Use this thread to help/try gather some company for your gaming sessions and/or events.

Just give an overview for whats happening as appropriate and a date/time and other info that is required.

Hopefully this thread may prove useful to finding company for your characters and allow for others to know when things will be taking place.

Try to keep this thread on topic please - that means only post if you wish to announce a meeting/event time.

Some prisoners have escaped from Minas Tirith!

An Orc captain, an experienced black numenorean assassin and an olog hai have escaped imprisonment before information could be extracted from them. They fled into the west leaving fourteen dead guards in their wake.

Captain Parek has already explained the situation to a few in Minas Tirith. The three prisoners must now be found and killed. The urgency to find and kill them is so great that a price of 10,000 gold pieces is on each of their heads, a total reward of 30,000 gold pieces.

The prisoners appear to have split up and headed to somewhere safe. Little more can be learned from this announcement, although the captain of the Knights of Gondor, Argon Balros has been fully briefed and can be approached for further information.

It would seem though, that the minions of Sauron are also getting involved. The Witch King is offering a similar reward for each escaped prisoner escorted back to The Tower of Minas Morgul safely. This could result in some deadly confrontations taking place...

(I will be running this campaign whenever I have time and if there is an appropriate ratio of good/evil characters online at the time. If I decide to run the event, I will instigate the start of the event somehow; through npc's chattering, tells, or strange goings on. This campaign will take place over several events, involving one prisoner at a time.)

Any as there is some detective work in it i guess, though low levels may wish to stand back if things turn nasty :P Though if theres a group of low goods and evils aswell, we could make 2 seperate fights should the need arise.

It would appear that the Olog Hai, known only as Krug, was rescued by Saurons minions, despite attempts by the bounty hunters to stop them. Saurons forces prepared an elaborate stunt which partly went well, but largely was ruined by the troll as they crossed pelennor.

A battle ensued and men from Minas Tirith came out to assist the badly out numbered bounty hunters, but alas, it was not enough. Although badly battered, the forces of Sauron won the day and lead a badly wounded troll (although he would not admit it) back to Minas Morgul, where they were rewarded for the rescue.

Though, strangely, when the Witch King pressed Krug for his information of the White city, the troll had...forgotten. Enraged the Witch king killed the troll on the spot and said no more. The trolls giant sword was picked up by the Olog Hai known as Urrurz Sum and he now Weilds this great ice blade at times along with his giant axe.

But this is only one prisoner accounted for. Somewhere out there is the next prisoner, and as a master of stealth, he won't be easy to find...

Well, I can't wait to give Kev's new dungeon crawl a good going over and so Greg is looking for like minded fellows, GSOH, who like cosy nights in and monster bashing, to aid him with the new challenge.

If we aim to start around 7-7.30 on Monday 15th we can see if Kev has indeed created "the best MERP UK dungeon crawl ever"!!

Valen De'Vir calls for adventurers, treasure hunters, knights and mercenaries to an epic quest!

Asked by the blacksmith of Minas Tirith to find three components in the crafting of a fine armor, Valen will need all the help he can in recovering them, assuming he can find them...

The first component needed is the blood of a fire drake. After much investigating and scouting, Valen has found an adult fire drake in the north of the island of Tolfolas.

The second component, a bar of mithril, has been said by the blacksmith to be found in Khazad-Dum, most likely in the deep dark where goblins would have hidden it.

The third component, the essence of a magical undead creature, is unknown whereto be found, and will have to be located before collected.

All players hired will recieve a shared amount of the loot collected.

Players should meet at the Greyflood Inn in Tharbad Saturday at around 7.00 PM (GMT +0). Characters level 11+ of any race and alignment EXCEPT ORCS will be allowed to join the quest.

DM presence is requested.

I've been reading through this thread, and it seems as though I have lots of exploration to look forward to.

But as for the some of the group expeditions / DM challenges, I read somewhere above that I need to be at at least L12 !!!

Maybe next year !!!

PS On the closed thread reference player ethics, guilty as charged (as caught on line by Olorin), my only lame excuse is, I'M still very new to this type of on-line gaming experience !!!

Whoever told you this was either very very mistaken or phrased it very very misleadingly. The statement above is *NOT* true -- the DM team generally place as few restrictions as possible on the events they plan. Most of the time we are more likely to join the server and look at the parties on there, then come up with something fitting for one of them on the spot, and personally I've done far more low-level events than higher-end ones.

It is true that on some of the events that were announced in the forums, we requested a minimum level and (perhaps) a maximum number of characters in the party. This only happens when we have spent quite some time planning a specific DM quest which will involve combat sequences where characters below the minimum level would be useless/instantly dead, and on quests which will involve player interaction (don't they all... ;) ) and the DM in charge doesn't feel up to the task of managing the discussions of more than 6 people. Let me tell you, even 3 or 4 can be a real challenge if they're talkative...

What I'm saying, I guess, is that it's definitely not the case that you won't see a DM event until level 12. We do events whenever we feel up to it, for whoever is on the server at that time. :)

Hand Solo
07-09-2005, 12:11
You mean that DM's actually plan events regularly, as opposed to the normal quests on the server ???

Wow, I look forward to joining one real soon !!!

As for my L12 comment, I think it was a player invitation detailing the level most applicable to the quest, no offence meant, I'm beginning to respect you guys more and more each day !!! ;)

By mentioning the L12 thing, I was trying to add humour to my post, my next comment being "see you next year" was relating to the ammount of time it takes me to level up, as my weak character does tend to die an aweful lot !!!

Anyway, I've forgotton about my initial character, who was there to explore hence the power boosting and disregard of Roleplaying, my new character has been designed specificallyfor the Roleplaying aspect of the game.

Ok, he maybe a lot like me, which is because of my lack of experience with the Roleplaying genre !!

Thanks again for responding to my posts !!!

