After some discussion on the Dev team, the grapple was made available to all characters, not only rogues. However, there were some complaints that it is now too easy to use -- even fighters in heavy plate had little trouble.
The grapple script has now been modified in the following way:
- Everyone can throw a grapple -- no more "you are not skilled enough to use the grapple".
- To use the grapple successfully, a character has to be nimble enough. If there is a lack of basic hand-eye coordination, the grapple will never secure, and may have some regrettable side effects on the user (at this stage be warned -- it could kill level 1 wizards who are on full health... Use it wisely.)
- Even is a character is nimble enough, their movement may be restricted, thus preventing them from securing the grapple. The same effects as above may result.
- Characters will need quick thinking to actually climb up a secured grapple's rope. If they fail to notice a foothold give way or the grapple come lose, they will fail the climb and possibly harm themselves. Should they slip while climbing and fall, they will take damage proportional to the total character weight (not just inventory -- inventory *and* character weight).
Still, those who are adept at rogue-like skills and are not hindered in their movement will find little challenge in using grapples effectively.
Edit: Oh.. just in case someone still doesn't know what the grapple does... It allows characters to climb steep slopes or walls they are facing.
Enjoy. :)
