I'd like to see players posting here when they feel another player or a DM has made your moments of roleplaying more fun and enjoyable.

No bad vibes on this thread or Aulë will resmelt you.

The defence of Erebor was great fun - and guess what, no one went running away to heal or get the dragons trapped behind the furniture. Now that was a good standup fight, very typical of the exploits that stem from the Anvil. It was great to get the old wall back together for a decent scrap - Dargo, Balac, Lolinus and Veld. Shame Dun was busy stocktakin he would have enjoyed hisself :)

Aye, that was great. It was the Dwarven wall doing what it does best - fightin'. We may have taken it in turns to back off and heal up (not rest) but then thats why we party. This makes me want to keep playin' as Lolinus right up to when UTT2 comes out and I restart him.

Great stuff, we had a good few hours of wholsome RP fun, lots o chatting, drinking and fighting and the wall. Our beloved Aule showed up too, and showed us how good a drinker he is, and we defended bravely our city - untill we get Mordor back that is!
The Dwarven wall consisted of four individuals, the screenies show just how different we all look, part from the height (hehe). And being all different we compliment each other well! Great stuff.

Long live the Dwarves, down with the dragons!

My favorite Tolkien creature has always been the Ent. So huge and powerful, yet when I finally got strong enough to venture into Fanghorn Forest I was really disappointed. Not a single Ent in sight! My character background even said that I learned from the Ents in Fanghorn, but it didn't look like I would ever get a chance to roleplay it.

Then on my way through the forest a massive Ent stood before me, and asked me to go orc crushing with it! I don't know which DM it was, but whoever you are, thanks. That was the first time a DM in any mod I've tried actually added to my gameplay. And I saw that there are Ents in UTT2...I can't wait.

One of the many things that I enjoyed about UTT1 was the eccentricities that many players added to their characters' behaviour that made them more than just warriors, mages, rogues etc. For example and in no particular order:

- Greg's charming ignorance.
- Frain's ravenous appetite.
- Gloili's endless abuse of "pointy-ears"
- Cara's judgemental haughtiness
- Fasin's gruff kindness
- Azalith's intractable pride
- Argon's dangerous temper
- Palli's inappropriate flirtatiousness
- Halucia's barely restrained wildness

I could go on, these are just a few that spring to mind. I have met too many characters who's wierd and wonderful ways have made adventuring in UTT1 an enjoyable and challenging experience to mention them all.
Thanks to you all.

Frains exploits have made me laugh more times than i can remember,
Vinduil just seems like an elf its uncanny,
Halucia and azaliath wandering around the camp eating insects while in badger form, Halucia licking argons face to say hello and goodbye(wolf form),
Lex the evil wizard who some how seems to make his particular brand of evil sound good, Kerve disguised as a guard in tharbad winding people up,
Road tolls belacose, beveral, kerve,miriam.ect
Avram for his eagerness to right any wrong no matter how small,
Altan for giving a strong feeling of remource when speaking of his past,
and so so many others thank you all and i hope you all will join us in utt2

After being on a small journey near Bree with 3 other elvenfolk, a DM kindly added to the RP with little touches, most had more relevence to two of my companions than to me, but I could see they loved it and that's awesome in my opinion. I personally had a tear in my eye from when a black antelope took some interest in us, ahhhh what this means to a druid cannot be described!

It's these little things that make it so much more than what nwn usually is. I personally cannot remember seeing DM's interact in such subtle yet effective ways. Another moment from tonight was when whichever DM it was took control of the innkeeper in the Prancing Pony . Absolutley perfect! Added to the RP of it all, making it seem so much more real. The party then sat down to a meal and a VERY long yet extremely enjoyable tale by one of my companions. This probably would not have been as good had it not been for the prior interaction helping our minds become immersed in our roles.

I must give thanks to whoever the DM was for putting little touches to a fine adventure. Also thanks to Lorinol, Aviel and Uneriol for being awesome roleplayers! :D

Last night i stayed up until yon time but didnt regret losin the sleep one bit. I was invited along and couldnt resist the urge to delve into the depths of Moria. The party Veld travelled with RPed very well, Samson Stronghand (shame about the scythe lad), Tyrion and Aviel. Well done to the lot of you. And a thousand thanks to Aule and Mandos who were there in spirit as the balrog descended in fury upon our hapless band.

Absolutely great night and Kev this Moria gets my vote as the best area ive ventured into so far. Nice and tough. Lots of winning through battered to a pulp. Buffing be damned, lets bleed like stuck pigs in a clumsy butchers. Thats the way. Twice Veld was down to less than 10 hp but that only makes the fightin more desperate and more excitin, and besides he didnt have much to heal with. :)

Really hoping that the crafting system changes soon as I cant afford to make any changes to my gear at all, even at this early stage. Its a bit frustrating not being able to make the armour suit your character. What looks fine on a human, dont always on a large phenotype dwarf. Maybe Longbeard's system will be more practical and affordable. At the moment it costs more to make even minor changes than to buy a new suit of plate. Basically by the time ive got the gold together to make the changes, I'm ready for and can afford new plate.

