I've not had a great deal of play time as yet, but just wondering on first impresssions so far. What do you think of the maps?

I would say on the client side of things it's a lot more cpu intensive than other source games i've tried, so I've not really got a good impression on how the servers are playing as I have my own fps issues.

Overall it does seem like a reasonable start for the FF team, although i'm really gonna have to splash out some money and finally upgrade :(.

Awesome. Movement feels TFC-y but different in a good updated kind of way. Runs fine on my comp with gfx turned all the way up, but I do have a bit of a beast of a comp :D

Class balance seems better. Pyro and Spy are alot more effective now. Sabotaging people's sentry guns is hilarious and alot of fun to set more than one off at a time to mow down the enemy. HW Guy seems a little over powered in that his arc of fire is smaller but pretty damaging at medium to longish ranges. Concing seems fine, same as TFC.

The double jump is great, easy to do but I'm sure to use it well will take a bit of practising. Bunnyhopping is real easy now, so newbies and those who struggled before should pick it up fairly easily.

Only real complaints I have is that on maps like dustbowl, sentry guns blend in with the background, player models are hard to distinguish at medium range, and some sounds are too quiet; for example picking up the ammo / armour.

Overall it's the best release a free mod team could have ever hoped to achieve.

I had a 5 minute play before work this morning. I couldn't bunnyhop for the life of me :P I'm so stuck in my ways, I need to find out how to configure the game for weapon quick switching amongst other things.

Is there anywhere which lists what's different between TFC and FF? I didn't know you could sabotage sentries for example.

Runs fine on my mid-spec system though there was only one other person on the server :)

There's a wiki for FF but it's not open for the public yet. Soon I believe.

Also, check out the binds/commands sticky, T :)

Its out on Monday? Where? I see its out 17th Oct?

The game is ok, door bugs are a little frustrating. The maps look really good but I HATE invisible walls... I love freedom.

This game needs a strong league community before TF2 kills it.

It looks like an old Quake II mod, if I'm honest. It doesn't run well on my (more than adequate) system, even with graphics and other swish effects turned down. The fact that 2Fort wasn't released, indicates an elitism that has caused it's own downfall, even before release imo.

When it comes to success, it's all about accessability. If you release a niche product on a niche market (which tfc is), and the product needs an uber PC to run, then it is doomed to failure. Which, considering the sheer amount of love and attention that has clearly gone in to it, is an absolute shame.

Remember that TFC (in the old days) and CS were hugely successful due MAINLY to the system specs needed, as well as the great gameplay (of course). i.e. those previous games were accessible. FF is not. There are barriers that stop me having fun, even BEFORE I actually play the game. The number 1 map is not there (officially). The engine isn't optimised for lower specced PC's, thus causing huge cpu load. It just doesn't feel "right". FF doesn't seem to me to be an alternative to TFC, or an upgrade, it is just another mod.

What's also alarming are the comments on the official FF forum. People are under the impression FF failed (and it has) due to Halo 3 being released at the same time. And of course TF2. However, TF2 caters for the kiddy market (again, imo) and is not a direct threat EVEN to TFC, let alone any derivative of it. And to suggest the worlds biggest selling console game had any sort of impact on a mod (released as an upgrade to another hardly played mod), suggests delusion on a scale not seen since Hitler invaded Russia.

I gave it a go, was not impressed (despite some good points), and will thus delete it from my PC. Basically, it's way too little, way too late.
