View Full Version : In Fighting
The strangest thing did happen. While helping re educate the elves in northern Mirkwood. A group of us saw them all fighting amongst themselves. It was a strange sight to see, but most amusing.
I do not know if a previous 'confusion' might have set all this off. But does it need addressing?
Oh, and I believe the beornings had an upper hand of the elves everytime.
I think this is an age old Bioware faction bug. Once confusion hsa been cast the respawning creatures 'remember' their factions and war with these factions, also when they respawn they are of their original faction, but with any inbetween effects on faction are in place until the next server reset. Not sure if much can be done about this.
Is this the same reason that causes my panther companion sometimes to attack party members? It is most annoying (for them he he he), kind of makes me hesitant about calling the companion.
It could be, have any of them used an area effect weapon or spell? I've seen that happen before, someone has thrown one of the grenade type weapons, the familiar is caught in the blast and has turned around and killed them.
The fireballing of your own familiar, especially if it is the panter, has resulted in some nasty repurcussions. I can remember on a few occassions having to run away from my own insane familiar.
Then after being eaten alive, I realised that I could always of unsummoned it. That was the last time I will ever use the panther as a familiar.
No, in my case I definetly did not use an area effect spell or item, however on one occasion the party memeber attacked was a sorceror, it is possible that he used an area effect spell... but unlikely.
However, on another occasion when my panther attacked a party memeber, it had been affected by a dung beatles daze effect, could this have caused it to turn on friendly forces?
I'm just curious as to why this happens, not having any degree of effect on my fun (although if someone ends up dead coz of this and I cant res them I could be in for some grief;) ). Wont stop me from using it if I deem it necessery to the role play.... and as mentioned, I do try and stay alert and unsummon it or call it back to me if I spot anything untoward. Still if sh** does happen...My excuse... "Hey its an animal, in the thick of the fight it can get confused!!":E

One of the possible actions taken by anyone/anything affected by confuision effects is to attack the nearest person/hing, even if it is a party member/master/summoner.
Thanks Wyrm..
I think thats what has been happening.

Btw that reminds me; If your in a party with an Olog Hai, dont get too close during a fight.
Ologs have a feat which gives them a massive strength bonus, but makes them confused during the process :P Doesn't last long though.
actually wanted to comment on that very olog feat, I believe the bonus you get from it is the same a lvl 15 barb get from his barb rage, except he avoids the confusion.
Sorry I didnt know where to put this question so decided here rather than start a new thread.
Any guidance on how soon Shire quests will be in place and for what level range.
Just that Clone and I have created a couple of new characters and we can try retarding thier advancment to check out the Shire quests if they are coming on line soon enough. :)
Plenty of Shire quests will be going into one of the next updates. As I understand it, they'll be aimed at a low-ish level range and will contain a higher proportion of non-combat stuff than usual. Though I could be wrong, of course -- good ol' Lorien is looking at these. :)

are high lvl characters welcome to try the shire missions.
Argon , if they are errands and such like I dont see them being available to higher levels, my understanidng has been that the shire quests were always meant for low levels.
If this is correct, I still see no reason why a high level character couldnt wonder about the shire with a low level friend just enjoying the beuty and serenity of the Shire while the low level goes about his business. I think the XP gain for high levels would be negligable so surely wouldnt be power gaming or anything like that. I suspect other players with high level characters will be interested in seeing what the quests are also.
Just my thoughts:)
The Shire quests I was writing were all non-combat and very much aimed at low levels.
However once I'ev a few tings sorted in the good ol' Real Life I will have a look to see if it owuld be possible to add slightly higher level quests to the Shire - if this is agreeable to Kev.
Also I do have some ideas for events based around the shire that would work for any levels - but again this will be in the future.
The quests are non-combat, the main reason for this is the high number of placeables in the Shire. The pathfinding creatures would need would be impossible in teh Shire as it stands now, and I feel its nice to have an area of the world with predominantly non-combat quests.

just on the topic of the shire...my gods man! ii just visited it that other day and it is absolutely beautiful! it is *the* most lush, and totaly "right" (for lack of a better word) shire i have ever seen in a video game. well done and hats of to you Lorien.
As I've said before a lot of credit for the shire must go to Olorin for the final appearance and look of the place.
Its the work of DMs Lorien and Olorin. I generally gave guidelines for building it and said yes, no and ooh'arr when I saw bits of it :)

im adding areas for parts of the shire that may well "lend" themselves to moderate level questing with some healthy danger thrown in. Its up to Kev at the end of the day.
Im trying to do the whole of the east road from Bree to the Sea :)