As you have a new character, perhaps introduce them in this (http://forums.wireplay.co.uk/showthread.php3?s=&postid=3218218#post3218218) thread. This will give the DMs something to work with and let the player community know who to look out for online.

Darn it Ar, stop racing away in lvls like that ;) . Who else can stupid Noonr have with him so he doesnt run into all of them wicked traps. You now how he is. Just a huge slab of meat that rushes toward everything that has pointy ears or smell of ale (or furry feet for that matter). Put a couple of traps between Noonr and a halfling will totally obliterate poor Noonr.

Sorry to bust your bubble, pal, but her search and spot skill are probably as low as yours, though I might boost 'em at level 13, seeing how craft trap and set trap are now completely useless without grenade weapons to use as component. I wonder why the DMs removed with 'em.

BTW, I don't powergame, I'm just a fool who'd got nothin' better to do than to level up an imaginary character on a server based in the UK :P. Wel there's studying, but that's way more boring than crushing elven skulls

Guyror
11-12-2005, 09:35
Trap crafting was a way to make a large amount of money fast at low levels. Since you could buy components for less than you sell the crafted trap it was abit stupid to say the least. That I believe is the reason you can no longer buy them in the shops, but I may be wrong on this matter.

Doomnair
11-12-2005, 12:18
I played on a server where all the crafted traps automatically became stolen items, therefore unsellable. Is this maybe something we could do here? This would prevent making money on traps and still make trap skill a sought after skill.

Guyror
11-12-2005, 12:21

""The following is a Rohirim announcement found in the Greyflood, The Prabcing Pony and hastily constructed sign posts on the Tharbad to Edoras road"".

Reports have been received and confirmed of a number of incidents involving robberies in the lands between Tharbad and Edoras. It would appear that a well organised band of cut-throats are operating in those lands and the near by mountainous regions.

The group have mastered the terrain and are employing the hills and cliff faces to their advantage. It would appear that a mark is first sought and then tracked for a period to asses the resources which would be needed to subdue it. In particular t they have come to target those individuals or groups on an errand likely to yield valuable loot. Travellers on the move between Tharbad and Edoras are to take greater care. It is advised that any conversations likely to be useful to the bandits should be had away from the roads and paths. From the reports gathered, the bandits seem to look upon themselves as honourable thieves, having refrained from killings and shown a tendency to parlay. If any travellers should find themselves confronted by these bandits they are urged to play up to their sense of honour and seek audience with the leader as this is likely to result in the least amount of financial loss.

The authorities of Tharbad and Edoras are co-operating in this matter and will be attempting to spare men to patrol the roads in between. If anyone should come by information they should report it to the Mayor of Tharbad or King Theoden.

Following is OOC:

If all goes to plan take place today around 6:30pm.
Open to all levels. Max players 5. Any faction or combinations thereof.
If your interested be travelling and talking where you shouldn’t be ;)
First come first serve, and very sorry I am going to be very strict about numbers otherwise gets unmanageable for me.

This is a very open ended event, which can end in the death of the bandit leader, him being persuaded to aid the dark or light forces (Mayor or King Theoden) or other resolution depending on what happens in the game, So be prepared for anything, including players coming out worse off than they started(You've been warned). There will definitely be further in game consequences if the leader lives and gives allegiance to a faction or remains neutral.

Charming rogue PC's will be at an advantage ;-), regardless of race(still depends on player rp ofcourse :P )

The Search and Scout ( S&S) organisation recently allied to Tharbad is seeking new recruits for Cloak & Dagger operations in the name of glory, honour and last but not least financial gain.

All interested should seek out the leader of the S&S by leaving a message in the Greyflood (pm me ). Applicants need to be resourceful, natural risk takers (willing to parlay), cunning, have an appealing personality and should have skills of negotiation in addition to the skills which are self evident from the name of the organisation.

Ours is a decentralised organisation with no fixed abode and for reasons of security no officially defined hierarchy, that is not to say there is not one. In light of this individuals will be expected to operate autonomously and should have a high degree of initiative as they will on most occasions be operating alone in the field. Our primary role is to be an extension of the eyes and ears of those whom we serve and all attributes which may favour this function will be looked upon favourably.

This is not an invitation for those who would call themselves assassins, we deal in information and on occasion misinfromation, not death.

The greater the risk the greater the reward.

King Theoden desires counsel with heroes and heroines and their companies on a worrying matter.

Gather OUTSIDE the golden hall at around 7pm uk time tonight.

Level suitability: All, though some parts will be suited to characters who have completed the current final Rohan quest.

Factions: Focussing on good aligned characters, though I will try to acommodate evil characters, particularly if there are many online and interested.

Notice for all: The event will come to the Tharbad greyflood at approximately 8pm UK time. All players are welcome to see whats going on as onlookers or get involved if they wish.

The men of Forochel will be sending a search party up into the Blue Mountains to investigate the increased numbers of monsters that have been reported in the area. Rumours are rife of a new threat to the quiet community on the tundra. A small band of survivors from a previous sortee have return battered and bruised talking of large numbers of goblins, wolves and even a few huge twisted creatures that have taken refugee in the cavern complex in the mountains. There was also some muttering of a strange device that no one could understand.

The patrol will be set to leave some time in the next few days, once preparations have been finalised.

OOC I am away for a few days, and will be looking to run this some time after christmas, more details to follow. I am looking for between 4-6 characters of levels 7-12 any faction.

I am thinking of running an event for elven characters and very close elf-friends if there is not enough elven interest (although priority will naturally be given to elves). The aim is to introduce some more recent elven characters to the Tirin Kormi in the hope that this organisation will provide some players with a framework for their own ideas about the goals etc that their elven characters pursue. For more details please see the Tirin Kormi thread (http://forums.wireplay.co.uk/showthread.php3?postid=3238595&t=2370#post3238595).

