View Full Version : Locked tavern door
This is rather a bug, but what do you think:
Dwarf enters tavern, human enters tavern and locks door. Human wants money from dwarf for unlocking the door.
Usually the barkeeper would unlock the door, he wants an open door for guests being able to enter his tavern. At least a dwarf with STR 16 would bash down the door.
We all know that the NWN scripts do not allow bashing down doors flagged as invulnerable, but is it good roleplay to use this minor bug to one's advantage? I say locking doors/gates in the wilderness is a legal way to trap other players, but it should be forbidden in taverns.
What is your opinion?
Personally I don't think this approach should be used at all. Its open to all kind of abuse. It smacks to me of picking on playersat the very least - somthing which to my mind is totally unacceptable. As you say even if it is allowed, somthing I'm sure he development team will look at - it most certainly shouldn't be possible in public places like taverns.
Feel free to name the character who did this.

i was talking to the character who did this whilst he did it the way i interpreted it was that he was being locked in the back room, but obviously not, well anyway it lead to some great ro tracking down the culprit
The problem is whilst you got quite an agreeable thing from this -I'm assuming it was this that led to theactions you talk about ni the Praise thread,it was obviously done without the agreement of the original victim. They obviously are less than happy with what happened, otherwise they wouldn't be posting it as a bug/exploit.
If you want to arrange your own PvP events I know the development team don't mind this, but it is vitally important that everyone involved has agreed to what takes place.
That aside I still personally see this type of action as an exploit at the very least, and would hope it doesn't happen again.

i'm sure the person responsable meant no harm and with a couple of nudges could be a good rper
It led for sure to some great role playing, wich I enjoyed very much. I just wanted to make it public, for it is using a bug to one's advantage. The action itself was a clever idea and if a dwarf cannot keep his mouth shut, he'll have to face the consequences.
I do not want at all that player to be punished for this action.
Nothings going to happen.
Its just that in the past, we have had players messing about in areas for new players in the intent of causing new players grief. Past methods have included laying strong traps in shops and long the roads, which will kill a new character outright. Other methods included locking players in buildings and running off.
Provided there was some sort of consent to what was going on, and that it was in the interests of rp and fun, we have no problem with it. In this instance, I can see that was the case.
However, if things like this happen to you and are clearly the cause of someone messing around, you have a right to report it. The player is grief playing and can recieve a very hefty temporary ban.
