Hello again!
Well having taken a needed break for a month or two, thought I would stick my head back in. I’m sorry to say I don’t think I will be playing much anymore here on MERPUK, or on NWN any more. I will pop back in to play from time to time for an odd blast but I think the time has come for me to move on.
I have a lot of good memories playing here, but times have changed and it had got to the point where I wasn’t enjoying roleplaying online any more. Due to circumstances outside of MERPs control, the world has become a bastion for rules and constant changes being made to plug up loop holes and game mechanics to cope with minority spoiling it for the majority.
Because of this, lthough truer to middle earth, the changes to mechanics never sat well with me, sure not authentic to actual ‘middle earth’ before but that never once crossed my mind while playing, my suspension of belief would carry that and my primary motive was to enjoy the company with others playing, or at times just to plod along at my own pace solo when the mood took it. I didn’t care if another character type was 5 times more powerful than mine, I chose to make what I made to enjoy playing.
I think what I am trying to say is I enjoyed playing for the sake of playing, and not worrying if I was breaking rules all the time, or what would happen if I logged on one day to find everything I was used to in mechanics had changed. When I came back from work I found myself having to psych myself up to play, and often would end with a mentally exhausting play session. Certainly enjoyable for a while, worrying more about rules and character, but in the end not a relaxing time for me which is why I game.
I think Kev and the whole MERP team should be commended for what has been created here, and my own play style preference is no reflection of just how good the MERP mod is.
I’ll come back to IRC and hang around still, but Jade will be staying in the white city in the main from now on.
