I have grown tired of the constant arguments, cheating, moans, policing and the "Players vs DMs" frame of mind ive seen.
I have decided that everyone and I mean everyone needs to have a look at the real reason they are here. The server is meant to be a Roleplay server, but more than that, its meant to be fun.
I have been at MERP UK since almost the beginning, and I have seen the changes that have been made, improving the world and the community, but I have also seen some things which have not been to my liking.
We have spent a long time trying to make a place that players enjoy without feeling the need to go outside the rules, rules which have been made to ensure the spirit of the community is kept to what the server is about, Fun Roleplay. I have said this so many times that Im sure its ignored everytime I saw it, but this is a roleplay server, and if you have no intention of roleplaying to the best of your ability (granted, first time roleplay can be a little poor, but most of the time people get better, and sometimes there are days when you dont feel like roleplaying at all, ive had them.) then you should find a place more suited to your taste. Do not take this as me telling you that you shouldnt be here, there are many great roleplayers on MERP, but sadly, as always it is the minority who spoil it for the rest. You may think that as a player, with the new system being harder, that you must do anything within your power to get to the higher levels, because the experience is lower than before, but this isnt the case, if you look at things from a roleplay perspective you will realise that a person fighting the same things over and over will not gain any new knowledge or skill over that enemy after a certain point, so in fairness, no experience would be given at all, but that is not the case. This is a relaxed server, a server intended for the fun of the player, rather than a race to level 40.
Characters. This is the main point of Roleplay. When you create a character you have to have an idea in your head of how to roleplay that character. Sadly, for some people this isnt the case, they just make a character they think it will be easiest to reach high levels with. I implore you, please, do not be tempted to do so, I enjoy roleplay more than the fighting quite a lot of the time, but when I see people with characters that have no intention of roleplaying a character, it devalues everything that the other players have done.
My last point is the increase in cheating and arguing I have seen. There is no need to cheat, I ask you now, why do you bother? what will you gain from it? nothing. What is the point of playing a game if you only intend to cheat to get ahead. It shows no skill and no desire to play the game properly, as was intended by the creators of the game. Also, when a player is found to be cheating, and are given a warning, I have seen quite a few instances where they have kicked up a fuss and just made it hard for the DMs to do what they see as right, it got to the point a few weeks ago where even Kev had almost given up hope with the server, so I ask you now, please, just dont do it, Im hoping that with this I have struck a cord not only with the people that have been doing this, but also with the people that havent, for them to open their eyes and take notice of the things going on around them. We want you to have fun and enjoy roleplaying, else this server will just dissolve and become abandoned, and then we would have ruined yet another good server.
I thank you for your time and apologise for any misunderstanding I may have caused, it isnt my intention to push away players, but rather show them that the things that have been happening are having a detrimental affect on the server and I seek to turn it around and make it a better place for everyone to play on.