Yesterday I was with a large party in Rohan, and after killing a drake Elriela and I split for Erebor. On our way we stopped to talk and our low level companions passed us for the Wold. When we caught up with them they are hard pressed by Uruks, and when we helped finish them we were all confronted by Saruman. He summoned a massive Devil that regenerated, and we spent a good 15 minutes hacking away at the beast as a young healer Marcus constantly tended our wounds. It was a nice break from the normal quests, and I have to say thanks Kev!!

This is quite a widespread praise and a bit of a celebration too.

All those who took part in sundays 'barricade' quests played really well. 99.9% of the roleplaying was perfect

One thing which caught my eye was a pair of evil elves, spreading their opinions of the good forces after the event. You never see this sort of rp often and it would be great to see more, or the lies of the enemy actually taking hold of some good forces, creating sub-good factions amongst them from time to time. Not everybody has the same opinion on things.

But the big, big thing I want to celebrate is the fact that one of UTT2's goals has been met - tactical party combat. This event saw the introduction and showcasing of the Black Numenorean range of NPCs. Each one using special AI settings to do all manner of things; Getting into a better position to use sneak attacks, healing allies, using stealth, buffing parties with bard spells, using smite good, etc.

This increase in the npc's 'intelligence' meant that the attacking good party had to think up a good plan, and to fight in certain ways. The fight was very exciting to watch and everyone semed to be enjoying themselves.

If you enjoyed that, its just a taster of things to come. All specilaised NPCs in development will use similar systems.

Now UTT2 has had some time to really show itself off, feel free to help us advertise the gameworld to more good roleplayers at our new NW Vault entry:

http://nwvault.ign.com/community/gameworlds/data/1102518750000.shtml

Remember to vote AND comment! Also note we said 'help us advertise'! Please don't do a Nathan and post whines just to get back at the community because you were caught cheating or something :P

I´d like to thank the Dm/Dm´s who took the roles of Khamul and his orc captain Gragdush last night.

A most enjoyable and very funny event (from us orcs point of view) when Khamul raised his voice to the impudent humans that we had joined up with for a quest.

A fine time was had by all, DMs and players alike, and I was lucky this time and had me a bit of each. :) There was some great RP and some interesting new enemies were encountered. Sometimes fatally. Well done all.

Hopefully we will be able to conclued our business with Lord Elrond in the very near future.

- everyone involved at the recently battles at the Gap of Rohan and Eregion.

Esteemed Master Longbeard,

Having interviewed the eyewitnesses, I found several interesting weaknesses and inconsistencies in their reports, as well as clear indications that some witnesses were more involved than they wish to admit, and may well have unsavory motives.

Furthermore, given the darkness and the possible intervention of a professional assassin, these events could well have been been beyond the ability of ordinary folk to report on reliably. A case of the dagger being quicker than the eye if you will.

And just how trustworthy are those so-called witnesses of yours, may I ask? That guard whose words were as pieces of a jigsaw puzzle? Those Elves who were never seen in Rivendell? Let those of them who claim kinship to us testify under Oath in Rivendell! If they do, we will lend them credence. If not, why do they hide and sulk in Human enclaves? And where else do they abide?

For these reasons, Tyrion's account of the matter must be heard, and must carry weight.

Why, you even sound like that Mayor of Tharbad, who was only too quick to condemn one of our kinsmen without the bother of a trial. Much as we value an appeciate his personal interest in the case though. And whatever became of the ancient tradition to give the suspect a fair hearing? And not to condemn before a trial is made? How can we expect any semblance of fair hearings in Tharbad now? And why this unseemly haste to condemn?

Whilst some of the shorter-lived races will rush to judgement on the strength of accounts from unknown witnesses, we will stand firm in our quest for justice.

You serve your case ill, master Longbeard. From you if anyone I would have seen more wisdom. Are we to believe that the Sons of Durin will henceforth condemn without a trial?

Shame on you!

A note from Lolinus Balix -

An account on the events of Tharbad were passed onto me by a member of the guard there, and I had the misfortune to see the bodies themselves. Despite people calling into doubt Tyrions involvement there can be no doubt that the wounds on the deceased were caused by a heavy bladed weapon, most likely a broadsword or ******* sword. Whilst the dagger may be quicker than the eye, a weapon of such size is not.

However such a blade is heavy, and oft once in motion cannot easily be controlled, mayhap the killings of innocent people of Tharbad was but a mishap. However this could be easily believed of one dead citizen, but of three? Well that does stretch belief.

A big thankyou to Dove and Veld, who helped me to do a Moria dungeon crawl as it should be done.

It took quite some time, and we entered with over 50 healing kits and 3 Raise scrolls.

We left with under 50% hitpoints each, and only five healing kits left. We were two fighters and a monk, so absolutely buff free.

This was without a doubt my best adventure on UTT2 yet! We worked hard to complete that quest for Glorfindel, andI can honestly say we earnt every point of xp we made and every single gold coin.

Heres looking forward to more quests along the same lines.

