View Full Version : Testers needed - new spell descriptions

I have made new merpukv168.hak and merpcep2.tlk files that should hopefully update the relevant spell descriptions/names that have been disabled/changed.

I may not have got all spells yet (awaiting misterrobotos document) but I want to test what I have so far.

Initial tests indicate that you only need to update these files on your (client) side so that if you have them you get the new descriptions, but if you don't nothing is affected. This means the change is optional and not all players will see the changes, but importantly it means that there will be no disruption for any player and no update needed to the server/mod.

So I'm looking for players to test this out for me (with spell caster characters obviously). Please backup you current merpukv168.hak and merpcep2.tlk files first (copy them to a safe location) then download the file merpukfiles.zip (http://nwn.wireplay.co.uk/pages/merpukfiles.zip) and place the extracted files in the relevant folders in your NWN installation to overwrite the old files.

Try it out and let us know how it goes!

(To repeat this is probably not the final version of the tlk file but I have updated all spells to those mentioned in the manual plus one or two others I know about, there may be other changes that have not been documented fully but this will only be a matter of updating the merpcep2.tlk file as and when - if this test works. I also need to add mention of timelocked spells and possibly VFX changes, but this will come in time...)

(Also note I haven't removed any spells from the spell lists/books as this would just cause illegal character problems that's not worth it, but all disabled spells have had their names and descriptions changed to *DISABLED*.)

Works quite good for me. I now see all spell descriptions in english rather than german.

Edit: There was one Bad STRREF at the Name of the summon dagger spell (lvl1).

Okay, thanks for that. Good point about the English, that didn't even occur to me (I used *my* dialog.tlk). Luckily you find it positive :)

Well - i always had to guess when an english spell was named. Now i can look at the reference. ;)
Too bad, the scrolls don't use that tlk file although that might be not a big issue.

You know its a simple matter to convert the whole thing into English (I think). Get this http://nwdownloads.bioware.com/neverwinternights/patch/dialog/english/NWNEnglish1.68dialog.zip and replace your dialog.tlk in the root of the NWN installation.

(Back up the old one of course in case there's more to it than that, but that should do it as far as I know.)

Bad Strref names for the spells "Holy Sword" (Paladin Level 4) and Blade Thirst (Ranger Level 3). You might want to check your TLK references...

Yes I know, there are several more than that as well. I fixed them after Kyle found them, I just need to get the new files on the server. Was also waiting until I get chance to add Timestamp info.

By the way, will Timestop ever be allowed on the server? There are several great scripts at the NWVault which limit timestop to areas only, "paralyzing" all creatures except the caster.

I personally would be against it as I feel it is far too overpowered - but that's my view alone.

Not very Middle Earth is it?
