A group of players from a party on the server tonight brought to my attention that there was far too much ooc talk in the party that spoilt their enjoyment of the evening.

This post is not here to name names and point the finger at particular people. I'd just like to make a point on the issue of ooc and its appropriate use.

OOC only needs to be used when absoloutely necessary, such as you being away from the computer or to let party members know that you are relogging for whatever (appropriate) reason.

Do not use OOC to state your opinion on trivial matters. In this incident, there was far too much trivial ooc. I quote from the reporting players, "wow, great xp!". There were plenty of other similar pointless ooc talks too.

If you want to discuss game mechanics with other players, use a chatroom please. If you have ooc that applies to one player, use tells.

Again, this is an area that requires common sense. Ask yourself "Does the party need to know this?". If they dont, keep quiet and stick to roleplaying. Remember, the actions you take do reflect on the enjoyment of the other players, so please be considerate when in a party.

In instances of gross ooc banter, we do take action, but im happy to wave this one and hope people get the message. If I continue to get complaints from players, I will just have to begin handing out temp bans, and I dont want to do that.

Enjoy the game :)

I've partied with non-native English speakers and i know that OOC speak is often their way of quickly communicating their intent to all, and equally with native English speakers when they wish to perhaps surreptitiously express their opinions to 1)their fellow party members and 2) the admin so that all may hear.
Undoubtedly, some players still perhaps dont quite "get" the RP aspect, even though they demonstrate improvement as they develop new characters, but i would remind us all that (where a large party or gathering is concerned), it *is*, under the current scripting system, sometimes difficult to promote a particular point of view by simple virtue of the fact that so many toons are talking that it becomes difficult to keep track of what *one* toon is doing.
*cough* isengard earlier today

The point being that, to any particular player, not necessarily possessing a twirly moustache, reeking of bon-bons and having drunk an inordinate amount of Stella Artois, "wow great xp" may have a meaning widely disparate to our (English-as-a-main-language) interpretation.
Just a thought.
peace :)