Some brilliant RP from Gregoire Althan and Vylenthra (edit: And Vinduil, of course...), many thanks for letting a dwarf feel the pain of finding unexpected decay where a flourishing city should have been... (Not a serious grumble, of course. :-))

Well, it's the little things that make the world come to life. Some DM sent us on a will-o'-wisp chase through shaking crumbling ruins... and made the fight with a certain druid possible (but barely - all of us were out of potions/kits/scrolls by the end of it *grins*), and was generally watching us for quite a long time.

An example of the "little things" - Glorin knocked against the walls of a tunnel a few times in different spots to see how dangerous it was, from a cave-in perspective. After the first knock, little clouds of dust started appearing where he was knocking...

Also, while fighting beasts from the depths of the earth, Vyl splashing lantern oil on them after Glorin explaining they hated light resulted in fireballs... quick thinking! *grins*

DM_Olórin
29-12-2004, 00:31
It's great when players relate their online experiences to others. When the PCs enjoy the adventure it makes the DMs want to get more involved in things and come up with stuff like that... Make creatures bahave in unpredictable ways, like the trickster Wisp leading them a merry dance into danger and safety... a few harmless pyrotechnics... the odd visual effect (OK a lot of visual effects)...

When the players play along with whats going on in the world its very satisfying for the DMs who add the "little things". Theres nowt more frustrating than a player who ignores these things because they cabnt wait to get at the loot and XP. Personally I'm happier doin that than throwing monsters at them all the time, though I do that too sometimes especially with them what dont play nice... :P

I feel that when players really try to stay in character at all times and RP together when others simply dont bother to do that except when they have to, I do thinjk that the occasional (and I mean occasional) helping hand is appropriate. Whether it goes against "realism" or not, I'm no rules lawyer, I'd rather see a party have a great time and complete the quest successfully. Hell, chances are Im having as much fun as they are and I dont want it to end in an unsatisfying manner. It was like that in my PnP days. Reward the GOOD RPers with attentive (and maybe sympathetic) DMing where possible. The BAD RPers get my attention too of course, often to their detriment and a lot of bad language. Not all the DMs here will agree with me, but thats the way I do it. :P

Glad you had fun... cos I did :)

Whichever DM's it were that decided to get us all worked up over the geysers in Forochel that was an interesting bit of work. I was sorta hoping for something to pop out of the geyser, even an old man who said, "what the 'ell am I doing here?" Ahh well I once tortured a whole room full of players for 2 hours because they were sure, absolutely convinced, that there was something to an in-depth description of a fishing hole in a stream, other than a spot to fish.

I enjoyed the afters, a certain group of evil characters listening into the remains of the good party and following them towards Edoras. We stood on guard for a good 10 minutes there, and started sneaking out to try and spot any intruders - good RP all round after the event.

I have to praise two players, met them the other day did Scrill while stumbling around, looking for scrolls. Shed made her way to Forochell and met Wulfus. He came up like a gent, he could see i was a lass of Morgoths by my attire, i dont hide the fact, so we had some polite conversation. Then up walked Culkett and said "thank god i havent paid all that gold to get here for nothing.... hello!!" We went off to do carn dum crypt, with the chessboard. I have done it before, but my boys hadnt, and so much fun it was following them around, not guiding. Watching them get puzzled by the puzzles.
I have to say though, you two are great fun, we are serious evils and we were havin a good laugh, the mission was great, im not sure if you two knew what you were doing or not, i just hope a DM was watching cos they a been in stitches, specially with the slip going over the chessboard. We made a real good team, you let me stand back and shout abuse while you hacked away at the undead. Definatley one o the best few hours i've spent here - really good RP, which was funny too. Those two boys are good company.
'Winks at Wulfffusss and Cull'. Hi boys ;)

Yes that was really good fun and great to meet up with with scrill, Culls really got a soft spot for that horribly evil woman.
that chess board what a laugh eh (got to remember to lock that damn cat in another room when i'm playing)
looking forward to teaming up with her again soon if i can find me way back to Tharbad :rolling:

Sauroman taking a stoll to the white city to visit an 'old friend'....

A fighter, the Knights Captain and a Hunter try to stand in his path, not sure they could repel him, but try they would. Although not able to stop him getting there (although a few crafty tricks from the ranger gave him something to think about). He was forced back at the gates finally.

Good fun, was sweating all through it. Not least as by some minor miracle I made all the saves from the 'nastier' spells he was throwing my way heh. Plus, well done to harai the hunter, who's tricks suprised even the white wizard himself I think.

Will make the old white bearded git think twice before trying that walk again :)

I'd like to praise the three characters who actually took time to RP and interact with a pair of characters who (because of the game engine) where really kinda obviously half-orcs.

As the game engine makes a half orc much bigger than anything else, yuo can tell who is one at a glance, and often this means this is the end of any Rp towards them - thankfully this was not the case today.

