Well, Air Ace is coming along fine. This week mainly has been involved with the art pipeline for generating buildings.
Buildings in air ace are basically created exactly the same way as Quake style levels. So any engine you see using Quake engine tech (including recently Call of Duty) we can create buildings very similar in style.
This means that essentially the whole process kind of boils down to getting some good reference material and then having at it with a Quake style editor to create the buildings themselves.
My architectural background kind of semi-helps here. But basically the whole process is just a long drawn out task of making the basic features then fleshing it all out.
Anyway, I'm happy with the process now, but we are missing some textures. So I've arranged for a few tecture CD's, mainly of southern english villages and french villages. Those should be here within a week or so.
Other than that, I'm experimenting with foliage and other such things, while we wait for the new terrain code (wait till you see a sattelite image with real elevation data using these buildings!!!).
Anyway, the ubiquitous image awaits.. this is a shot of me lining up a shot on an enemy spotter plane just taking off from a remote base...
