Deamon, bow, Loth bow, & elven bow :

Are these worth making, and same goes for fire/ice bows? I know you PVPer's likely don't care about bows, but for the PvM guys, is it worth the time to get the components, and make these? What Kind of damage do they do?

Does anyone even give a crap about bows, and are they ever used?

I like using a heavy crossbow of vanquishing. That's my bow.

BlaggOr

I like using Legolas' bow but that cant be made so in your case a Lothlorien heavycross bow, the last time i checked, killed Gandalf in abot 30 bolts. A Dragon bow is prolly the best for newer people due to it being easy to get dragons blood and rather good at raising archery.

They are rather helpful for encountering monsters such as dragons, balrogs, and other such things that toe-to-toe combat doesnt work to well for. Are they worth making? for those of us that use them it is. It all really depends on how you want to kill something. You can go with straight up magic such as fire fields and the like. I usually use both a field of some sort along with my bow. I figure while im sitting there looking stupid waiting for the beast to die, i might as well be doing something. If you dont plan on killing these things yourself, there are a fair number of us who do use em that would buy them off you if the price is right.

do any of the bows give special damage (i.e. fire bow agains ice critters, or deamon bows against demons?)
Do they in general just do more damage, or is it just a look cool facotor. I'm curious because as I rasie all my crafting skills, I want to know whats actually any good to make and sell, or for that matter, if I ever use them, what items are worth using.

pilz-e
10-01-2006, 23:35
there are no special damages associated with bows.
Personally i dont use archery but i've heard people say that the bows do more damage than standard ones.

Kebnov

Loth type bows do the most damage. Crossbows do more damage than bows, but they fire slower. So, Loth heavy crossbows would do the most single hit damage.

Scythe
11-01-2006, 08:19
All the bows you can craft are slower than, ruin or force weapons for example.

Spider6969
11-01-2006, 15:27
what would a good value on a loth heavy cross bow. well that you guys would buy anyway? and is it me or does a Elven bow seem way harder to make? 600 logs for elven & 400 dragon blood. You would think it would be a better bow.

Polak
11-01-2006, 16:15
you cant make it (at least when i tried i couldnt - 100 bowcraft and materials and only normal dragon bow)

Spider6969
11-01-2006, 16:22
you can't make the elven bow? well crap.
Web site says diffrent things :
Elven Bow 70% Bowcraft N/A 100 Pine logs, 100 Elven Feathers
Where the hell did I see 600 logs, ahhhh!!! to much beer last night, must be throwing the vision off.

pilz-e
11-01-2006, 17:40
you can make elven bows

Spider6969
11-01-2006, 18:30
are they any good? or are we talking :ripper: ?

Kebnov
11-01-2006, 19:10
i used elven bows back when i couldnt use anything better. they are decent, and realtively easy to make if you jsut kill a lot of elves.

Spider6969
11-01-2006, 19:14
yeah - sort of heard elves will own me. I'll make all the bows eventually. still working the crafter up, had to raise magery, tired of using a boat. then I'll go back to mining, tinkering, and Lumber. When those are done, carp, BS, bowcraft, and finally tailoring.

BlaggOr
11-01-2006, 19:20
Best way to get elven feathers is with a mare/maera in lorien. Or ive heard of people who have found two archers somewhere behind hythloth dungeon where they used bears, although it must of taken ages just killing two.

Spider6969
11-01-2006, 20:17
without a tamer can I even use a mare/maera? - not that I can afford to buy one from all you millionares anyway.

pilz-e
11-01-2006, 20:22
you dont need taming to use a creature, you just need taming to...tame it :)

Spider6969
11-01-2006, 20:35
So if you tamed a dragon you can transfer ownership to me with 0 taming, and I can use it, thats pretty cool....

Kebnov
11-01-2006, 20:35
ok, the best way to get thru the elves are bears, grizzlies to be specific. summon a mess of em, like 6 or so, and just sick em on the elves. They will go thru them rather easily. If the elves come in pack,s the bears will fall like dominos. still rather easy tho.

btw pilze, grats on 1600 posts
*golf clap*

Spider6969
11-01-2006, 20:53
wow, killer bears. Sounds sort of mean, poor little elves getting raped by bears. Seems sort of crule. :gnome: :camper:

Kebnov

want to make an omlette, got to break some eggs

Spider6969
11-01-2006, 20:59
well ok - Iget killing elves, how the heck would I say, own deamons or dragons? :ninja:

Kebnov
11-01-2006, 21:01
demons- fire wall works remarkably well, even on the balrog(very ironic, i know)
dragons- the easiest way is to get them to attack each other. i dont attack dragons that much, so i dont know the in's and out's all that well.

Spider6969
11-01-2006, 21:05
fire wall deamons, huh - who would have thunk it:confused:
I guess I'll have to make a good mage for deamon slaying.
does fire wall work on fire elementals?

Kebnov
11-01-2006, 21:07
dont recall, wouldnt think so, they are easy enough as it is. I usually just drop a bear to keep em busy and pop em with my bow(which is a dragon bow btw)

Spider6969
11-01-2006, 21:12
Since your the person replying the most to me, what prices would you pay for the various bows?
is like 50K for a loth H-crossbow to much - what is a good price for elf bows, and demon bows, etc. Anyway - what would you pay. (non runic of course). Assuming you can make them runic...