The idea is to escort a group of elves on their final journey west from Loth Lorien to Mithlond. The event will probably be broken up into two legs, the first being from Loth Lorien to Rivendell and the second from Rivendell to Mithlond.

The journey will not be incident free and will certainly call for diplomacy between the travellers themselves and between them and those that they meet. There may well be ambushes and more combat/stealth-orientated incidents too on the road.

I have no fixed ideas about timing or levels. I can do it tonight, Thursday night or (and perhaps this would be best) sometime from the 10th January onwards (I am away for a ten days from 30th December). Levels and timing really depends on what interest there is.

As the need for volunteers has been "made widely known" among the elves of both Lothlorien and Rivendell, please feel free to reply IC in the Tirin Kormi thread to Erestor or Haldir (with a very short OOC if necessary). Just for tidiness, please keep longer OOC stuff like admin questions (as in where, when, what, who, why and how posts) in this thread or send them to DM_Gwaihir@hotmail.com.

I hope this idea appeals to some at least. :)

A whispered message goes out to all those following the Eye. Trouble is afoot and help is needed to tightened the strangle hold upon the pathetic men of Forochel.

Those willing to earn respect and standing should report for duty in Isengard 2 days hence.

OOC// Friday evening a small force of up to 4 people of similar level preferably again around 8-12 is needed to perform a mission of stealth and information gathering. I will try to start at around 8pm again.

Now the new forums are online, I'd like to draw your attention to our brand new Calender function which i've had arranged for us.

All pre-planned DM run events will now be listed on the calender:

http://forums.wireplay.co.uk/calendar.php?c=3

Players can continue to gather players for other events here, but if you are looking for a pre-planned DM event to join, or just want to see whats happening, visit the calender. The main calender link can be found above the Announcements forum.

This calender is a very important step in our efforts to increase player activity a little, now that scheduled events can all be seen on the calender. Most of all, its much more organised :)

To show that I can take constructive criticism and that there are absolutely no hard feelings, I am hoping to run the Journey West event this Saturday afternoon/evening sometime between 16h00 and 0h00 GMT. As there will be little combat (maybe just a few enemies but absolutely no waves :) ) this event is open to all levels. I have left the plot structure wide open in my mind so I will be particularly looking for PC input to react against.

The elves will gather in Lorien from about 16h00 GMT. Elven characters and very well-trusted elf-friends are welcome to come and meet them to have chat and find out what they're like etc. The journey itself may not start until later when/if we have enough players but I have some ideas for keeping the earlier arrivals well-occupied...

Any and all are welcome and I really hope to see lots of you there.

For further details see the calender entry:

I myself am making a return to DM-ing events.

I will be running an event for evils around levels 10 - 16 on Sunday 15th January from 20:00 GMT - approximately 23:00 GMT (can't give a definite stop time I'm afraid - it depends how it goes.

For those of you who haven't partaken in one of my events before (which I think is a majority of players nowadays) they are combat mnimal and very RP heavy - I also often make use of skill checks. More info on the way I run my events can be found here:

Hope to see some of you in Isengard at 20:00 GMT on Sunday 15th January.

Aswell as Thursday, some of the slowly assembling clan will be gathering in Tharbad's Greyflood Inn Tonight(which be a fine inn, by mannish standards).

Any male dwarves (no wimmin in tha' front line!) seeking high adventure, enemies to put under the axe and gold should head to the Inn and speak with Hrór, son of the honoured Vór Ironheart. A small number of "dwarf-friends" are allowed, but such should be of mannish blood. Dwarves must outnumber men!

It is rumored that there will be a dwarven smith offering his work this market day in Tharbad. Naighin will open shop on Saturday around 18:00 (GMT) He is known to have a collection of fine crafted weapons to sell. That includes Staffs, Maces, Hammers, Flails, Axes, Swords, Bows and Crossbows. Small or great there is a weapon for almost every taste. Prices range in gold from 2500 to 5000 or higher. There are Dunedain Garbs decorating the market stall who may be sold to interested customers also.
Other smiths are invited to talk about the latest forge work while welcome to empty a keg of ale and maybe sell their own work along.

The S&S having been investigating the origin of the Uruks which recently attacked travellers to the south of Tharbad and managed to trace the location of their camp, deep in the Druadan Forest. Seeking to find out more information and hoping to destroy the camp, word was sent out again to Gondor and the elves for aid. Aid from the Knights was once again readily made available but no word reached regarding the elves even as the day of action drew closer.

On the day, Rofan appraised his own colleagues and the Knight, of the situation and advised them of the objectives. The party set off on its long journey and as the first day of their track drew to a close, they noticed movement in the shadows. After a brief hunt they apprehended a small orc scout clutching something in its hand which it quickly threw in the river. Quick wittedness on the part of the Knight retrieved the note while still legible and the orc sought to reclaim it by force only to achieve its own demise.

Content of the 1st letter found, from Man to his master:

“Master,

I beg forgiveness for my error in judgment regarding the S&S, unfortunately your assessment in this regard is correct and I am unable to act against them for the time being as the people have taken a liking to them. I fear that they are now aware to a significant degree of my purpose in the city.

You will be pleased to know that the camp for testing the elixir has been established. Unfortunately on our journey here 5 of the Uruks had an adverse effect from the elixir and took to various directions. They were in a frenzied state and my informants tell me a few were found in Tharbad and killed by the authorities. This was however fortunate, as it transpires that the S&S have chosen to meddle and I have word that they are trying to enlist the aid of the Knights and elfs. We expect them any day and are alert to their arrival, a combination of Knights, elfs and the S&S should prove a worthy foe for these Uruks and a most effective test. Once the battle is complete I shall take to my escape plan and return to you myself with word of the results.

