View Full Version : Quick merchant changes/fixes
Ok, lets kick this player liasion service off.
A common issue brought to us by players is stores not selling x item or things we have overlooked with them.
So please use this thread to bring 'quick to fix' issues with merchants to our attention.
Good examples of things we are looking for:
I've noticed this dwarven merchant in x place is not selling battle axes. Any chance of adding them to the inventory?
I've noticed that x store does not have a clean up script.
x store is selling this old/illegal item
Remember that we need quick, easy things to change/add/whatever. The player liasion service is intended to be a 'rapid response' development team. Leave more complex, time consuming things for another thread please.
Please bear in mind our regionalisation system with regards to the range of items in merchants inventories.
We are gradually implementing a system of regionalisation in stores whereby the inventory consists of items which we feel would be found in that region. Certain regions will not sell certain items, but will produce some items of which are of a higher quality than the standard you may usually expect. Rohan blacksmiths will sell higher quality spears, for instance. Lorien will produce better quality bows. (This is still very much in implementation)
So in general, crude weapons would not be found in the more 'civilised' areas. They would generally stick to sword and spear type weapons.
Feel free to enquire, but often if an item type isnt available, its due to regionalisation. Thats not to say we haven't overlooked, so as I say, feel free to enquire anyway.

Yes it is, hopefully once the holidays are over I should get the Lothlorien shops up and running properly.

I have been developing an extensive range of regional items for Mithlond and its neighboring regiona od Harlindon and Forlindon, which are also under development. Mithlond is well underway.
Some of the items are unique to particular merchants and all have as Elven a flavour as possible where appropriate. Some are class/alignment/race specific items.
I have plans for similar Dwarfish material for Erebor and also an additional smaller Dwarven Hall elsewhere *winks*.

One merchant item improvement that might be very quick-to-deploy but deliver relatively high shopping convenience is Eddie the Elf's idea from sometime back to deploy both stacks of healing kits (buy 10 at a time) and also assorted qualities of healing kits (buy +1s wherever +3s are sold, +1s and +3s wherever +6s are sold). Assuming there is no regionalisation intended for this particular item, I agree with Eddie that, even more than other items (like potions and scrolls), healing kits are bought in quantities and in various potencies.
Unless there are specific RP reasons builders have to limit them (which obviously trump this suggestion), further review should also be conducted to consider which major shopping districts that currently lack healing kits might well take up that line of business: Dando in the Shire, the tailor in Rivendell, the store in Esgaroth, the merchant in Erebor, and the store in Edoras, being a few.
I'll continue to dig through the suggestions that have cropped up in various bug-list and past improvement threads, and act as player advocate where ideas with merit have not yet been implemented! Players, feel free to help me out in this!

On the stacking issue, I don't really have a view. However I do see Rivendell as a centre of healing lore so I thought I'd point out the healing services available since recent updates.
The healers in Rivendell are in the guesthouse where healing supplies are available from Ithilnen. These include both standard healing kits and potions as well as Miruvor potions which cast healing spells at higher levels than standard ones.
**spoiler for some**
If your character is diseased, poisoned or drained in any way they can buy, bluff or persuade Ithilnen into giving them the key for upstairs. Using the rooms there will cure you of all maladies after a slightly longer than normal 'rest'.
On the stackable front, healing kits area available in stacks of 10 from Lothlorien - although I must double check that they have an unlimited supply.

Oops, wrong thread.
This could be the regionalization thing but the dwarven smith in Bree does not stock up on warhammers. Might be nice to see some there.

There seems to be a lack of healing kits in Edoras :santa:

Poison should be available from the merchant in Tharbad who buys and sells illegal goods.

The elven merchant Lomel in 'the shire - greenhill country - woodhall' still sells old items.
I cannot find a shop anymore that sells +3 ent skin amuletts. Can they be added to Minas Tirith where you can purchase +4 ent skin ammys?
Small request for these to be somehow refunctionalized when negotiating prices with merchants.

Let's see...Regular arrows in Tharbad, in the Esgaroth Smithy they sell a belt of the hobyltan that reads 000 and is bugged, (the amulet from the Mad Mage does the same) and a shop that sells crafting supplies! *winks*
Dol Guldor, upstairs the mage still sells a nice pretty cloak of +4 Charisma that is only usuable by those nasty elves and other despicable good creatures. Plus some Dwarven boots are also sold there.
The shifty merchant in Tharbad sells a cloak of +10 hide, that is not alignment dependant like the one in the light armour shop. An evil version I have yet to find for sale anywhere
The cloak in the Esgaroth Smithy I can deal with easily, I'll look at the Dol Goldur stores again as well, and at the cloak in Tharbad.
As for a store selling crafting supplies- at this time it aint going to happen. The original one was deliberately moved, and crafting supllies were made loot items only. As far as I am aware this is how things are to remain.

The merchant in Lothlorien who sells a stack of healing kits does not have infinite supply. The stack is only sold once.