Kebnov
11-01-2006, 21:18
you cant make em go runic, unless MSC has changed FireFly's code
http://forums.wireplay.co.uk/showthread.php?t=294294

anyway, pricing.
this is what Tox's Price guide circa summer 2005 says on the matter:

Bows :
Elven bow : 6000gp
Elven Crossbow : 7000gp
Elven heavy Crossbow : 9000gp

Ice Bow : 7000gp
Ice Crossbow : 8000gp
Ice Heavy Crossbow : 10000gp

Fire Bow : 8000gp
Fire Crossbow : 9000gp
Fire Heavy Crossbow : 12000gp

Dragon bow : 10000gp
Dragon Crossbow : 11000gp
Dragon Heavy Crossbow : 13000gp

Daemon Bow : 13000gp
Daemon Crossbow : 14000gp
Daemon heavy Crossbow : 18000gp

Loth Bow : 20000gp
Loth Crossbow : 22000gp
Loth Heavy Crossbow : 30000gp

Now, some of these have gone down in worth. I buy elven bows for 5k, dragons for 6-8k, and deamons for around 10k. ive seen loth bows for as low as 15k, but they are rare.

Spider6969
11-01-2006, 21:26
wow - I thought they would be worth more, but thats ok - I'll take what I can get once I can make them. I'm at like freakin 30 bow craft. Good tinkering - like 60 something (need to mine a few more days to get the ingots necessary to GM it. .
Some of these crafting skills are taking forever to train.

Kebnov
11-01-2006, 21:29
dude. i used to not macro at all. It took me months to gm blacksmithing by hand. Tinkering can be a pain in the ass. Just a thought for that, make bottles so when you want to gm alchy you will have this massive cache of bottles. makes it a lot easier and cheaper.

Spider6969
11-01-2006, 21:33
I'm going to avoid doing alchy - so lockpicks are taking awhile. Dial up does not help, along with an ocean between me and a server.

Kebnov
11-01-2006, 21:37
a good portion of hte player base is not on the same island or even same continent(because as any Brit will tell you, Britain is not part of europe) as the server.

if you actually read mscs post in that topic it states:

Ruin-Vanq...y
Bows...y
Newbied weapons...n
Regular weapons...y

In the case where you discover that you can gem a certain weapon yet it does not receive it's runic effect, you can page to get your items replaced, although I'm not aware of any weapons where this is the case.

Kebnov
11-01-2006, 22:15
hmm, havent read that thread in a while. Well, its still not a good idea to make bows runic. Bows are easily damaged and are unrepairable. may be possible, but rather dumb.

Spider6969
11-01-2006, 22:23
ok non runic - assuming I can ever get the stuff for making them runic anyway. Some day - still new to the shard, so have not done to much exploring, or PvM. Still working the crafter. And so far only told the one friend about the shard, and he also plays. Get like 4 more that I could tell about it, but I would have to convince them to stop playing the OSI shards.

pilz-e

mention that its free ;)

Spider6969
11-01-2006, 22:25

pilz-e
11-01-2006, 22:32
im sure we'll cope some how :P

Kebnov
11-01-2006, 22:41

Spider6969
11-01-2006, 22:45

Last time i set up a vendor with bows noone would buy them untill i priced them:
Fire: 5k
Ice: 5k
Deamon: 5k
Dragon: 5k
Lothlorien: 20k

these are just bows, i never sold heavy crossbows as i like to use them.

Spider6969

well I may be the most worthless player on the shard, but I'm very happy my posts in the forum can keep you entertained. :fart:

And I hope my liberal use of appropriate smilies does not drive anyone nuts. :sneaky:

Spider6969
12-01-2006, 15:22
one more thing, waiting on the extra players, one is in the hospital, and another I guess can't get on, some set up issue. So it will be a few days before the shard is bombarded with newbs.

Kebnov
12-01-2006, 15:23
its ok, pilze drowns us in smilies as well :P

Spider6969
12-01-2006, 15:27
we are all newbs at heart. Some of us just get cranky with age. Just ask my wife, I still don't know how she tolorates me.:twak:

Kebnov
12-01-2006, 15:28
dont question, just be happy that she does

Kebnov
12-01-2006, 23:33
funny, this is the thread of champions. only champions have posted here

Spider6969
12-01-2006, 23:34
champions at what - arcade games?

Goat Beater
14-01-2006, 07:03
so why do bows damage so easily? gibbors was telling me his bows that hes using were getting damaged from normal use and it was like every 10 mins.

Kebnov
14-01-2006, 08:46
the nature of them i guess. i go thru mine so fast that by the time i have enough money to buy a new one, it breaks

pilz-e
14-01-2006, 11:44
a new weapon will always damage easily when you first get it regardless of what type it is (call it 'wearing in' or something :) )

Goat Beater
16-01-2006, 23:19
yeah, buts it way too fast imo for bows. he was getting the message like every mob

Kebnov
17-01-2006, 05:42
what kind of bow he using?

Goat Beater
17-01-2006, 05:44
i know he was using dragon for one.

Kebnov
17-01-2006, 15:22
i dunno then. perhaps bad luck. Ive been using dragon bows for some time now, and they have been pretty good about lasting a while, as compared to other bows ive used.
