I've been wondering just what it is to be a DM. I think everyone here agrees that the DMs do an outstanding job, but maybe there are more players (than me) who might be interested in seeing a little insight of just what it looks like "behind the scenes" of MERPUK.

I know also that DMing will be a time-consuming job, but just wondered if any DMs might be willing and able (in terms of not wanting to give too much away) to keep some kind of diary as their "typical" session (or sessions :) ). It could also include the building/scripting/testing side of things.

I've been impressed by the writing ability (and humour!) the DM posts, particularly the story type posts, and I'm sure this would be an enjoyable, and informative, read for all players. It might also give an appreciation of just how much hard work goes into making a game a great as this one...

No problem if you feel you can't, for whatever reason, but just a suggestion. (Maybe something for the website?)

Hmm... nowt wrong with that, why not give it a go.

Dear Diary,

Today I woke up, caught up with what had happened on IRC in my absence and checked the forums. I was slightly intrigued to find someone suggest a public DM diary, so I decided to post my entries to you, dear Diary, to the forums. Hope you don't mind too much. :)

Time to sort some breakfast, and then do something about which I can sensibly write.

- Aule.

Pretty much the same as DM_Aule, generally we try and be aware of what’s going on in the game world, and constantly try to think of ways to improve the players experience (which naturally gives us a great buzz also). Part of our role is also to guide new players who are new to the rp experience. Finally we constantly review our own involvement and handling of, events, situations etc. to see if anything could have been better, for future reference.

I think I speak for all of us when I say that foremost in our mind is to give our players the best experience possible and build a true sense of community.

*hasnt DM'ed in ages, partly due to illness and other problems and partly to lack of time, he will soon though.*

Today I woke up....and it was my birthday...went downstairs, drunk some orange juice, looking for a painkiller to supress this hangover...no luck, so I go back upstairs, head into the dining room and turn on the computer to try and escape the pain, try to play nwn, but it crashes, lose my temper, so go out with my dad and brother, try to organise my BBQ later and then wrote this...

...TO BE CONTINUED...

*dramatic music*

wasnt that exciting? no...didnt think so.