Your Humble Servant,

The vassal of your will”

Knowing that they walked in to a trap, the party still chose to press on. As they entered the forest they were immediately beset by orcs and had to fall back to the Pelenor. Fortune chose to favour them though, for they were met by the elves Lauralea and Silivirendill sent by their lord to offer aid. Once more they entered the forest, this time with more favourable results, eventually coming across a bedraggled wretch of an orc, shivering and sweating and speaking only of a potion in exchange for which it offered them information. With the disgust of the elves apparent, the humans chose to offer the potion, once they had it, if in exchange the wretched creature would tell them of what to expect. Thus the search began for a cave within the forest upon finding which the party fought their way deep with in and having cleared it had yet to set eyes on any unusual Uruks.

SNarfel
29-01-2006, 15:36
Not long after they began to search the emptied cave though, they heard the distinct sound of cogs turning and mechanisms activating and from behind them the fall of heavy thudding footsteps. As they turned they saw before them an Uruk which immediately charged in to them with a zeal not even seen in any of its kind. Hard pressed were the party to deal with even one of its kind, though eventually they did bring the beast down. Clearly as if being tested, the party were allowed to gather themselves before yet another single Uruk appeared and charged in to their midst. Once more they brought it down but not before coming close to demise themselves strength. Realising that they would be no match for but a handful of these creatures the group hastened its search for any clues and upon finding a bottle of the elixir and another letter they made for the exit even as they heard laughter fading in to the distance as if some other was also departing.

Contents of the 2nd letter found, to man from his master.

“My Servant W (the rest of this word is smudged out and not legible)

I hope your activities in Tharbad are proceeding well, I caution you to be vigilant as I suspect that your decision to allow this S & S group to take root in Tharbad may be a folly. I have reason to believe that it was they in league with those all too often interfering Knights of Gondor and the elves who were behind the recent intrusion in to your documents. If it were not for the fact that your vassal is particularly effective for me to work through I would most certainly have replaced you by now, but do not test my patience by further incompetence.

My experimentations in the breeding and control of orcs proceed well. The supply of Hashish I received 5 moons ago from the east has aided me greatly in the perfection of an addictive elixir which should make it easier for men like you to control Uruks. Once addicted, I hope that the they will be obedient and servile to the holder of the elixirs and even more potent in battle.

I am sending you a company of 25 Uruks who have been thus addicted, in addition to many lesser of their kind. You are to scout a suitable location far from Tharbad, perhaps near Minas Tirith and set up a camp. Your task is to test the addicted Uruks against trained men at arms, such as the Knights of Gondor. Plan your attack well, ensure that the Uruks are in high need of the elixir prior to battle and then unleash them. Timing is everything with this potion. If the results are good then I will have to look for a suitable alternative source of Hashish for the concoction, perhaps the Shire weeds can be crossbred, but that is for after. Do not fail me.

Your Master”

Having gathered what information they thought possible the party headed back towards Tharbad, coming across the occasional of these addicted Uruks in various states of mind and picking up further samples of the elixir. Eventually they reported back to Rofan who requested that a sample be taken back to the elves, to Gondor and to the Shire Longbottom leaf farmers so that as many resources could be employed in finding a solution to this threat.

It did not go without notice that the individual behind this will likely seek large quantities of Longbottom Leaf through legitimate means for experimentation in the hope of finding a replacement to the eastern source. Similar purchase of Old Toby and Southern Star may be sought too. Word was also put out for travellers to be mindful of the southern roads as 11 of the 25 Uruks mentioned in the letter are still unaccounted for.

A hand-written note from Captain Fogey Willowbottom, personally delivered by a young hobbit messenger-boy, apparently intended exclusively for all recently-installed hobbit shirriffs—yours seeming to be at least the second or third copy...

Greetings and fondest regards from the Mayor, who has asked me to offer his heartiest congratulations on your commitment of service to the Shire! And allow me to add my own commendations—few careers can be argued to be more satisfying, if my own time walking the length and bredth of these pleasant lands serve as any guide.

But even as my humble career moves ever closer to its twilight, and the notion of penning a book of my casework in some comfortable corner of the Chalk Horse seems increasingly appealing, it is with great honour that I also have agreed to serve the Mayor in one additional capacity: passing along what bits of wisdom and experience my years have earned me to new recruits. As you’ve no doubt already discovered, the life of a shirriff is far more than a staff and a feathered cap! So if you’d humour a rickety old fellow shirriff like myself, perhaps you’ll find some modest benefit in these advanced lessons in dealing with some of the Shires more unsavory situations at best, or while away an afternoon with an interesting diversion or two at very least.

I should very much like these sessions to be a rather “hands-on” affair, testing each of you with challenges typical of the grief you’re likely to encounter in the coming months and years, and debriefing you after each incident with a heaping helping of my own advice on how the various matters might be best addressed. If a common time over the course of three or four weeks can be found where all shirriffs in the first two or three years of their official capacity might assemble with me for an hour, I’d think that might be jolly good arrangement. I’d propose Saturdays around 4 in the afternoon [GMT], but few have as much latitude with their time as I.

Please reply by return messenger if this might be a worthwhile undertaking in your mind and, if so, if a meeting as early as a week from today [Saturday] might be opportune, given all your current assignments.

Yours truly,

Capt. Fogey Willowbottom
The Chalk Horse, Michel Delving

Dear Captain,

I am writing to apply for the Shirriffs training programme recently announced in letters to newly installed Shirriffs.

