The past few months have been very challenging ones for our community. With a great deal of changes and many goings on. On the whole, we've all had fun (that's why we are here afterall) and the quality of work in the module and that of players roleplaying has got better and better.
I have recently been going through old logs and documents going as far back in the community as it's humble beginnings in 2003. Whilst our history has been undoubtedly a path of improvements, innovation and progress, I have noticed and got the feeling that we have deviated from what our original idea of the ambitions and core values of this community were to be. I do not know why or howthis managed to happen, but I feel that it has, and that this needs to be addressed.
Many old timers here will recall regular development meetings in our irc channel - not closed door meetings though; open, public meetings where everybody had a voice and was able to influence and see the decision making process for themselves. During this period, the majority of building work was player influenced, and the result of this process. For some reason, probably my fault, this stopped. One of the values we had concerning the project when we started was that it would be a module 'by the players for the players. So...
Public development meetings will be restarted.
Public confidence in our management of the project will be strengthened; enquries will be dealt with professionally and to the best of our ability, all documentation will be brought fully uptodate and maintained. Players will be welcomed to participate in testing of content and suggesting improvements to documentation.
We will launch a "right first time" policy for all new content. This means that all new content must be thoroughly tested by the builder and fellow staff members. We will encourage the welcoming of willing players to test new content and help us identify problems and suggest means to solve them. Builders will be encouraged to document key areas of their work so that potential high risk bug/error areas can be tested properly.
All our staff will be encouraged to learn new skills with the toolset. Guides, information and module resources will be avaialble to all staff so that they all possess the same tools and control of the modules development.
As you can see, there is a fair change in direction here. I found the community to be more fun and involving when this was the way we worked. It was the values we built this community upon.
A great deal of stress for various reasons to do with my past illnesses affected me for the last few months which definately affected the way this place was run. With the birth of my thankfully, healthy daughter, I now intend to put wrongs right now with this plan of action, restoring this community to theway it was intended to operate.
Let us put past grievances behind us and work together to build up ourcommunity and module. :)
Feel free to comment
