CoDWW server using wine on debian-based systems - FPSadmin.com (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16481)

looks like people launching using wine, the debian guides should work on suse, but it isnt as simple as all that and i know theres a lot of people having troubles. i am gona test on my fedora box at home and maybe do some trialing of vmware windows to see if that works better or not.

will let you know what i find out.

I believe wine still requires you to have a windows license though.

aye, emulating through wine requires a (rather expensive) licence.

i pressume you are refering to server licenses, i have some spare oem xp pro licenses not sure we would have to run a server but i also get microsoft discounts due to my MCP and a few other work related things.
i will check what is required. there is no "no" when it comes to IT.
watch this space....

erm both completely wrong, wine is free opensource.
you might think of cedega a company that sells wine+extra's(notfree) that has some support for newer games+installers.
But wine itself is totaly free to use

wine is but does it need a windows install too?

nope, doesn't need a thing of windows to run, it's a complete independent implementation of the windows api. it can use .dll's from windows but that's not something that's used a lot anymore, older versions had more use for it.

Oh, my mistake then :P. I was refering to a licence for windows, but it seems that you dont need one of those either :P

Wine could be used to run garrysmod servers also, if you don't actually need a windows license then ++ :)
