I haven't voted cos I can prety much do any day - however I work shifts so it varies week to week.

Argon Balros

i think the market would need at least half a day and i think the only day where most of us have that much time spare is sunday

Baltar

I too think it would be a welcome addition if not just to attract all/most of the players in the world and actually get to meet/see/interact/roleplay.

I am true chaos with days and time so have not voted as all are fine by me too.

Voted Sunday:D hope there's a food stall:lips:

Argon Balros

perhaps we should start to discuss where the market should be held.

Luinil

The obvious place would be Tharbad, it is easy to access. In my oppinion Bree isn't a good place to do it, having a market there where a lot of mean types might come isn't exactly how I see Bree atleast. Potentially there is Esgaroth but I could imagine some people having trouble finding it, namely the lower levels who haven't been venturing much yet.

Argon Balros
20-02-2005, 15:22
perhaps the market should be set up on th road between tharbad and bree

ghost81
20-02-2005, 15:51
Or maybe the road just South of Tharbad.

Argon Balros
20-02-2005, 18:56
what just out side dunland?

ghost81
20-02-2005, 19:49
As compared to 'What evil players attending a market right next to a Dunedai Ranger camp?'.

Arguably south of Tharbad is more 'neutral' than the Tharbad to Bree road which would be regularly patrolled by the Dunedain Rangers.

DM_Kev

It will be in Tharbad, as this is already the most common place to find others.

Argon Balros
21-02-2005, 01:52
will there be space in tharbad? if not perhaps the farmland west of tharbad might work

I like the idea if a market it will be a great way to interact with other players of both factions.
My only concern is the dialog, its hard to keep track of the conversation in the greyflood when its full nevermind a market full of traders.
can you amagine trying to haggle with ten other characters all talking at the same time :rolling:

Argon Balros
21-02-2005, 23:30
the answer is simple all haggling should be done in whispers

Luinil
22-02-2005, 11:38
I sure aint going to whisper while I haggle, just roll the chatting window up the window with what is said so you can see more of it and it is no trouble.

Argon Balros
22-02-2005, 12:01
there is no reason to talk any louder than whisper whilst standing just over the counter.

one of the main things i dislike in the arena is trying to have a conversation with so many others going on and most people keep quite when whatching it.

ghost81
22-02-2005, 12:39
Also it doesn't matter how much you extend your talk window, if you've got three or four traders, each with one or more customers, its very easy to lsoe what is being said, especially as some people type and read quicker than others, not to mention the fact that English isn't everyone's first language here, and that can slow down things for them, and parts of conversation go missing.

I for one would think people would want to be fairly quiet about what items they are buying, and how much gold they have - you don't want the pickpockets frequenting the market to know hat your a good mark do you?

The reason why the Silversword store would be in Bree is that it wouldn't be selling anything to evil characters. At least not the discount items.

I'm wondering how one could tell whether someone is evil or not, though. Sadly NWN doesn't have the Know Alignment spell -which by the way would be rude to cast on a knowing customer- and so there is no real way of knowing who is and who isn't evil... unless you know those characters personally and can tell by their actions.

The same goes for evil shopkeepers, of course. The only way to make sure you sell items to good or evil characters only is to make use of faction areas, I believe.

And why not after all? As you said yourself in a previous post, players who frequent Bree don't have enough gold to even cover the crafting costs of an item... so I think it is rather useless to put up a store there.

Bree doesn't count as a good faction area, does it? If so, this post is completely useless of course, and Kev can delete it :emb:

Hey Danae..do you remeber that item on LOTR San Diego..it was a detect evil device. It would be easy enought to make one for detect good as well. I thought it was rather fun. Hugh used it to dig up all the evil characters hiding in with the good and coerce them in to serving him or risk exposure. Would sort of add a neat element to the game. However I can see blatant abuse of such an item would be easy and would really ruin some of the masquerades that we have going on. In fact scrap the above though. we don't need an item like that.

Danae
22-02-2005, 15:34
Yes, I remember that item, but it was meant to be used by paladins only. In D&D, paladins have a class ability like that, which was being simulated by the item. Too bad rogues like Hugh could abuse ( :p ) it as well with their UMD... that should at least be scripted out :)

ok shall we start to discuss a few guide lines for market etiquete and how long it should last and what time it should start,

my first idea for a guide line as i previously stated is most talking should be done in whispers.

and i think if voting continues to go in favor of sunday it should start at 5pm till about 8pm gmt

Guyror
22-02-2005, 15:45
Money is money, Jonalin has no qualms in selling to anyone. But discounts may be available to some people and not others.

SNarfel
22-02-2005, 16:58
Personnaly, I think it should not be possible to tell an evil(or good) character by "artifical" means". It adds a lot to the rp for me to not know straight away.

I dont see why this should be a major problem regarding selling stuff. If you know the alignment of someone all good and well.

If you dont, then make a role played character judgment just like you would in real life, and unlike the real world you dont need to tipy toe about being politcaly correct or fair. You dont like the look of some one.. charge em more, you fancey the customer.. give em a discount ;)

Argon... . I am quite flexible on time, 5pm start sounds good.. 3hrs though? maybe to wide a window.

Whispers?.. why?.... A market place should be noisy and it should be difficult to hear the person your listening to unless you pay attention!!! I say we try talk first and then if it dont work we reconsider.

Argon Balros

so looks like its sunday?

I will add some props for this event when my computer is sorted. Had a motherboard blow out. Got a new one installed but the graphics card is not working right either. Hopefully I will be back on the MERP machine in a few days :)

However - there is NOTHING to stop you all from running a Market in Tharbad every sunday from now. Just congregate in the Market area and flog your wares there :)

Argon Balros
25-02-2005, 15:41
so every one ok for a 5pm start

Avalyn

Argon Balros