Two half-orcs were in tharbad in disguise. They were wearing normal clothes and hoods, claimin' to be farmers. Now unfortunately these two orcs - or Farmers Bub and Bob as they claimed to be- aren't very intelligent and ended up pulling holes in their own cover. Howvere despite the fact that due to the game engine graphics they were obviously half-orcs, Vylenthra, Gloisin and Vinduil took the time to RP with them. Questioning them about farming, and picking up on every slip made - they seemed to suspect all was not as Bob and Bub claimed when the two 'farmers' talked of milking pigs and using them to pull ploughs. The two farmers made more and more slips as the conversation went on, but I felt the other three played it superbly, never accusing of anything, but digging big holes into their cover stories. So on behalf of Bub and Bob, two farmers oo ar, good with farms and stuff - a big thankyou to Vylenthra, Gloisin and Vinduil for some great roleplaying.

Well that was a good day :D

Due to an unforseen coincidence two parties one good and one evil met and fought in Dunharrow. That encounter sparked of a long piece of adlib adventuring to get one character cured of an "unnatural wounding" sustained in the Paths of the Dead.

The good players victorious at Dunharrow went to bring news of the attempted incursion to Meduseld. While there Eomer suggested that Arathai and Vinduil seek the ranger called Strider, who may have healing skills. They went to the camp and were directed to The Prancing Pony in Bree, Bence said that Strider had "business" there with a "contact". Mr. Butterburr made them welcome (wasted their time oblivious of the fact that Arathai was on his last legs the well meaning buffoon) until the Ranger arrived. Strider sent Vinduil to gather a herb in the marshes for the cure for Arathai. This done he told the pair that the Dunedain may call on their aid in the future.

Meanwhile in Isengard the evil party organise a retalliation against the Rohirrim who had help from the Allies last time. At the behest of Saruman, with two elite Uruks in the vanguard they assault the stronghold with its reinforcements sent by Eomer following the earlier raid. With evidence of victory after a brutal battle the forces of evil return victorious.

Later... The ranger, Strider, gets a tip-off that Uruks had massed in Dunland (and worse heh heh) and leads the allies to slay the foemen... A mayhem of blood, flame and steel ensued with a final battle between the allies and the Uruks and a mighty Olog-hai of Mordor. A gatekeeper from Isengard showed up for a hell of a showdown with Strider. :)

Well RPed by all concerned in each faction... We really appreciate the efforts you all put in... Arathai, Vinduil, Vylenthria, Tyrion, Gloisin, Dove, Shan, Scrill, Rurrk (gud Uruk dat), Belicose, Cullkett, Hugh Beringar, Kha-Khazaldor, Coldbayne's character whose name i bloody well cant recall at this very moment (sorry) and famous Jade Mordigan of the Knights of Gondor whowas present at the initial set to in Dunharrow. Also big thanks to DMs Lorien and Manwe who made it all happen...

Busy day... Knackered now...

Yep gotto say it has been a wonderfull day with all the rp going around ;) .Been enjoying the whole day though what got me to laugh most was the business about mr Butterman and Strider. Was starting to wonder if i had to die before he told me where Strider could be found :) But then just after i fell down on the floor he casually says that mr Strider is sitting in the next room... :dead:

Have to say thanks to all the dms today and all the players making it the best server to play on right now. Well that's all for tonight.

Big thanks to everyone involved in the 'incident' in Tharbad that saw Tyrion accussed of Murder by the Watch.

With the screams of the dying commoner still echoing around the Docks.

'There were definatly more watchmen there than on a normal day which was strange' remarked Tyrions companion.

The Watch provided. ahem... sorry found evidence - a lock of elven hair on the body of the victim and several watchmen claimed to have seen the warrior loose his senses a kill the comoner.
(all new gaurds even the Mayor didnt recognise them..)
'Hes been at the Ale again!'
'Six Bells and Tyrion has Murdered again'
These new Watchmen were relentless in there persuit of the accussed.
Witnesses were found and statements were taken.

Was it Tyrion?
Do the real authorities care?
Why is always raining?
And when will the musician in the Greyflood tavern learn a new tune...?

None of these questions were answered, but what great fun. Everyone involved rp very well, Tyrion bushwacked and indignant, and jaded towards the authorities in Tharbad, those 'ahem' ...new watchmen up from Bree, but the biggest thanks of all has to go the DM.
Who coped with all the ensuing chaos caused by three villians very well and of the cuff to boot! And that cant be easy becuase I cant spell properly at the best of times, let alone half cut at midnight and being only one of at least half a dozen sending tells/talking/accusing/bribing etc....

Another fine example of why this is the best server!

Thank you everyone

What can I say...the DM's have done it again. The Ulruk attack on Dunharrow was well executed with an atmospheric build up of an approaching army.
There was a mix of high and low level characters in the party, but combat was something all could participate in.

