Bernie, In his wisdom has decided that the F1 champion of 2009 will be the driver who wins the most races. the points system has been abolished forever. Interestingly, this season has 17 races, meaning that the race to the top could be over after race 9 :(

Oh ffs Bernie, you complete and utter moron. This Season of F1 is going to be the best ever, and you screw it all to Hell by introducing this.

Sigh.

Actually, you're wrong a bit, BPK. The points System still applies to Drivers 2nd and lower. Also, if there's a tie on race wins, then points decides.

It's still a crap idea, imo.

"The rest of the standings, from second to last place, will be decided by the current points system.

If two or more drivers finish the season with the same number of wins, the title will be awarded to the driver with the most points, the allocation of points being based on the existing 10, 8, 6 etc. structure. The constructors’ championship is unaffected."

[EDIT 2]
I'm so infuriated with this that I've made a Facebook Group: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=56896051129
[/EDIT 2]

[EDIT 3]
This was 'deferred' until the 2010 Championship. It's still a crap rule.

It's a crap idea and I hope it isn't implemented in 2010.

They should have just revised the points. 10-8-6 should never have occured, should have been 12-8-6 imo.
