View Full Version : PvP - Important Information
The following is some important information for players on the subject of PvP (Player vs Player combat) with DM involvement.
There have been two small incidents recently involving PvP - a few people are a little unhappy for reasons I won't go into here.
I'd like to point out that the frequency of these incidents is very small and that two happening in one week is coincidental, so I don't fear any sort of downward spiral taking place here.
Nevertheless, im now introducing a new requirement for DMs who handle PvP encounters: (This applies to DM run events only)
The DM must now get consent from all players involved before allowing PvP to take place in their events. Players who do not wish to be involved should be noted and kept out of the encounter in a suitable way.
A player vs Player encounter that takes place that is not part of a DM run event should continue as normal, following the recommended ROSE procedure.
Thanks.

Kev,
Does this cover only events where a DM knows for certain that PvP will take place or any event that a DM runs where PvP occurs as a organic development of the session?
I think it would be a shame if everytime PvP may occur in an event the DM has to go around all the players and get their ok. Kinda spoils the flow I think.
Can't the "few people who are a little unhappy" just sort it out amongst themselves rather than bring another rule in to force?
Im always unhappy, ignore me :P
With a bit of luck, this wont be necessary for long. It may just be prudent to tighten the leash a little for a couple of weeks whilst things calm down.
The main problem seems to be with higher levels standing in the way of lower levels doing their faction related quests - which can only end with one result.
If this issue manages to dissapear to my liking over the coming weeks, i'll lift this temporary restriction. If problems persist, i'll think of something more permanent and more DM friendly.
As a side note, the DM can quickly broadcast a request for a PvP yay or nay from all players involved, all players need do is respond appropriately.
DM: //PvP - yay or nay (Talk)
Player1:yay(DM/PM)
Player2:nay
Player3:yay

I for one do not think its vey fair to stop a lower lvl character of an opposing faction from completing a quest, I do however think that delaying one on a chance encounter is fine. I have on more than one occasion encountered evils killing elves in Mirkwood with Marlynna, a high lvl elven COM. I usually tell them IC to flee or I will defend my kinsmen/kinswomen, only once has this resulted in a group attacking me (which wound up costing me a few raise dead scrolls) , I also send an OOC tell saying I will leave the area shortly and will not return so that they know they can complete thier quest, anything else in my opinion would be griefing. I have probably been one of the more active players in PVP and history has shown me that unless it is planned in advance, there is almost always hard feelings, and its just not worth it. Picking on lower lvls is sad if its not genuine rp, and I think if evil the best course of action is a trivial fee to pass ( I usually ask for 100 ) or if good, demanding they flee. What do you prove by killing someone 4 or 5 lvls lower than you ?
My 2 cents

It's about the roleplay though... I've encountered orcs of a lower level than me, and gave them a chance to run before firing arrows. They ran, and had no objections. :)