Dove thought we were coping quite well with wave after wave of Uruk footsoldiers. The Marshal from Rohan issuing orders to fall back and hold the next barricade...then through the smoke and confusion of battle, the unmistakable form of a wizard dressed in white appeared...Saruman!
The party fought on...the Rohirrim soldiers fought and fell, axes swung, swords struck shields and arrows and crossbow bolts took flight.
Dark magics filled the air as the white wizard advanced forward, another barrier breached...then as quick as it started silence fell on the field, Saruman stood alone, defiant but confident, Uruks bodies strew about with those of the brave Dunharrow soldiers.
Facing him was the Rohan Marshall and the walking wounded of the defending party. We stood waiting for some evil magics to slay us all in an instant.....
Then Saruman annouced his intention to advance no further and turned around, leaving the battlefield in a blink of an eye.
A sweet victory.. :lips:

Well done to all. I really enjoyed this one!

i fully agree! what pleased me most was being in battle with eomer, marshall of the riddermark himself.
all the evening has been so great. after the battle of dunharrow we had a nice rp-ed tavern-discussion about the fight with gloisin berrethor, dove and yushmar. other pc came and wanted to hear the stories about the battle. very nice indeed!

the following moria-episode was great fun too. as everybody except veld was about level 7, this was very very scary! thanks to everybody involved!

actually this was one of my best days on the server!

sorry yushmar and i just disappeared in the end. we were playing in a LAN so we both were off. there is internet-trouble all over germany today. as i am one of the few cable-users in this country, i thought i wasn't effected by this, but as it seems i am.

Heh, I had to play it carefully with saruman. He was much to powerful for a full on fight with you all, so I made him target the enemy npcs and the occasional player with his lighter damage spells.

Though he did kill one player. Casted an energy drain and took 4 levels off a player which reduce him to 0 :P oops :)

It looked like everyone was really enjoying themselves to me, and other DM's remarked this too. 4 dm's worked onthis event .

Yes, the Inn-episode was fun.

Aviel and Lorinol were most foully assaulted by ornery drunken dwarves and abused by a garrulous run-down barkeep. And for what reason? For refusing to turn poor Tojan out of the inn at the abusive grunts of a barkeep and the growled demands of a drunken dwarf.

Tojan (my cat) likes his milk you see. And he has always been welcome in the Prancing Pony. Dwarves or no. And has been served milk by Butterburr himself! On the premisses!

So of course we didn't turn him out when those low-lives took it into their collective heads to make trouble over him!
And true to nature the drunken dwarves resorted to violence. Which we answered in kind, but lost due to us not being prepared for it. The worst thing was that those miscreants maneged to sic everyone on to us, and even to blacken us in the eyes of Butterburr and the Harry Chief Watchman ...

Bah. Drunken Dwarves and weak-minded mean-spirited humans. What could we expect? I have come to gain more first-hand experience of Aviel's earlier predicaments than I had expected.

Many thanks to Yusha for valiantly standing up for us (without becoming embroiled in the conflict).

OOC.
And well done and thanks to the DM for staging the incident :-) Although lest you forget: remaining IC is not the same as "following the script the DM seems to have in mind".

Big thanks to Olórin for running around madly as many many cats :D Don't think I've ever laughed so much, nor do I think Vinduil will forget his cow milking skills too quickly, especially since Vyl likely won't let him ;)

Great fun!

And quite a spooky paths of the dead afterwards, I must say.. Damn that skellie and its disappearing tricks!

But most of all, all hail Vinduil, Royal Milk Maid of Edoras :E *bows*

Ptolomy
15-01-2005, 12:27
Animals of all kinds seem to be able to take particular delight in *****ing the ballon of Vinduil's fussiness and vanity! He wont be in a hurry to write any epic songs about milking a cow with an untrapped wind problem in his brand new fancy gear. Great machine at Lagnar's by the way, does it do dry cleaning? As a result of which he is now the laughing stock of Edoras (who knew Captain Hama was a gossip?) except with the local cats of course who will no doubt be keeping an eager watch for him at the gates.

Both to avoid the embarassment of being sniggered at by every stablehand in town and further harassment by the local felines Vinduil will be entering Edoras in heavy disguise for a while, unless that title is made official in which case it might just appeal to his ego enough (joking please don't change his name)!

Thank you very much to Olorin (henceforth known as DM Cow) for playing more or less every living creature in Edoras so well and to Vylenthra (grr the trouble you get Vin into!), Gloisin (don't worry I wont tell the lads), Dove and Arathai for playing along with such good humour. The Morilóki is a much misunderstood and sadly maligned creature.

Shadow Drakes would eat their own young if they were capable of normal reproduction, but thats because they get so much abuse from uncaring "bold" adventurers (and because the Lurker in the Depths has Shadow Eaten them into a blackness on the other side of insanity and writhes inside them). If you were nice to them and sent them chocolates, in time they would become exemplory pillars of the Middle Earth Deep Dark community, patrons of the arts, doers of great philanthropic works, but no...

Its hack, slay, and Tom Bombadil's your uncle... *sigh* will they never understand....

Well I have to say I've been particularly impressed with the people who've taken part in my events of the past week. These were 'The Ents', 'Stealing from the Dunedain', 'The Stolen Sword' and 'Assination/Subterfuge'.

All four of these events ahve been about RP rather than figting and everyone involved has risen to the occasion. I've been particularly impressed by the evil players, who've had to use cunning and disguises a lot and have RP'd this very well.