I have for some time now served as a Deputy and assistant to Shirriff Maplebrook. The shirriff has been an excellent mentor and her guidance has helped me to grow as hobbit. I believe she has been pleased with my progress and has told me I should expect to be promoted to Shirriff in the near future. During my time as a Deputy I have ran into a number of situations where I have not been completely certain what would be the right thing for me to do as a Shirriff, and therefore find this opportunity to profit from the Captains training very interesting. If possible, I would gladly attend to a meeting any day the coming week.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Deputy Tobold Took

Dear Captain Willowbottom
It was very nice to receive your letter the other day, very nice indeed. How could I say no to such a fine offer, for I have as you said, had many experiences for which I have not been fully prepared, and would very much benifit from your advice and experience, very much indeed. If I could suggest that we meet mid morning at the Green Dragon that would leave me time to bake a mushroom pie, for I dont need to tell you, nothing important can be done on an empty stomach, no indeed. I shall eagerly check my mail each day in wait for your complete instructions. I do hope Mrs Willowbottom is well, I heard her mother recently took ill. Please tell her we are all behind her in this tough time, very tough indeed.
Yours Truly
Marion Maplebrook
East Farthing

PS I hope you will consider elevating Deputy Took to a full Shirriff, he has been a great help to me these past few weeks and is a very fine young hobbit showing much promise, very much promise indeed.

A drought of spirit is lying upon the tombs of Gondorian kings. A former calm and devout place has drastically changed its face. The souls of the long deads turned, twisted and raised.

The steward of Gondor has sent a dwarf and his party to investigate the matter and put an end to it. Naighin and his aides Cindi Angelheart, Glorin and Daisy Wheatlocks discoverd a horrible deployment of walking death and barely managed to escape.

After preparing for the deadliest of battles Naighin gathered who were able to overcome their innate fear of dead, to be named Daisy Wheatlocks, Pippy Smalls, Puggy Baconbread and Lauralea Tirr'Eir. Together they most cautiously stepped into the tombs - ready to meet death at every corner.

A little later their almost lifeless bodies have been released off the tomb as a final warning to the city of Minas Tirith.

A long time has passed since then. They recovered from their injuries and Naighin travelled from Erebor to Rivendell to seek advice from the oldest and wisest how to battle the already dead.

Getting advice from the elven cleric Alasse he now knows that only spirit can triumph where souls are driven ill. Confident that he can get filled up with quite much spirit of Aule's, he is willing to give the walking deads a final punch before they are rising out of the tombs and invade the white city.

Dark are the alleys of Tharbad at night. Between crouching drunks and Joygirls a grim dwarf is forcing his way to the Greyflood Inn to have a word with Mathas. A week has passed since he arrived back in the city to find Captain Damas of Rohan and finally after a thorough search he discovered a hint:
A secret place at the burial grounds seems to be used as a hideout lately, and Naighin is going to confront Mathas with his strong suspicion that Mathas' friend Damas was hiding there.
Still desiring to soothe the hard feelings of King Theoden of Rohan towards dwarves, Naighîn considers this task to be very important and he has yet to hear from Trista, Marlynna, Alasse, Sereg and Berethor who have been helping his search...

A ship slowly sails into an unknown port, standing on deck are a group of Mordor's finest soldiers and scholar's. The man at the prow, Vithos looks back and calls the rest to order. Soon we shall continue this venture to divide the free people, in but a few hours we shall land once again upon there shores and finish what was once started.

OOC.. Trying to organise a continuation of the high level evil quest, try to meet this evening 7pm ish UK time. It would be good to see all those that were there for the first part, plus any others that might of sneaked on board the ship after it left. levels 14+ prefered.

The recently revised arena event is fanstastic and a great way for your character to meet new faces and advance your stories. (And helps friends group together for activities afterwards following your discussions during the event)

It's on every Wednesday night. Here's the link: http://forums.wireplay.co.uk/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=142&day=2006-11-15&c=3

Let's turn our weekly arena into the hugely popular event it used to be! Bring a character, tell your friends! The cream of UTT will be there! (whatever that's supposed to mean).

We hope to see lots of you there!

14-11-2006, 05:28
Validriel tried to imagine the sequence of events that might lead to success at the upcoming military summit. The King of the Lake Men, solemn, thoughtful, would be ready to commit to a long-term defense of the bridge across the River Running and the land adjacent to it. The mayor, the voice of the town's business interests, would be willing to concede that there was little profit to be made if the island were overrun by the enemy. Thranduil's captains, seasoned warriors all, would be willing to compromise on the price of elven wine with a generous contract, in trade for a shared burden defending these northern reaches from a growing menace from the east and the south.

"The motivations of all parties could, indeed, work toward this alliance," Validriel thought, "if only reason dictates the outcome." These stubborn folk had come together, after all, just a generation before. But the elf-maid also knew from history that in matters where men and elves were concerned, and where profit and security hung on opposite scales of the balance, actions were not always rational. She looked up to the starry sky and offered a humble prayer, seeking the Elentari's wisdom. "If only they knew the aftermath of bloodshed firsthand as I do," Validriel concluded, "a coordinated defense of their homelands wouldn't receive a second thought. They'd agree in a heartbeat."

Validriel rose from her knees, resigned to an uncertain future. "I suppose we shall all know soon enough."

*I'd like to try to schedule the first of as many as three military summits between the Wood Elves of the Greenwood and the Men of Esgaroth for this Sunday (the 19th), 4pm [GMT/UK, 11am EST, 8am PST] at the Esgaroth Town Hall. Emissaries wishing to speak to the importance of this alliance are welcome to attend, as well as those with reservations or concerns they wish to air.*

Following on from Roiry's most recent post on setting up a locksmith business (A Lock of Silk) and childlikedelight and DM Curumo's excellent responses, Barnaby and Roiry are hoping to get together for a little bit of... hobbitry in Tharbad. Needless to say, this may involve getting into trouble with the authorities or the Brotherhood or most likely, both!

Anyone (player or DM) interested in a bit of fun and developing the storyline, please feel free to join us today (Wednesday) at 1800 GMT at the Greyflood. If PvT (Ashal), DM Curumo and DM Araw or anyone else with a vested interest in Tharbad are available, it would be fantastic.

