I would like to hear from everyone how they RP quests that they have done over and over again.

Example:

The other night we were with a group of people and one person got a quest that everyone else in the party has done at least a dozen times. Everyone RPed if differently. One of my more common companions RPed it as if he had never been there, even though he was 17th level and had been there at least 100 times. I just RPed it as "oh they asked me to do that before too". But it contridicted what my friend was saying. Bottom line is it didnt jive too well.

I would like to hear from DM and players on how they think situations like this should be handled.

I don't want to get into specific quests due to the "spoiler" part of it.

*drunken'* [iin RL]
i exactly know whyt you mean...
i am really drunken but i am going to play NOW :)
...what I mean is that of course i know teh situation of 'telling' to each other how to act (if there si siome char or player who is the first time in that dungeon... )
whatever laugh at me...
i willl pozd tomorrow wghen i sobered up...

the only way to gain levels is to reead one quest over and over again...
we players should find a solution

P.S.: i am really sorry for taht post matés for my drunken master tecxnix but i wrote too much to cancel this....

One would suppose thats why many people have created different chars or do not visit the server as often.

Creating a different char makes some of the lower quests new again.

I decided to get vampire bit the one night- which was sorta fun. Also toyed with the idea of becoming evil as a result. However, my real life alignment doesn't really allow for being evil- I know its just pretend.
Sometimes I just pretend like I don't have a clue. Sometimes I just run ahead to stir things up. Sometimes I take my clothes offf to go bathe, well i leave my undies on.

As of late I see if my mates are on and if they are I play for a while- if not I go do something else.

i try to pretend its a different but similar quest, most times this works but others just remain silent and play along with a slight suspension of disbelief.

I generally play it as somthing new, at least if anyone there has not done the quest before. Although you and your character know what is coming, warning someone who hasn't done it before of somthing can spoil the tension/fun for them.

This is one reason I tend to avoid doing ther same quests within a server reset - not that anyone else can see my journal, but I feel its more honest to play that I haven't done the quest before if my journal is empty.

I agree with that, Lolinux, I'd be very reluctant to do the same quest again during one server reset. Surely at low and mid levels there are alternatives enough, and you can convince the group to do something else.

I also try not to initiate the same quests myself over server resets. When someone else asks me to join on a quest I already completed as main character, I try to make up a somewhat vague story about the plot. For instance, if an orc chieftain has to be slain, I'd say I scouted out some Orc activity in the past in that region and took a look at it. Goblins and most other creatures are quite common and can select a new chief, etc.

When re-entering an area previously explored, and some members of the group don't know it yet, I believe it is best to fade a bit to the background or give the impression you don't know it all that well... That way the other characters can get the feeling of discovering something new themself.

Yesterday the four of us were in the crypt of Morek. While I have been there before as another character, and I'm fairly sure two other teammates had been there as well sometime in the past, they all roleplayed the riddles as if they were discovered for the first time. It is much nicer that way just in case one or two of us didn't know the area :)

i was out with morez yesterday. how could he could even find the button that turns on his computer.? if he really played after posting this, i wonder why there is no morez-post such as "watch out, there are two balrogs down in moria now!!!" or sth. similar...