I will be running more of these story driven quests, and will hopefully soon post some guidelines. One things I will ask here though - if you're in one of these events - as much as possible please stay in one area - especially if you're going to be talking to NPC's - Lord of Dreams I may be, but able to be in two places at once? Not a chance.

Thanks again to everyone who took part great RP all round.

Mallick Rhyme, my name I say,
twas good to fight the other day,
with a warrior's aid did fight,
a dwarven axe swung with might,
so it seems short in time, when even the dwarf began to rhyme,
when speaking in verse can be quite hard, when mistaken for a Bard!

A bit of a challenge to play this character, but I am getting into it
First time playing a wizard, so please be patient if I seem a little tongue tied.

Dove will still be around I am sure.

Praise and thanks to Frogo Bolger, a young hobbit who really impressed me. I'm pretty sure he's a new player, but his roleplay is fantastic. He helped me flesh out the background of one of my new characters through the interaction with him, and showed most commendable patience and understanding.

We were in a party of 4, but two of us couldn't be bothered to go slowly and walk for me (well, for my character), so they ran off ahead and started doing the quest. I left the party and started talking to Frogo, and only after a while did I realise he'd left the party as well - i.e. he'd decided not to take the free xp of our ex-party members killing goblins, which in itself must have been quite a temptation. We then talked for close to an hour and travelled together for a bit. I don't know if you read the forums, mate, but if you do - I'm really looking forward to seeing you again.

Oh -- and thanks to Lorien for jumping in and giving us a helping hand with the campfire - neither of us could damage it :)

*Mallick bows in gratitude*

Though his rhyming is only thought out when others rp along and give him time to think of them.

So I say well done to all he meets, it is not very often he is stuck for something to say, even if it does take a while to think of a verse or two.

My respect to all who put up with him

Once more, I want to express my appreciation of Frogo Bolger, a young hobbit, and quite possibly one of the best role-players on the server -- no offence to any established chars, of course. :)

Walking with him is so much like actually meeting a young inexperienced hobbit that it has opened my eyes to the wonders in the world once again - the terror of walking dead, the beauty of elves, the "mundaneness" of the Shire and Bree... I can only recommend you talk to him if you should meet him. :)

I'd like to take my hat off to Mallick Rhyme. He is a thoroughly original character that must pose a huge challenge to his player which is met and overcome simply brilliantly. I really enjoyed talking to him in Edoras this evening and found the contrast between the sadness of Mallick and the light-heartedness of Leva truly poignant. Very well done!

Big thanks to Urrurz, Vunak & Krak for accompanying me (or rather Alyssandra) on my first time through Saruman's dream quest - Krak for his grumpy orc, Vunak for his slightly hasty one & Urrurz for not doing something nasty in his armour :)

Anyone who's ever met one of my char's knows I'm not exactly one for bashing through things to get a quest done, I like to enjoy myself a little and explore everything - not that I don't enjoy an occasional bash through things, it just has a time and a place - and these guys gave me that space and didn't complain a bit.

Much appreciated guys :) It meant I got to see what a nice quest it is too - whoever thought of that one, thanks & praise to you too! :)

Well over the last few weeks, I can say that the level of roleplay, in my opinion, has increased greatly.
It just seems second nature to me to get into my character as soon as I log in.
I would say that is due to all the good RP ers about on this server

So hats off to you all, and special thanks from Mallick Rhyme.

Oh I don't know Negnus has at least three tactics there's:

1) CHARGE!!
2) MAD CHARGE!!
and of course
3) CHARGE -EVERYONE DEAD? MORE CHARGING!!

Mind you that may be why he dies from time to time.

Gloin
15-02-2005, 10:37
*chuckles* Inappropriate generalisations here... Erin's a dwarf. When's the last time he was seen charging at an enemy? Well, ok, so he does it from time to time if he has to protect an even weaker party member... but then he charges at his own pace.. which still makes him look rather stationary. :-)

He's quite happy to leave the proper charging to others... and reminisce about his youth as the battle wages around him. Probably complaining that he would've done it much better.

ghost81
15-02-2005, 11:40
Actually Negnus and Lolinus have both been known to stand and throw axes (admittedly when there is no way of charging the enemy), but Negnus does also have the tactic 'CHARGE AND PLANT FEET' but he's now used to using it yet as he only just made Dwarven Defender.

DM_Kev
15-02-2005, 12:41

Thanks for your kind compliments, dsan and SNarfel ! Dsan, you were just as good yourself that night... I think John Rhys-Davies will face stiff competition if anyone ever decides to make a sequel/ prequel to LotR (Eru forbid !... such blasphemy!)

Although I have been playing here for only about a week, I think it is long enough to give praise to the server, its builders and players. It is easily the most authentic and faithful middle earth nwn server and I have been to most I think. Right from the start on logging in, the welcoming instructions and the library sets the tone which is nice. I hate downloading hak-paks but in this case... its absolutely worth it with the custom classes. I just hope there'll be a ShieldMaiden of Rohan with the next update ! The abundance of NPC quests, attention to detail and the Shire... no wonder hobbits never leave home... I wouldn't either if I lived there !

