View Full Version : Crafting Questions
Not sure if this is the right area to post, but here goes.
I've been on the server now for almost a month and I've a few questions concerning crafting and feat specific crafting. Please keep in mind I've only scratched the surface of the server, having been in only 4 civilized areas (Bree, Shire, Tharbad, and Rivendall)
1. Is the "scribe scroll" feat used on the server? I took this feat at 3rd level, hoping to supplement my inventory with needed spells. In all the time I've adventured, I've yet to find/see a blank scroll. Do they exist (blank scrolls) and if so, where? I find it odd that they aren't sold at the magic shops. If they aren't implemented, then I seemed to have chosen a feat that is, well, useless to me.
2. Same goes for the empty potion bottles and bone wands. I've yet to find them or large bones. I was certainly hoping to see an empty potion bottle at the potion vendor in Tharbad, but none was there. If the scrolls, bottles, and bone wands aren't used for game balance, I understand completely.
3. Is the crafting of "normal" items available? I run across alot of bars of iron, leather patches, etc. I've never used this crafting system, but was wondering if its enabled on the server.
4. Can healing kits be crafted? If so, how?
I think thats all for now. If some of the crafters out there can provide me with some information, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks... Tark

1; The scribe scroll feat is active, and blank scrolls are available for evil characters if you know where to look.
2; It's not so much game balance as setting, as a low magic world it seems inappropriate that these items should be craftable and commonplace.
3; Click on an anvil in most blacksmiths to see the range of items you can currently make. This is keyed to level and craft armour/weapon levels so check what's listed as you level and take the skills. The only 'normal' item that can be made is full plate for which you'll need a steel bar.
4; yes, again you'll need to an alchemist's table to do (found in some magic shops) this and an ingredient list.
We use our own crafting system as others would have been inappropriate for the setting and the tendancy for players to do little else than mass production crafting, with CNR for instance.
Both potions and healing kits show up regularly in the treasure tables so if your looking to get these items for 'free' then they're already there.
1. Only evil characters?? *scratches chin* Well, as I play a non-evil druid, those blank scrolls are out of my reach it seems. Any thought on perhaps adding them to the treasure tables? That way, those spellcasters who can scribe have a glimmer of hope in finding a means of tranfering spells for their own use. Also, if this is not possible due to game balance, is there any way I can relevel my character? :) If not possible, no worries. I'll consider it my learning curve and the price of doing business.
3. Can "magic" items be made then? Say, a mithril scimitar?
4. Ok, I'll check it out, thanks.
As far as using your own crafting system, is there a post or page documenting this? I'm not planning on becoming a full time crafter, but it would be nice to see what the server has to offer in way of crafting. Plus, knowing what crafting items go with what end product would be nice. I think I remember reading a post about player crafters. Im not sure though. *shrugs*
Again, thanks for your help... Tarken

I thought there were scrolls available to good aligned as well - if not I'm fairly sure it's an oversight.
Magic items on the whole cannot not be made - i.e. with magical effects. But superior weapons can be - i.e. keen and/or good ab.
With the crafting you need to buy a blacksmiths hammer. When you click upon a crafting anvil the items you can make based on your skill will appear in the menus. More appear as your skills increase. There is no definitive guide/list and this was quite deliberate, however click on an anvil each time you increase your crafting skills and you'll see if anything else is available. If you click into any item showing you will be given a list of ingredients.

These links should provide some helpful information on our crafting systems:

In fact there are some blank scrolls for every alignment to find in a very deadly area.
But with a little luck you might encounter the travelling smith Naighîn who sells those he found in his journeys as well.
*raises eyebrow and smiles broadly*
Excellent. I'll make a note and keep an eye out for him. And perhaps we can do business over a chilled glass of dwarven ale. Or is that best served at room temperature? :)

After some discussion, we'll be making scribeable scrolls available from various NPC merchants throughout the module with the next update.

*nods* my thanks for this. I appreciate the addition to merchant stores...

I bought the alchemical equipment but can't seem to get it to work. I tried several different types of potions, including the named potions sold at various vendors, as well as many dropped by monsters. Is it skill based? I'm maxed in lore and healing. Or is it not yet fully implemented into the world? Thanks

Another crafting issue/question. I scribed 2 scrolls the other night, a first and a second level spell. XP and gold loss were expected, but not at the levels that occurred. The first level scroll cost me 50gps and 2xps. The second level scroll (bulls strength) cost a great deal more... 750gps and 30xps. The scribe scroll feat describes costs for a 1st level scroll as 25gps and 6xps with a 3rd level scroll scribed at 375gps and 15xps. Is there an intentional increase in the cost to scribe a scroll in Untold Tales? The 50 gps for a first level scroll seems fine but its a steep jump for a 2nd level scroll.
Thanks for any responses...

Any of the module builders or DMs have an answer to this one?
Or the previous post concerning scribing scrolls? Thanks :)

Research required for a helpful answer and too little time to do it at the moment, will get back to you