Combat is unlikely (unless a DM or member of the Brotherhood/ Silverswords intervene) so there's no issue about levels. I have a rough idea how I'd like the plot to pan out but like real life, surprises are... inevitable :)

Glorfin was sucked into a portal in moria many many moons ago he has not been seen since then so now it is time to look for him. Back to moria where it started, perhaps a Clue will turn up.

At the Dimril Dale it will begin....but help is needed for a Scholor can not hold off the hordes of orcs and goblins in moria.

//Starting at 7pm GMT Sunday 10th (tomorrow). since we will be going into moria there will be some combat so i recommend lvls 9+

//had to rescedule the above for a few reasons. anyways this will be a more informative and better post.

Even from the Beginning of their adventure through Moria there was very strange happenings...manifestations of a stone creature...no no, i know what your thinking, it was not a stone giant and it certainly was not corporal. It spoke to the group on a couple of ocations saying something along the lines of them not being the masters. What masters? i hear yourself asking. Well thats what Glorfins group was asking amoung themself also. On they went anyway, encountering the manifestation two or three time more, it saying the same thing each time they saw it. Then the next time they saw it at the endless stair in the First Deep a very pecular thing happened.....the group found them selfs outside the Dimril Gate to Moria watching themselfs enter the place. How can you watch yourself i hear you thinking. Well well now isnt that an intresting matter. Glorfins Group decide that they went back in time, but came up with no idea as to How. Only that it was linked to the manifestation. So after a repeat of the first sighting of the incorporal stone creature they were back at the Endless Stair of the First Deep. At this point the group decide that the creature was talking to them, only at a different point in time. Whats that you say? whats going on here? is that possible? To that i say, many things are possible that seem impossibe at one point. Think about it...time travel...sure its not possible now but in the future? in which case its possible past and present also. So on we get with the story. They continued their adventure not seing the manifestation again. Glorfin and his friends came to a point where he stoped them and decide it was time for blessings and protections from Valar. As he went on in his prayer and bestowing blessings on each of his friends gradually he felt a pull...as if he was physcially being drawing towards something. I know what your thinking and i know that you know i know so i wont bothing saying. The answer is simply this. Through Glorfin the power of the Valar was flowing and out it came on to his friends. This power mixed or perhaps colided with the Energy of the recent time travel and created a portal and drew Glorfin towards it. Since so much divine energy was flowing through him, he was the only one effected. Now this was no ordinary portal it was created in a rather chaotic manner, what it would do or where it lead was not discovered as none of the others could enter it. But what i can tell you is that Glorfin did not "come out at the other end" He is stuck in the space between the entry and exit portals, Timeless. From that point Glorfin has not been seen to this day.

A rescue is now being mounted led by a Scholar of Rivendell knowen as Sereg. And how does he plan on rescueing him you ask? Well here it is. Sereg Believes that he can determin where the other side of portal will be by investigating the area where the portal that sucked in Glorfin was. In order to do that he will need the help of at least one of Glorfins friends that day to show him where he went missing.....that he has in the form of one Hiril Ama'lian a very close friend of Glorfins. But for these two the Hordes of Moria i fear will be too much. Aid would be greatly appreciated though Hir Sereg may say not in his boldness to impress Ama'lian. The four trees by the stone formation just outside the entrance to Lothlorien is where these two will meet. With a new adveture at hand lets see where this leads and perhaps i can tell you about it some time.

//Thursday 14th 6pm GMT onwards, Good alignment only, lvls 9+ for the first part which will be in moria.

// We will need at least one DM for this for effects and teleporting at least, any and all wishing to help with this let me know, im on irc most of the time :)

I am sorry the recent Tirin event (http://forums.wireplay.co.uk/showpost.php?p=3288202&postcount=109)overran (and rather ran out of control). Everything took a lot longer than I had expected and so we simply did not have the time to reach the conclusion to the story which I had hoped would be satisfying to all involved. As it was, it rather peetered out with nobody really knowing what to think.

Anyway, there was a lot going on at the same time in different places so I only saw part of what happened but I did see some good moments and excellent roleplay by all involved. I just hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Apologies again for not organising things better so everyone could see the story concluded and feel some sense of having achieved something. Thanks to everyone for turning out and getting into the spirit of things.

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Tirin event. If anything the lack of a conclusion today only lends to highten the anticipation for the actual one. So big thanks to all involved, both players and DMs, and here's to finishing what we started.

Resting his head on a pile of locked gold chests, Naighîn watches his wagon leaving the city of Tharbad with half closed eyes. The market has earned him a fortune for sure and beeing the smart son of Gelda Rockskirt he would not stay in town to see himself getting robbed of his treasure the night after. According to the weight he must have made over 100 000 in gold and sold over 100 lbs in goods.
Soon - soon enough he is going to count every single coin and gem, but for now he has to keep alert. There have been some faces lurking around his stall which seemed more interested in inspecting his wares and watching his deals than purchasing themselves. Putting his right hand close to the hilt of his axe he looks for movements in the darkness ahead while keeping a low profile...

//OOC:
If there are some evils or lawless people interested, i am offering Naighîn to be target for an ambush of bandits. Naighîn will travel alone to take care of his treasuries (he is really not wise after all). A successful ambush (whichever way done) can win you one item of his remaining shop-vault each bandit or 40 000 gold total. Naighîn is lvl10/11 Fighter/Dwarven Defender in case you don't know, so low levels better keep away or have a genius for planning.
Anounce here if you are interested and we can sort out time and day. Before starting the event i want all attendants to form party and agree over PvP-terms in party channel.

In yet another market-day spin-off, Miss Trista Tanglefoot hopes to find herself at the Greyflood Inn this evening (7pm PST, 10pm EST, 3am GMT) to pursue the prospects of a very fine picnic with Miss Illynna (sp?), as she seemed at our first meeting to be very anxious to better our acquaintance, and perhaps even to introduce the hobbit lass to several of her dearer friends.