And most of the players I have met have been great. It'll be rude to specifically name anyone cos I'll inevitably leave someone out but you know who you are... so here's a big Thanks for making a new player feel most welcome !

Yes, that was the best trip through Eregion I ever got to experience. Even though it was hard on Teclis, it was great knowing that each time you rested you would either be woken up by shadows or have to buff everyone in the middle of a battle. After a while you learn to expect the spawns in certain places, but when they appear from behind you when you least expect it the experience is much more real. Several of our companions had never been there before, and I hope it is a trip to remember. I went through 50+ healing kits on that trip and it was worth it.

Also some of the monsters we fought were great. I hope to see more deep orcs and trolls in the enrichment.

I have to agree with Shiryu, the DMs work is in fact a great one! I really WAS scared when darkness fell down in the depths of Moria, though I am usually able to keep myself calm at most times.

I've briefly tried out a few other supposed "roleplay" servers recently (don't kill my chars.. i had to see for myself) and i reckon most players here and especially the module creators/dev team/dm's are truly remarkable... someone said "stellar level of roleplay" on another thread (maybe wyrmwrath); i dont think this goes far enough, mate!!!!

I haven't taken part in any DM quests, but from what I hear they are quite good. I look forward to being a part of one soon. On the note of that, I thought of a really cool idea that could 'spark up' and add effect to the quests.

Movies.

I've had HotU for almost a year now, and just recently I played through the single player campaign. Man, is it ever good!! The scripts are absolutely incredible, and the story is really well thought out. But one of the coolest features are the movie files they have and neato scripts included. If a cool movie script was inserted on entry to a place like Silverdelve which is closed off and a lot of people are present, you could have something like an overview of the enemies, or perhaps a dwarf coming up to you and greeting you. This could also be used in the local vault servers Kev mentioned in a thread awhile ago (by the way, I am really looking forward to those :)). Just an idea, but I think it would be really cool. And if MERP is down some day and you are completely bored w/ nothing to do, try loading up the HotU campaign. It is excellent!

DM_Kev
15-03-2005, 22:31
Yes the HOTU campaign is excellent. Id love to use cut scenes, but as far as i can tell, they only work for single characters, not parties :( Maybe there is a way, but i havent any idea.

Silverleaf
16-03-2005, 19:06

Here's something interesting I found..

EffectCutsceneDominated
EffectCutsceneGhost

*Opens up the SoU campaign*

Let's see...

Damn! Well, the script was too big to post, so I'll just tell you the steps you need to take to find it and look at it.

Open up the nwm folder in your NwN directory and copy the file XP1-Chapter 1.nwm to the modules folder. Next, change the extension of the file from .nwm to .mod. Right-click on the file and select properties, and turn off Read only. Now use the toolset to open up XP1-Chapter 1.mod and go into the Script editor. Find the script q1a_cut1start. This is the script that creates the battle of Drogan slaughtering the kobolds that rush at him.

Lorien
16-03-2005, 19:44

I'd just like to say thanks and well done to the two orcs I travelled with earlier - Mord and somthing beginning with 'G' I think it was. That was very good fun, and it was great to see others roleplaying orcs as unintelligent killing machines - a stereotype maybe - but fairly accurate in a Tolkien setting as they have been bred for war.

As this is one of my first evil characters it made this all the more enjoyable - so I hope to meet some moer 'evils' on Tan's travels and to have some more fun RP.

Just want to praise ever improving roleplay. I was on earlier with a couple of other characters and we were doing the hobgoblins in Weathertop. Now I know two of us have done it with different characters but we all played it as if new. We examined the deserted campsite. Discussed how it wasn't long deserted. I searched for tracks but being a monk with low search found none, however the group ranger (with a high search) RP'd finding the tracks, although mentioning it was tricky because of the rain and then tracked them (with a few mistakes) to the Hobgoblins. This kind of roleplaying is what I like to see, people taking notice of their character sheets and skill scores and using this to influence what their characetr can and can't do in game.

I hope to see more of this soon, then I may get to start using my DM xp tokens.

Praise to everybody who keeps the 'greyflood murder' tale roling..

it's so nice to have to be diguised in tharbad and try to do everything that the 'orange man' once will go shopping there without any fear to get mobbed imprisoned....

so as my time is very rare atm before today i was playing the last time when the whole 'joke' happened

thank you for that memorial stone placed in front of the city hall..

