do you have to use steam to play on the wireplay server? are there any other ways to connect?

I'm afraid the only way to join a Wireplay Left 4 Dead server is to have a fully up to date version of Left 4 Dead installed with Steam.

Once playing Left for dead, The servers can be accessed with the command sv_search_key wpl4d, or via the wpl4d Steam group.

The servers can also be accessed by connecting directly to the IPaddresses, available in the "Welcome to Wireplay Left 4 Dead" thread, here on the forums.

I can see only one server atm, its a normal campaign server. The others are not there for me. maybe its a personal issue.

The above normally does it for me, although it might be a firewall issue?

It would be great to be able too 'add up' from the Wireplay IRC channel itself (pending game) as an when needed but apparently this is not possible. Given the current traffic in the IRC channel I have to admit it hardly worth it to be honest. Your best chance of finding a free slot within a Wireplay L4D server is just to filter and join (as mentioned above) ;)

is it possible to create a game on the wireplay servers? to invite friends?

i have not yet tried the sv command james, but when i launch the game sometimes there is a listing of the servers for wireplay l4d in the bottom right corner of my screen.

The command sv_search_key_wpl4d does not work in l4d1 and l4d 2 demo

please give me the proper syntax or some advice

I've not used it myself, but you have extra underscore in what you said there. "sv_search_key wpl4d" with a space rather than an underscore at the end there might work if thats not what you were trying.
