lol at the person on the steam forums who has just moved to AUS from the UK. No L4D2 for him.

Also, do we share a timezone with france?

Australia has banned L4D2. I dont think their altered version has completed the review process yet. France is GMT+1, so no, we dont share a Timezone with them.

After the Australian Classification Review Board first refused to classify (http://kotaku.com/5361301/left-4-dead-2-banned-in-australia-%5Bupdate%5D) Valve's zombie first-person-shooter Left 4 Dead 2 (http://kotaku.com/tag/left4dead2/), Valve appealed (http://kotaku.com/5367132/valve-appeals-australia-ban-of-left-4-dead-2) the government's decision. Valve's Zombie shooter was refused classification, which means it can't be made commercially available in the country. Not quite the same as a banning, but it has the same effect.
The company's appeal to overturn the Board's earlier decision has been refused, and the original, unedited version will not be sold in Australia later this fall when the game launches there.
As Valve told us earlier (http://kotaku.com/5376731/looks-like-left-4-dead-2-is-coming-to-australia), the version of Left 4 Dead 2 submitted to the Australian government for rating is "the adjusted version." This version has been rated and will be commercially sold in Australia.
Valve's Gabe Newell told (http://kotaku.com/5375989/valve-has-edited-version-of-left-4-dead-2-for-possible-release) Kotaku Australia that this edited version, Australia-only version is "fully compliant with the guidelines" for a 15-years-old and up rating.
"We think Left 4 Dead 2 is a lot of fun," Newell said then. "It's a game for adults. But we're aware that different countries have different restrictions, and we want to make the choices that make the game the most fun for that country."

My apologies to any australians out there, apparantly you do get l4d2 after all

Some might say harsh? The objective idea is admitting your average audience for an 18 rated game includes under age players, obviously parents are not responsible enough to moderate their childrens activies 24/7 (busy lives) so 95% of the responsibility will be thrown into the lap of UK ISP's (pending Scotland). ;)

I doubt very much zombies would last long in the desert of Australia, at least not the ones that require to oil and ooze over themselves. I think the lardy, oily zombies would dry up and the bleached skin of the rest would develop melanomas and die eventually, we just pitch a tent and wait, so in effect no story line, no L4D2. If you take into account Australias more tropical, wetter areas then that could work but then the foliage, trees, water and a full rendering of sunlight would strangle my current GFX card and that would mean another upgrade.

So on one hand deep political debate and on the other a reason for not letting Zombies live down under ;)

Fraid so - it goes public on November the 3rd

Those that pre-ordered will hopefully blab all to those who didn't. Once you weed out the L4D2 boycott from disgruntled L4D fans :dozey: you are left with some great feedback. You play the demo and weigh it up, then and only then should you buy, the deciding vote is the wrath of the public? ;)

I've just changed my locale settings on my pc, to somewhere in America, restarted and voila! The demo is available. I'm off to try it, good luck!

I'm bored waiting...I wish it was true tho.
*sigh* not even worth the effort. Thought it might have at least passed an hour.

Yeah, welcome to the forums. I sadly almost thought there was a glimmer of hope and rushed to investigate this nugget of information that proved spurious ;) You must be from Liverpool?

One of two choices ; do I take the kudos of Deren Brown like power and hacker status? Or do I admit the code was either very random or a statement? ;)

pre ordered...and waiting for the demo.
Just re-started steam to see if there is any change. It's doing the usual trick of 'pretending' to update, but not actually doing anything.

Anyone else pre purchased?

Some of the head honchos around here did a multibuy option (Iceland meets Steam) Alas I missed the original offer :P That aside , I am sure the ba5tards here will remind us of what we are missing. ;)

Well, trying to be a bit different I pre purchased :D. Tonight we have beer, Thai curry and L4D2 demo. Apart from me having to delete the ClientRegistry.blob and AppUpdateStats.blob files the initial launch seemed ok and have configured the game to my liking. ;)