Similarly, Trista wishes to extend as cordial an invitation to any and all of her own circle of long-standing (long-suffering?) friends who might find themselves in the greater Tharbad region to bring their own beverages and join in the fun, as it’s so easy to add another turnip or two to the stew and serve all the more. What will be the topic of picnicking conversation? Difficult to say, but I expect participants will find amusement whatever the case.

Trista
09-01-2007, 23:40
*the following is a note delivered to the Tharbad City Hall, addressed to the mayor.*

Dear Mr Mayor,

In the interest of public safety, I wish to report a most distressing case of picnicking perniciousness perpetrated only just yesterday against yours truly. Perhaps the customs of your city are much different than those of the West Farthing, but where I come from it is considered extremely ill-mannered for three members of a picnic outing to choose their fourth member for tying up in a very dark bag, followed by rough treatment, followed by tossing into a troll cave. I take particular offense, as you might imagine, since that baggee-slash-roughed-upee-slash-tossee was, well, me.

I regret that the trauma of the event has left me with only the sketchiest memory of the company I traveled with that fateful afternoon. It seems as if it included two rather tall ladies and one similarly tall (and extraordinarly dark) gentleman, though for the life of me I cannot recall their names, if even I ever knew them. They spoke of a third lady who had designs on my very nice hobbit feet, and I daresay they meant that those feet not necessarily remain attached to the rest of me!

Well, mind you, if the lady they meant was the one I met very briefly in Laketown some weeks ago, and who jumped down the trap door of a rather eccentric resident, and whose nice pouchful of shiny sapphires tumbled out of her pocket as she jumped and landed at my feet—well, I’m not surprised that her very chilly disposition might wish such. Still, perhaps once she knew that, when I could not follow her to return the stones, I gave them to a very worthwhile hobbit widow and her ten impoverished hobbit children, she might look more kindly upon me.

I can only thank my lucky stars that, when these three so-called picnickers ultimately tossed me into that most vile troll cave, I slid a good part of the way in and fell only the last few feet—landing rather softly, actually, cushioned by a rather bulging pouch of scones. The pastries were a total loss, sadly, but I was thankfully unharmed. Before the troll could spot me I wrapped myself in my darker traveling cloak and hid as best as I could. A few minutes later, those same three picnic-spoilers entered, perhaps figuring to collect my remains. But as they were ever so loud and boisterous, the troll took quick notice of them, and as their attention was focused on the brute, I made a stealthy escape behind them.

As you can tell by my recounting of the ordeal, the afternoon was anything but pleasant. And so, I urge you to exercise what authority you have to prominently post signs—at least one as the road leads west from the city past the docks to the plains—that reads very plainly, “Visitors: Picnic At Your Own Risk!”

Thank you.

Miss Trista Tanglefoot
formerly of Trundle Hill, West Farthing

The elf-maid walked slowly across the lawns stretching away from the Elven-king's Gate with a renewed sense of hope. Hir Thranduil, ever reserved, had just a few minutes earlier seemed to welcome the prospects of hosting the next in the series of military summits with the men of Esgaroth and Dale. Perhaps it was that this time the event would be staged on his turf, with the expectation that his concerns would take center stage. Perhaps it was simply the nobler sense of the importance of moving matters forward toward a lasting alliance.

"Progress must be swift," thought Validriel to herself, as she drew her elven blade from over her shoulder and peered deeper into the dim woods ahead. On even the path that connected Thranduil's Halls with Esgaroth, the dangers lurked around every dark corner. Venomous spiders and foul bear-sized beetles were as frequent as ever. Take a wrong turn and one was apt to face far worse. And not only would the alliance aid in suppressing the current grief in the area, Validriel hoped, but it would survive to act against even more ponderous enemies attacking from further afield.

"If the tone that was started in Esgaroth can carry forward... if the commercial interests can be married with the military interests... if..."

*I'd like to try to schedule the second of the military summits between the Wood Elves of the Greenwood and the Men of Esgaroth for this Sunday (the 19th), 4pm [GMT/UK, 11am EST, 8am PST] at Halls of Thranduil, the Elvenking. Going to try and complete the armour quest. I'v had this open for about 6months now, kinda gave up trying to get a party after the first few months :s

anyway, meeting at Rivendell 7pm GMT Thursday 15th, this is for Celdorn my elven ranger, lvls 13-18. Would be much appreciated if i can finally get this done. Cheers.

blode and all

Terribly sorry I crashed out tonight but I lost my phone line for 2 whole hours. And if anyone in the UK is thinking of migrating his/ her ISP to TalkTalk "free" broadband - think again. I've been having lots of connection problems the last few days since I switched over. (Frenchman - are you with them as well?)

I know Roiry wouldn't have made very much of a difference to the party strength but if you guys had waited for me for a while, I'm very sorry to have held you guys up.

Hope it all went well anyway :) now I just have to wait for the next reset before logging in again.

Validriel

Validriel steeled herself against disbelief as Haldir spoke the words, "all evidence indicates that Hir Aelinwe has been lost to the forces of darkness."

She swallowed hard, then looked into Haldir's eyes. What modest skills any of the elentarinduri had learned of the healing arts over the past many years was a product of Aelinwe's patient coaching. She'd known that the devout's service to Celeborn and Galadriel carried even greater responsibilities, though. He'd often travel far from the golden glade for months at a time, and for days after his return from these pilgrimages he'd be found in the Lord and Lady's company, conversing in an ancient tongue, and in soft, guarded tones.

But, in the past two weeks, on two occasions communications expected from him had not arrived and, even more worrying, just three days ago he failed to meet Haldir near the Wold for a meeting of no modest consequence. And today's news brought no comfort, either. Beyond Aelinwe's mysterious absence, a captain of the Rohirrim has been reported missing as well.