Yűshmar was shocked that there were three victims...

i was totally happy to see that nearly everybody still kepps this roling..that's great time for RP (not meant narcisticly)

so

THANK YOU

The one outside the city hall is to do with the Tyrion 'murder' issue.

ah excuse me... :) i am narcistic hehe

olorin just told me he put some placeables or something else there after the Yűshmar/Akbar murder issue so i expected that. (maybe was blind before:))

Anyway thanks to everybody who played or will be playing any role in this issue

(maybe there could be another memorial stone or something else? how about a wanted description set at the poste or otherwhere - in general case not only in this prosecution; hey i am not narcistic)

the items i placed on the day would be gone after the next reset.

ah excuse me... i am narcistic hehe

Well I wouldn't know, that word doesn't seem to be in the english dictionary, unless you are referring to narcissism - An abnormal love and admiration for oneself.

aye that it was...

thanks for your correction - perhaps i only appear like a drunken fool cause i am writing sometimes instantly in a foreign language :)

@olorin: ysou told me that the items will disappear after the next reset and me fool had to log out and with rare time was only able to return after a week - so i havent seen them ;(

therefor i thought a memorial stone was placed there permanently (is that narcissim?:))

*slaps himself for not posting the whole story at the 'what's going around in arda' post* yet (maybe prophet ang guyror could help me or just kick my a**) - but my time is rare and i am often to shy to write longer stories in English where my anticipation is high... *shaming*

thanks for your patience especially at language issues another time - this server is really international as everybody with a lack of language gets his chance to explain and learn

last but not least a praise to the whole community and its atmosphere

I'd like to mention the main actors in the Yűshmar the Traitor-drama that happened last night (see the What's Going On thread) --- Yűshmar and Akbar.

It's nice to see that players don't get into the mindset of "let's wait for the DMs to entertain us and do events". It actually felt like *they* did an event for *us* -- I came on and was asked if I could help out a little bit -- and I, for one, really enjoyed that -- thanks, guys :)

It's been an eventful day :)

First, a certain guardsman who abused his position to make some extra money.

The animals in Tolfalas acted even more strangely than usual
and there seemed to be much more of them.

Last, but not least, the mission from Denethor,
with all the variations to the mission - what can I say it's been fun :D

Argh, damm you Sam, you beat me to it...

Well done, to all the DMs.

We need more of those "IMPOSSIBLE" Oloogs, to make us fell humble once more. :D

Big thanks to Aule for the best DM event I can remember! You made a trip to Tolfalas a lot of fun. Every npc along the way had their own part in the story, and the mad druid took the form of a white tiger and taunted us the whole way. Really good job, too bad only two of us were there to see it.

Hehe... Both Teclis and Amithiewiel did quite admirably, performing to the best of their abilities. :) I hope you realise such big level gaps are usually frowned upon, but I realise there was noone else on the server, so I decided to spice it up a bit. It's quite hard to judge how much to throw in when chars are of such different levels...

Incidentally, that same spiced-up Tolfalas quest was declined by a group of four 16-18-level chars the other day -- they got scared after the first increased lot of animals.. so well done for your bravery, too :)

I'm not too bothered it was only the two of you -- it's much easier to RP with each party member when the party is smaller.. I'd rather do several small-party events than one with a huge party.

Want to praise the DMs as well for spicing up what was one of the best quests I've ever been in. I'm talking about the captain's rescue of course, I'm telling you, that part on the bridge when we got surrounded by Olog-Hai AND the champion was almost TOO scary! :D

Would like to praise the rest of the party as well, of course, I think we really acted as a team for most of the quest and that's one of the reasons why we all made it back alive to tell the story.

((Sorry for the change of nick but it's just to let people know who I am in-game since I haven't used the other character for months and probably won't do anytime soon.))

Hehe.. glad you enjoyed it. I was thinking of tossing in two of the big Ologs, but fortunately didn't -- you would have been a bloody pulp in no time ;)

Some good RP from that party...

Also, some brilliant RP from Amithiewiel (and, to some extent, her group -- but they weren't the main characters) in Tharbad, trying to get information about the mayor.

Unfortunately, the attempt was foiled by the Valar themselves (i.e. I crashed rather seriously just as the information was about to be given), and I couldn't get back in time to keep the RP moment. Sorry for that. :)

It's amazing what a few pints of brew and a sexy outfit can get you ;)

Although being as sweet as she is, she's feeling somewhat guilty about using Dorian the Tharbad watchman. Poor guy, he just couldn't help himself :P

Big thanks to DM's for the Bree low level event yesterday, I realy enjoyed it a lot, I dont get to take part in many DM run events and it was realy realy appreciated.

I am going to discuss the event in another thread, but I would just like to say here how much I did actualy enjoy said event as my other post may come across as negative and that is not the intention.

Big praise to all DMs on the events of today (far too many to recall all), especialy Tharbad.

Big thanks for "Strider" for taking both of the "The Amazing Smashing Brothers" on and beating them senseless in front of 2 (perhaps... 3 :P) spectators.

I am glad I finnaly entertained a certain someone. ;)

General big thanks all around! I've never seen people so dedicated to the community. It takes a long time to get to know everyone and their stories, so well done all DMs for doing what you do :D

Special thanks to Aule ;)

Hehe.. Some quality RP tonight, from too many people to list. There was a quiet talk on the hills of the south Tharbad road that I quite enjoyed watching, and a prolonged discussion in the Dunedain camp.. I was particularly amused by some dwarves not believing Shiryu's tales of his visit to Mordor -- can't really blame them, I don't quite believe them myself ;)

Later on, a walk through the shire by two elves... I know there are no quests in those areas yet, but they're beautiful, and it was good to see people making use of them. Hope you enjoyed the little bits of hobbit conversation, guys :)
