View Full Version : Our position on using teamspeak ingame

We do encourage contact with other members of the community through programs like Teamspeak (a voice chat program). The dev team often use it to talk amongst themselves. We are happy for you to use the Wireplay teamspeak service or one of your own.

However, I would like to make it very clear that chatting to party members on teamspeak is NOT an excuse to stop roleplaying your character in terms of speech. This has been a problem in the past. People try to further this by saying that all party members are friends so dont feel the need to roleplay - sorry, that wont work either. I know of two players who happen to play from the same room and manage to roleplay perfectly well despite being within direct speaking distance!

To put our position simply:

- You are welcome to talk about the game via teamspeak as it can be advantageous to co-ordinate roleplay stories or events.
E.G. "I will drop the item, you run off with it". Though there is nothing to stop you typing important instructions via tell.

- Anything game specific about actions or character thoughts must be conveyed ingame. E.G: rather than just saying on teamspeak "lets check for spies", actually make your character say it aswell.

I know players doing this will Roleplay when they meet people they are not on teamspeak with, BUT, whilst you talk to this player, you are probably still co-ordinating your actions via teamspeak. The player/s you are dealing with may feel that you are very quiet and not really interested in whats going on, which wont reflect well on you or your ability to build up contacts. I know many players do avoid others who dont seem to be fully participating.

So please, use teamspeak in game with care. Teamspeak is good, but make sure its not detracting from the object of the game. DMs will interpret largely mute parties as not roleplaying at all, which with persistence, can result in deletion.

Thankyou for your co-operation.