Validriel nodded slowly, the only signal that Haldir needed to know that she would give her teacher's rescue her most urgent attention. In the hands of the enemy, Aelinwe would never betray Lothlorien, but would sooner perish than offer up the secrets he held. But knowledgeable captors might well suspect his importance; wherever he went, Aelinwe wore a cloak of rare distinction, a gift thought to have its origins among the vanimar vanimalion nostari... the beautiful ones who beget beautiful children.

She would have to assemble companions of great skill and valour, and time was of the essence.

Validriel
20-04-2007, 06:19
Validriel opened the chest, rolled back a thick layer of grey woolen cloth, and stepped back so that Hir Erestor could view the contents. Though a full moon shone high overhead, the blades inside did not reflect its beams--rather, the blackened pitted surface of each seemed instead to capture and snuff what light might find its way within a foot or two, keeping the arsenal cloaked in layer upon layer of shadows.

"Was Hir Elendri able to render an opinion on them?" Erestor asked, turning with a look of concern to the elf-maid.

Validriel shook her head slowly. "Only that which you surmised yourself, Hir Erestor... of the nature of the foul lore embued upon them, but nothing of their maker, nor those for whom they were intended."

She thought back to so many days prior when a hapless Laketown lad, playing hiding games with his still younger brother, crawled inside one of a dozen dusty chests stowed at the end of the island-city's westernmost pier, only to be struck by such fear that his screams were heard by the guards posted on river's bank a half-mile away. And then to how, within the great town hall, the city's elders came to that same conclusion that Validriel had grimly conceded when she first cast eyes on the store of weapons there on the docks—that through Esgaroth's own shipping traffic had nearly passed the tools for what was likely to be its imminent destruction. But this represented a single chestful from among how many chests-full? Indeed, how many might already have found their way to those who would soon wield them?

Word spread quickly and discreetly of the threat discovered, even unto Erebor, where the Thain--who had so many weeks ago proposed a date still woefully distant into the future for the third of Validriel's military summits. But now, with a very different sense of urgency, he issued orders that his captains assemble at the soonest possible opportunity with their counterparts from Esgaroth and the Woodland Realm and elsewhere, to revive those earlier ambitions that had begun to fall dormant... But he quickly added that the venue should be changed, from his own great halls to a place where the secrets of these sinister blades might be illumined, that the talks might be informed by those findings.

And so, it was that the chest was brought forth from the East and was escorted the long distance west to now rest here in Imladris, where it might become the centerpiece to the solemn council soon to be convened, assembling once more those interested in coordinating the defense of the upper Anduin.

Validriel reached inside the chest and slid a pair of gauntleted fingers along one of the blades and held them up for Erestor to see. From those fingers dripped blood... a mixture of human and elven blood... blood with which each blade in the chest was fully bathed.

// The third (and final?) military summit to arrange a shared and comprehensive defense of the region including Esgaroth and Thranduil's kingdom seeks to be convened this Saturday, April 21, at 11am PDT, 2pm EDT, 7pm UK time. Those with an abiding interest are urged to send representatives.

Validriel
21-04-2007, 21:55
Validriel scratched the last few lines of tengwar onto the parchment that would be her report to the Hiril Galadriel. With the clear and present threat posed by the dark blades found in Esgaroth -- still steeping in blood in the dark chest now left to Elrond's safekeeping -- the final commitments were made and dwarves and Lakemen and woodland elves had finally set aside the last of their differences.

Well-armed dwarves would be posted strategically throughout that area to supplement the human and elven forces. Monitoring of cargo trafficked in and out of Esgaroth would be tripled. Trade concessions, especially from Thranduil's winemakers, would be assured. Additional forces would be trained, with direction from Rivendell's most experienced security expert. Stouter shields able to withstand the enemy, clearly more dangerous than might have been thought, would be forged. Funds would be brought to bear to sustain the effort. And, perhaps most importantly, coordinating meetings would be arranged between captains every three months, and renewals of commitments would recur each year.

She folded the document, sealed it, and wrote on the outside next to the date: "The Northeast Alliance." In smaller glyphs just below, she added: "May the light of Alcarinque shine upon those who strive for its success." She tucked the message safely into her pack, flicked out the candle's flame, sank back into the deep guest-house chair, gently closed her eyes, and pondered her next assignment with a hopeful smile.

// My fondest appreciation to Marlynna, Lance, Naighin, Rheowen, and Azaghil for their participation in today's military summit. And even greater thanks to DM_Unien, without whose help today's event wouldn't have been possible.

It turns out that Muti will be unavailable for our event on Saturday ( SNarfel sends his apologies; an unavoidable conflict has come up.) However, we can still have a council about what to do when he is available for a journey to the Druadan Forest. It is possible that there could be some kind of followup adventure immediately after the elves and their friends finish wagging their tongues.

Saturday's event will consist at least of a meeting to decide how to help the Druedain. We will reschedule the travel with Muti himself.

I suddenly had the urge to pretend to be a shy, overweight, bearded gentleman with an unhealthy interest in axes last night and was wondering whether any of the higher levels would be around today for a get together? I know Muti has something planned so we need to fit it around that.

The porter stood tall before the Closed Gate and shook his head doubtfully. "Many foreigners have I denied passage to the Silent Street and the Hallows in recent weeks, each with tales seemingly as urgent as yours."

Validriel considered the threat that moved among the dead of Minas Tirith. Having been corrupted and mummified, the lost warrior Ruithril might never be recognized... and might never be questioned by the dark ones about all those secrets of Caras Galadhon he had held safe during his days among the living. But it could not be risked. She would have to extinguish what sleepless anger was planted in his heart and had since stirred him to wander the mausoleum where he'd fallen so many years ago — the only certain way to silence him.

"If a Knight were to vouch for my appeal?" Validriel asked. "And perhaps others of heroic stature?"

The porter considered this counteroffer for a moment, then smiled. "Let us see what Knight you might bring to your side... then I will consider your passage."
