Hi all, a very brief update here:

As I don't have time at the moment, I'm halting any further high level quests. This means that the one I was working on has been stopped at half completion for now. I will try and complete it in a few weeks time.

Instead, I will be working on some other updates which can be read about in the newsletter I've attached to this post.

Some other updates are in though:

- New look Ithilien Rangers

- Some rebalancing of NPCs

- Some small fixes and changes

Community Newsletter March - April

Hi everyone,

It's been another busy month or so. Much more has been added to the module, particularly in the fixing and enhancements department. More of this is to come over the coming weeks. Tasks within the development team have been swapped around a bit and re-prioritised due to some personal changes, particularly for me.

On Sunday 26th February at 11:02 am, my daughter Jasmine was born. The bulk of my time is now currently consumed attending to her and working - this means I won't be involved in any large projects for the time being. Naturally though, I will still be contributing here and there with some exciting content.

So what's happening over the coming weeks and months?

- I will be tinkering with low level areas; Adding more activities (including quests), personalising them more, developing NPCs and areas. The main goal of my project is to add more to the module without making a large amount of new areas. I'll be using existing areas on thewhole, and spicing them up even more. This project has no completion date - it's something i'll be chipping away at whenever I have time. Updates will be made whenever I have a 'complete' set of changes.

- DM Olorin is headlining the major updates with a regenerated and expanded Tharbad. The new Tharbad will use existing NPCs and activities along with a whole host of new exciting content. For those of you who know of Olorin's other works, you won't be dissapointed.

- DM Lorien is continuing with his work on Lothlorien and small updates to the module.

- Avalyn/Ulmo and Barking Mad are working on the final stages of the PRC due for release soon.

- DM Tulkas is working on improvements and developments to Minas Tirith and Gondor.

- Ptolomy is working on improvements and developments to Rivendel.

As always, discussions and detailed news are available on our forum. In the meantime, i'd like to wish you all the best and continued enjoymment of Untold Tales of Tolkien.

The latest update is now live! Changes include:

- An all new Tharbad and Greater Minhiriath region by Olorin. This project is the result of months and months of dedicated work by our most prolific and skilled builder. It is, in my view, his most impressive contribution to date and lets hope it wont be the last! I will leave it to Olorin to post a description of any details he sees fit to and otherwise up to you to discover, enjoy.

- A much smaller and less polished or detailed wilderness project by myself. This includes a reworking of three neighbouring central regions: Rhudaur, the Misty Mountains and the Vales of the Anduin. This is an ongoing project with caves and further details (such as a travelling conditions script) to be added soon. Please do take care when travelling in the high mountains, the locals aren't very friendly!

- A revised and improved crafting machine system by Aiwendil. This includes a machine to strip the properties from items you want to use as a base for transferring new properties onto which will save us all much time and annoyance recrafting items when we've bought a new and improved versioon, very handy.

- Curumo has produced a fantastic range of items in the field of herbs, potions and healing kits. These will eventually form the basis of a regionalised herbalism crafting system but for now are available from a few likely local suppliers. More of these merchants will be rolled out very soon. One of the more 'hard to find' areas in Tharbad, I won't say which, was built by Curumo which is his first area area for the module. It is a great first contribution in this department and I know there are more in progress now he's wetted his appetite with this!

- Avalyn has produced a magnificent guildhall in Tharbad for his ongoing Silversword's saga, visit the main entrance hall to read details of this enthralling dynastic tale. Those mercenaries interested in joining should look out for old Bereval in-game or otherwise contact Avalyn.

- Various contributors, but overwhelmingly Olorin, have added significantly to the pallette of items available (armours particularly). Some of these new items are already available from NPC merchants but we also hope to put more of them 'on the market' very soon with further revisions to merchants across the module.

That is a brief summary of more or less all the major changes, I think. If I've left anything out or got anything wrong, apologies to those concerned!

I'd like to stress that we see this update as work in progress. There are areas which we'd like to add more detail to, particularly in terms of new quests and non-quest activities, and we will be doing so on an on-going basis. However, after much debate within the team, we agreed that it would be better to put out the content we have rather than hold so much that is ready back in an attempt to get things just perfect.

