bear in mind that titles in Dwarvish would only be used between Dwarves as their tongue was not often spoken in front of non Dwarves...

English-----------------------------Khuzdul
King---------------------------------Thane
Queen------------------------------Athane
Ruler (High Lord/Lady)-------------Ezbad
Lord---------------------------------Uzbad
Lady---------------------------------Azbad
Lesser Lord------------------------Izbad

Damn i ran out of time on the last one.... Feel free to delete it...

Gondorians and Rohirrim ranks and titles may well differ... Gondorians seem more classic medieval European, while the Rohirrim were more Anglo-Saxon/Viking. Some of the following could work as honorary titles though some are held by named NPCs at the time of the War of the Ring:

Steward (pfft), all that. Call yourself a King, you aint even got a beard.

Captain of Gondor - common as muck these were (sorry Jade). :)

Knight of Gondor - also lets not forget the Knights of Dol Amroth, but there would have been noble knights aplenty from all of Gondors provinces and principalities, each would differ in livery somewhat.

Lord - any respectful address to one of percieved rank official or otherwise.

Warden or Warder - Generally anyone in a position of responsibility, Warden of the White Tower, W. of the Keys (a high office in Minas Tirith), W. of the Houses of Healing, etc but not necessarily a military title.

Guard of the Tower of Gondor - The Elite Guard of Minas Tirith consisted of at least three companies of the fighting Men of Gondor. The soldiers of the Guard, whose uniforms were black emblazoned with silver, were among the most respected of the Men of Gondor.
____________________________________________________

Rohirrim titles included:
Marshal of the Mark - The highest military title of the Rohirrim - One of (normally) three commanders responsible for mustering and leading the warriors of Rohan in time of war.

Second Marshal of the Riddermark - One of the three military leaders of the Rohirrim - By tradition, the Riders of Rohan were led by three marshals named, in descending order of seniority, the First, Second and Third Marshals. In the early years of Théoden's reign, he had taken the role of First Marshal himself, but in the years of his decline there was effectively no Rider in this post. The next rank, that of Second Marshal, was held by Théoden's son Théodred, whose command was based at Helm's Deep. Théodred's men were defeated by Saruman's forces at the First Battle of the Fords of Isen, in which Théodred himself was slain. After that time, the traditional ranks were no longer strictly adhered to. Théodred's post as Second Marshal was effectively filled by Elfhelm, though he was never given the official title. After the War of the Ring, the new King Éomer completely revised the old tradition of the three marshals, and instead gave Elfhelm the title of Marshal of the East-mark.

Third Marshal of the Riddermark - Marshal of the cavalry of Rohan - The third of the three Marshals who commanded the forces of Rohan. Like the Second Marshal, the Third Marshal had no fixed duties, and his role changed according to the needs of his King. At the time of the War of the Ring, the Third Marshal was none other than Éomer son of Éomund, whose base of operations was at Aldburg in the Folde.

Captain - Grimbold of Westfold, Háma, Captian of the King's Guard, etc.

Thain - In "Forth Rode the King" Theoden was said to have ridden with Thain and Captain. Captains are pretty easy to imagine. But what are Thains. In Dwarvish, Thane means King but the word originally comes from Anglo-Saxon and Tolkien being who he was we can assume he meant it literally. So a Thain is a man ranking above an ordinary freeman and below a noble in Rohan especially one who gave military serve in exchange for land. Probably equivalent to a non-ranking officer or veteran, who would be trusted in council and in war. Erkenbrand, Lord of the Westfold of Rohan, was a friend and cohort of the King but had no title such as Captian. He would have counted as a Thane in my opinion. Indeed Merry was granted the title "Sword-thain, Esquire of Rohan of the household of Meduseld"

Esquire - a title bestowed on Merry. Presumably an honourific lower than Thane but above commoner. An assistant to a Lord or Knight as were the medieval squires perhaps.

Holdwine - there are several possible interpretations, of which the most likely seems to be 'faithful friend' - from Old English hold, 'faithful, loyal' and wine, 'friend'. This was what Theoden affectionately dubbed Merry in LOTR.

To non Dwarves they would bestow an honorary title: "Dwarf-friend" or somesuch

I did not know where to place this thread, but this is the closest one that fits.

Would it be possible to start a threat for each character class on UTT2?
I thought of this after starting a new and unfamiliar character class.
A thread on each would probably save the same questions being asked time and time again. It would also mean that information can be shared on different classes and easily found, instead of trawling through all the posts looking at specific individual entries.

Changes that effect particular classes would also be easily posted.

I have a mountain of questions I would like to ask, specifically for my Mage in UTT2, but I feel that I should look about a little longer before I post a question that has probably been answered in a previous post somewhere.

Just a thought

What about a posting area this is considered in game. One that could be used for "hey I have Elronds underwear. Selling em to the highest bidder" or "Khaev your dead meat if i see you in Tharbad again" type posts from one PC to another/others?
