Concerning craftable items
I noticed that there’s only a few items you can craft here. Is anything being done about this? I’d like to see more craftable items - not very powerful but diverse. As powerful like the ones you craft atm - +1 or +2 - but against Elves or Goblins or Dwarves.
A neat crafting mod - regarding weapons particularly - would be - if the crafter could name the weapon he forges.

Our crafting system isn't the most diverse, but there are quite a few items that you can forge, many of them with very good properties. However, you cannot craft all the items at once. The better the item, the more Craft Weapon/Armor skill ranks you'll need! And trust me, it's much more fun to craft the item yourself and discover its properties rather than have them told to you! :)

More items will appear...soon... :O

Useful script I just found on nwnvault:

http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Scripts.Detail&id=675

weapons glow when a hostile creature draws near - tips included how to modify this to make a weapon glow when a specified racial type is near - like gobs for example

==> famous elven weaponry that glows blue when orcs are near<==

It could be replaced with - light VFX instead of - silly weapon buff FX ==> (only 2 lines to modify)
==>blue light for elven weapons and red light for high lvl or epic evils!<==
what do you think fellaz?

Another in my opinion neat idea for an item ==>> dm awarded special item <<== would be a banner, an elven standard for instance (light 20m, +1 attack (bless - like effects to friendly creatures within 20 yards or more... - or some -1 low level negative effect on hostiles)

I like this idea of famous elven weapons and banners, but such weapons were extremely rare in the late third age. I do not want to see every other PC running around with glowing swords.

Meanwhile they do - Cold Iron Blade gives light as many other weapons.
But you are right - such weapons would be rare.
As I said no buff-fx would be used - instead light VFX when a specified racial type is close enough to activate it.
Then your weapon - if unsheated - would tell you if orcs/ goblins (if you're good) and elves or dwarves (to an evil character) are close...
To make things even more subtle - the light property on the weapon would be minimised (light 5 is probably the lowest stat you can give to a weapon)

I just created a presentation for builders/dms/players of the weapon script I mentioned in my previous post. The weapon only responds to a specified racial type: Orc and only if you're within 40 meters of the specified creature: Follow the link to download the presentation / script:

http://nwnpublishing.atspace.com/

Changes (can be very easily implemented) I modified the script myself a bit so the weapon reacts to orcs instead of all hostile creatures. I wonder what the bosses think? I haven't heard from them yet. I'm working on the banners now - next week I'll be on irc so you could tell me if you're interested. In the meantime I'll carry on for the fun of it!

The script as I said could be easily changed to fit evils too. It would be nice if this script could be implented to The Bane of Arnor for instance (which currently has a permanent type of glow - and that sucks). It could be changed to glow when characters of good will are close.
Make sure your character can use longswords.

Very cool.
Only problem i can see with it is that its an on heartbeat effect - which causes lag.

If these items were very limited; ie only given out as specific DM quest rewards or only have the effect on very hard to create lvl 20+ craftible items - Then i dont think there would be much of a problem.

I just wanted to attract your - admins / builders attention. I'm workin' on those banners currently so I'm sending you the link where you can find pictures of them:

http://nwnpublishing.atspace.com/ flag1 2 & 3

Gee I just finished them flags...I'm planning to do more. More orc and different men-races too. I hope you'll like them. I'm workin' on that banner script which is mentioned above!

*sonic* If anything such weapons would be rare - not craftable but DM awards I think. I don't think they'd be add a lot of lag though.

Clarification - presentation needs to be 'Saved as...' to your NWN/modules folder - it's not a video file.

Having the real ME banners would be very nice, and I think it could be used to great effect for NPCs just as well.

I've jest added extra ones. I think I could draw the missing ones - Amroth's swan - and other fancy ones. Color are much brighter than they appear on the pictures. Any good?

While I can see the benefit of adding some items for RP like banners, and different items with different appearances as well, I am hesitant to support an increase in magic items on the server. Especially not the sonic damage in any situation. This server was advertised to be low magic, and in my opinion it already has far too much. It works now, but would not want to see more.

I think he was replying to me rather than suggesting more magic sonic items.
The effect where the weapons glow adds nothing other than a visual effect.

What I suggest DMs do if they want to test the scrips it setup a small test server, have 3 or 4 of these weapons and lots of orcs then have a group of players fight the orcs and see if it lags the server too much.

I think you're all wrong.

*sonic* in my previous post was a signature left by some naughty admin after cuttin' out a piece outta my post hehe...I must have said too much about something hehe. I just added some extra textures and flags are lookin' a bit better. Check 'em. Tell me what you think. Are they completely crap?