So there are areas that may seem a little underdeveloped (eg NPCs with limited dialogues and cave entrances going nowhere) and there will no doubt be bugs and errors aplenty. We will address these issues going forward as and when time permits but, in the mean time, I really do hope that you enjoy all that the content which is now on-line has to offer.

I'd like to end by voicing my personal thanks to and admiration for Olorin. His dedication to this community and the outstanding level of his contributions are, quite simply, second to none! He has taught me everything I know about modding (well almost ;) ) and served as a great inspiration to myself, the rest of the Dev team and many players (in many ways but perhaps most relevantly here) to always strive towards achieving our very best.

Congratulations on another fantastic contribution, I salute you sir! :)

An update with some minor tweaks will go live at the next reset.

One thing which will effect everyone is the changes to the conversations on the portals in the Halls of Waiting. These will now offer slightly different options at different levels depending on the character's race and guild membership.

Basically, areas associated with particular races will become available earlier to characters of those races than to others: Erebor for dwarves, Minas Tirith for men, Mordor for orcs etc. Also, members of all the current guilds will now be able to start in the relevant areas.

We are also planning to release an update with quite a lot of new content in about a week's time. Watch this space for more details.

I am sorry not to have been in game that much of late, most of my UTT-time has been taken up in the toolset. Once the next update is out, I plan to get back to running events and generally loafing around in-game as a DM.

We have waited a long time for a riding system to be developed that looked good enough and functioned well enough to include in UTT. I am therefore very pleased to annouce that, with the last update, we have introduced the system for riding horses included in the CEP2.

We have changed a few features and left out some of the available options, for now at least. We also plan to customise it further in the future to deal with various problems but, as it is implemented, it should still add a great deal to the game.

Enjoy! (http://forums.wireplay.co.uk/showthread.php?p=3287473#post3287473) :)

Olórin Scrawls a Message...

Welcome to the latest update for UTT2. The following new/improved features go live here and now...

- The Lake Long area, Esgaroth and its interiors have had a substantial revamp and now include a new look Laketown and lakeshore areas from the banks of the Celduin to the Lonely Mountain.

- Umbar has had a bit of a facelift and a few new minor merchants added. This work stemmed from the addition of guild areas and things... ahem... rather snowballed. The city now has a more southerly look and feel and introduces placables and features that we didnt have access to a year ago. Hopefully you should be able to step out of the Iron Anchor and know that you are in tropical latitudes.

- The route north of Umbar now features a more accurate geography and the transitions have been re threaded to accomodate this. We have plans to continue this sort of work into the eastern borders of Gondor and maybe beyond.

- On that note, more changes to come in the Ithilien, Pelennor Fields, Rammas Echor, and Ephel Duath areas soon...

- Thranduil's Halls in Northern Mirkwood, coming soon courtesy of DM Unien! Looking forward to that!

- Fixes to Tharbad quests: The Spiders in the Walls, a dangerous crawl into Old Tharbad's underbelly. Helping Hector and Helping Penbroome a couple of simple non-combat tasks with some entertaining characters.

- Horse merchants added in Bree, Waymeet and Umbar. More to come soon in Minas Tirith, Edoras (obviously) and elsehwhere...

- Work continues apace on our NWN2 - UTT3 project. The itemset is in place along with several multi-threaded quests. Work on the detailed crafting system and customised feats, classes, races and sub-races is well under way. Keep an eye on the NWN2 threads on our forums and DM Kev will do his level best to keep you up to speed.

Kindest regards,
Olórin

To those that are still awaiting Thranduil's kingdom. I am currently undergoing the painful process of learning how much I have to learn but if all goes well it should be in by next weekend. I shall post this as a bit of a tease for the time being.

Thranduil's Halls are now online, thanks to Uinen for all the hard work. These will no doubt be developed further with new quests and other activities but for now fill an important hole in our map and provide a home for our woodelf characters and beautiful setting for everyone to RP with.

Also included in this update is an area for Dagorlad by Olorin and the Brownlands by yours truly. For a discussion of how these fit in, please see here (http://forums.wireplay.co.uk/showpost.php?p=3289465&postcount=1).
