Hi. I don't think the player's manual mentions this specifically but if the experience penalty on respawning crosses the lower limit requirement for my character's current level, will she drop a level down or will her current level be preserved?

I know this sounds against the general spirit of RP'ing but as I can't play very much, I can't usually find "friends" or players with similar playing styles to play with. And if I have to explore alone, I try to risk-stratify to obviously avoid dying needlessly.

Thanks! :)

To thebest of my knowledge you can not loose a level when respawing - In fact I know you can't as most of my characters would be a lot lower level if you could.

Aye, I am sure I have lost xp which would have crossed the level threshold... but didnt de-level. Also I am sure this question has been answered by the Dev Team somewhere in the forums and they said thier is no delevling on losing xp:)

Unless, of course, you are "carrying yer next level-up" with you (your char has enough xp, but you dont level it), so that it doesnt impede the flow of your current quest; i think your char could theoretically at least lose your level then, if your char died.

I believe that if you haven't levelled then yes the xp will go below that needed to level. For example (and I'm doing this low level to keep it simple) lets imagain you'er in the South Downs at level 1. In a fight you kill a goblin which takes your xp up to 1004 - enough to maek level 2, however another goblin kills you immediatly - so there is no way you've had time to level. When you respawn I think the system will read you as level 1 and hit you for 200xp - so down to 804xp. However if you had levelled it would have read you as level 2 - would have tried to take off 400xp, but it wouldn't take the xp below 1000xp.

I don't think there is a way around this - the xp loss cutoff is based on yhe actual level on your character sheet- which until you go through the physical act of levelling up - will allow it to take you back below the next level requirement.

Cheers ghost81 ; i thought it may be so, and Guyror ; i appreciate the kind and considerate offer but may just pass on that one, thanks all the same matey mate *looks for guyrors secret corner to ensnare it just in case* . I dont do it all the time ; but sometimes a convenient break just cant be found, and its bloody annoying when some toons "hang back" with no IC explanation whilst the rest of the party take hits from the next group of enemies, only to hear the "i feel stronger!" in the distance, as you're getting yer last rezz scroll out of your backpack. Aye.

Authoritative answer:

You lose 200xp per current character level, but your XP can't fall below the minimum XP boundary for that level. If you could, in theory, level up, then your "current char level" is still the lower one, and you would lose the level-up if you died.

You also lose half your gold, up to a maximum of 100000.

It'd be possible to change this so that you don't lose possible level-ups, but I doubt it's worth it. :) I think it's a nice touch to be knocked back :P