This is the website I based them on:
http://www.midcoast.com/~martucci/flags/designs/midearth.html
*LOL*
Actually I based them on quite a few sources...but this one was the best haha!

*sonic youth*
Yeah every second player now is runnin' round with a glowing weapon - you might not have noticed Dakota...heh. Such weapons as pointed Int would be rare. Well what am I doin' explainin' stuff! It ain't my job heh. I'm only trying to be helpful to the Dev team as they're (I hear) extremely busy...so busy my goblin is still kickin' round without a description/ voiceset change :P. Get my point? *gives dms a crafty look*

If I understand the idea correctly, it's supposed to be more subtle, similar to what Bard's Song gives on lower levels - e.g. +1 attack to all allies in AoE, or -1 damage to all enemies, or SR 2 to all allies; etc, depending on the faction.

you're absolutely right Int, read clarification prior to your post

I think the glowing weapons idea... whilst it would be quite neat on another server, has no place here, since as I can recall in the whole of the Hobbit and LotR, there were only evert three weapons that glowed, and one of them is now buried very deep in Erebor...

As far as the banners go, I like the idea very much, though I'd want to do some of them myself... :) (maybe will do some today)

How do they need to be presented to go into the toolset? What dimensions, format, etc.? Keep in mind that I don't have and can't run the toolset, so I can't put them in myself, but I can digital paint well.

*has also been considering, if possible, adding some more shield textures to replace all the ugly ones that came in CEP 2*

That's a thought... someone give me a texture template for the banners, so I know the dimensions etc.

I like the banners:).

Re swords and such glowing when a foe is near; The idea is very appealing at first glance but I think small-print's case against is air tight. The only other thought I have on this is that the two weapons Orcrist and Sting are unlikely to be in active use and perhaps they can be on display IC in Erebor and Rivendell as examples of smithing skills lost to time with a breif description of the weapon and its history. I know Rivendell already has such an area where Sting could be displayed among many other artifacts. There is scope for one or two rp driven events around these two objects also I reckon but thats for another thread :)

PS. Although only three such swords are known of, they were found in the most unlikely of places; troll loot, and there is nothing to suggest against the existence of other such items, though admittedly they would be extreeeeeeemly rare finds ;), perhaps one or two such items would not be entirely inappropriate on the server.

Textures is (are) one area of the toolset I've never looked at, would it be possible to make more shield textures? (i.e. ME related ones in addition, or to replace, a lot of the unappropriate ones from CEP?)

Sonic Youth

Yeah I agree with steve. It'd be great to get some of those nice designs on sheilds aswell.

Is that possible?

First of all thank you for your kind words: Snarfel and Sonic I didn't honestly think you'll like 'em but dedicated a lot of time to textures / drawings / rewriting script tables (repetitive and confusing sometimes). I just updated the website with new images (in my signature) and added 3 more elven flags: Lothlorien, Rivendell, Greenwood. Some flags got a bit modified too. For the elven writing as specified on the website I used the online tengwar transcription source. I'm using a few photoediting programs and a graphic tablet to incorporate / draw components.

*glowing weapons* I was partied with a few evils today and 2 of them had glowing weapons. I only suggested previously mentioned script as the alternative to permanent glow - which in my opinion sux and is completely out of place - but then again opinions are different and many. Well I don't like permanently glowing weapons and would do away with them If it was up to me (even if it means fighting with an (+0 dam) ordinary longsword instead of a damage enhanced one).

*steve* yes it is possible to change shield skins too. I could even apply the banner textures to shields but haven't had the time to do this yet.

*small print* try nwnvault: use the search engine to find lisa banners - there y ou can find a blueprint and it's specs and guidance / tutorial in a txt file

I do not want to create more banners at the moment as I'm awaiting a reply from the administrative side of the server. Well I've been doing this for the fun of it but obviously I'd be happy to see those banners IG , some or all, anything but the CEP ones. The banners I published on the site are just a sample. They were made according to Tolkien heraldry sources / books so I think my represantation is quite accurate. Next task would be to diversify them - make more for different dwarf clans / orcs etc etc and missing men - races. If they attract builders' attention then I will continue with my work. They could be implemented in ME through a hak - or as blueprints / textures.

So what made me dedicate my time to this change? Well I spoke with an old player on one occasion and he said he'd happy to see ME banners but doesn't honestly believe such change will take place as builders are busy workin' on some other project and if I'd do it myself then we all stand a much better chance. So here I am offering my help.
