WCN - Wireplay Community News - Info

Welcome to the WCN forum.

WCN is a part of Wireplay working to bring the community all manner of news. It is hoped that our work informs, entertains and humours the community, bringing more life into it and improving Wireplay as a whole.

All of our news and other features will be presented on the Wireplay homepage. A new news system will be created at some point, which will allow us to show pictures rather than linking them. In the meantime we will have to link images. Planned features so far are:

- General Wireplay news
- Gaming news
- Wireplay gaming community news (e.g CS:S news, UO News)
- Competition news (E.g. WP CS:S cup 2005)
- Stat information (e.g HL stats top 10)
- Investigative articles
- Interviews
- Questionaires
- Memorable moments
- Humor/Oddities
- Cartoons/Short Comic Strips
- Images

We are always open to new ideas. Anybody is welcome to submit anything they would like to see published. It doesn't have to be serious; anything you think people would find interesting, amusing or helpful, please email it to kev_balmer@hotmail.com

We do ask that any submitted material is (if appropriate) checked for spelling and grammar and also:

- That images are clean; no pornographic or abusive, insulting images.

- That any written work contains no strong swear words. Occasional, mild swear words are permitted, but they should be few and far between. Theres plenty of words to use without swearing every sentence.

- The name/alias of the writer/submitter is given

- The work does not advertise other communities not owned by Wireplay.

Your support is very important to keep WCN alive. Please use the forum to talk about anything and everything WCN and news related. We will often pick up on any interesting posts in WCN.

This might seem a daft question, but why is this a seperate thing from the wireplay website itself?

Surely the Wireplay front page should be the portal for all the above?

Because of the (hopefully) large amount of content we generate, it will not all fit into the main page.

WCN will use Wireplay webspace and it will be easy to find. Leading articles will most likely appear on the home page.

Some WCN content will be used on the wp site, however the focus of WCN is to allow a more broader communtiy based news system and greater interaction from the community.

Still don't understand why what will end up being a front end for the WCN, can't be a frontend for the wireplay site.

Seems to me like you'll just be sending people all over the place...

I know if wireplay was a place I still visited as much as I once did I would want all the things above to actually BE wireplay - not just another place on the wireplay site to visit...

Its not a bad idea, I'm just of the opinion that all the above should BE what wireplay is - not what you can find elsewhere on the WP site.

I totally see the point about the WCN being a part of what the front page should be, but if you look at it, it hasn't been updated in a month and noone really seems that bothered about it eh ;)

I've discussed WCN and the homepage with Breath and we have decided that all of WCN will be presented via the homepage.

A new news system will be used in the not too distant future, but in the meantime, we can make use of the existing one with whatever we want. So please make good use of this forum to discuss news and ideas. Remember to email me for any news or articles you would like reported.

I don't think I've ever actually visited the wireplay front page...
And I don't remember this so-called 'spank!' either. Was it pre-1999 or was I shielded from such things?

I remember some post somewhere asking about assistance, and since I'll be free in a couple weeks, if you need assistance with stuff like SQL or PHP I guess you could email me - I'm no expert though. It's not like I do this stuff for a living.

Spank! was part of the gameplay era - probably missed it as it was part of the gameplay site, rather than the wireplay bits

Sounds like a brilliant idea, how serious would the Gaming News be!?!? for example, would you be reporting whats going on at ESWC quals, CPL, etc?

Is it just gaming news from the wp community? :)



edit: i am at the majority of UK ESWC and UK CPL events, so would be happy to keep you updated on all the games progress, etc! If thats what u wanna have on there of course :P

Any of the news can be serious, or just there for amusement. The object is to present a bigger variety of news, rather than the occasional news of an event which not everybody can relate to. So pretty much anything is welcome.

As I have said - anyone can submit news. So if you have access to a good source, please share what you know with us. I've noticed CPL often features in Wireplay news as it is, so I'd be happy to see it continue.

just thought about it, cos was running the CS tourney of the ESWC UK Finals the weekend just gone, and saw different media peeps updating their gaming websites and though about this! :P

So could keep results updated as and when they happen etc from the event :)
