Another one got caught today, it's all over the papers. "Teenager
Arrested in Computer Crime Scandal", "Hacker Arrested after Bank
Tampering"... Damn kids. They're all alike. But did you, in your three-
piece psychology and 1950's technobrain, ever take a look behind the
eyes of the hacker? Did you ever wonder what made him tick, what forces
shaped him, what may have molded him? I am a hacker, enter my world...
Mine is a world that begins with school... I'm smarter than most of the
other kids, this crap they teach us bores me... Damn underachiever.
They're all alike. I'm in junior high or high school. I've listened to
teachers explain for the fifteenth time how to reduce a fraction.
I understand it. "No, Ms. Smith, I didn't show my work. I did it in
my head..." Damn kid. Probably copied it. They're all alike.
I made a discovery today. I found a computer. Wait a second, this is
cool. It does what I want it to. If it makes a mistake, it's because I
screwed it up. Not because it doesn't like me... Or feels threatened by
me.. Or thinks I'm a smart ass.. Or doesn't like teaching and shouldn't be
here... Damn kid. All he does is play games. They're all alike. And then
it happened... a door opened to a world... rushing through the phone line
like heroin through an addict's veins, an electronic pulse is sent out,
a refuge from the day-to-day incompetencies is sought... a board is found.
"This is it... this is where I belong..." I know everyone here... even
if I've never met them, never talked to them, may never hear from them
again... I know you all... Damn kid. Tying up the phone line again.
They're all alike... You bet your ass we're all alike... we've been
spoon-fed baby food at school when we hungered for steak... the bits of
meat that you did let slip through were pre-chewed and tasteless.
We've been dominated by sadists, or ignored by the apathetic. The few
that had something to teach found us willing pupils, but those few are
like drops of water in the desert.
This is our world now... the world of the electron and the switch, the

paying for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn't run by profiteering

Interesting JAMES - it might just be my naivety, or a failure to read appropriate materials - but where exactly did you copy that from??? Did you actually read it??? More importantly - do you understand it???

If that is your prose (which I strongly doubt) it does give good insight into the thoughts of most young people in the world today... It touches on an ideology that knows no bounds... An ideology created by the seemingly unlimited possibilities available in an ever-changing world that is at our fingertips yet just beyond our comprehension...

Of course - if you're really intelligent then you'd realise how ignorant that text makes you and anyone else who believes in it sound... It is the voice of the little boy - the dream of being king of the world - the idea that you and you alone can make the difference... It is one of the major problems with society today: you are encouraged to ignore reality and pursue the unachievable... It all boils down to escapism...

Escapism has become the curse of the 20th century and can only become more damaging into the 21st... It comes in many forms but all seem to offer (to the uneducated) a means to leave their humdrum existence and allow them to relive their child like dreams and imaginings...

Quotes: "rushing through the phone line like heroin through an addict's veins", "I know everyone here, even if I've never met them, never talked to them, may never hear from them again"... The feelings outlined here bear close parallel to that of drug induced escapism - the excitement, the feeling of power, the unleashed myriad of possibilities... Talking to strangers, becoming their best friends and within the same evening laying down your plans to change the world together... It is not unusual, there are probably 100s of thousands of people in this country right now who think the same way and millions more who have done at some time...

I suppose it is all part of growing up - the hopes and aspirations of life before the onset of responsibility... Of course the feeling never really dissipates - otherwise no one would have any ambition, it merely subsides as you realise the futility of your thoughts...

All this of course presumes that you have a strong belief that what you're doing is of benefit to others rather than just yourself... If the latter case is true then it is quite disturbing as you've managed to create the illusion that society has one up on you and you are in a struggle to fight back - and will do so regardless of how vindictively you need to do it... Many people in this world will act as you are doing, with a lack of selflessness, if they believe the world has done them a wrong or not given them any opportunities - but I don't think that this is you...

What I am trying to get at is the meaningless of both situations... Society has become very proficient at preventing anarchistic actions - otherwise we wouldn’t still be here today... Unfortunately the transition from ideology to that of realism is not always easy to make and adversity can often slow the process rather than speed it up...

What I will ask of you JAMES is to examine the motives of why you are carrying on as you are - what are your goals??? The text mentioned a dislike of "profiteering gluttons" and if the aim of you and your 'clan' is to fight such establishment organisations then there is hope... Very few people will harbour these aims for their whole life - realising the fruitlessness once they have inadvertently become part of the establishment themselves... Those who attempt a life long fight for the cause will ultimately end up in a self-destructive cycle with minimal returns for their effort...

I'm going to leave you now to digest this - but I want you to know that no one here hates you - we are simply concerned... You see: the more belief and emphasis you place on your ideals the greater the shock when reality comes...

You can answer me this on email if you want ( velvet.n@btinternet.com ) but what have you actually done to benefit me or anyone else on WirePlay??? You've pis.sed a lot of people off and found a bug with the Mail Server which I believe has since been rectified - but that ain't a lot...

So you say that you are trying to help everyone by logging onto the net free and receiving pirated software??? Somehow I don't see that - as we are the people who pay for the minority of dishonest people like you who feel the need to ignore the rules...

Obviously I'd like to get everything for free - but it just isn't possible - and if we could all get free games and internet connections etc then we'd all be too busy using them to write the games or maintain the net... Sadly its another example of the impracticality of what you are putting your faith in...

I'd like to paint a picture:
We all have to buy food to survive...
Some people decide that by shop-lifting they can get food for free...
The people who don't shop-lift are paying more money for their food to cover the cost of the stolen items...
Eventually a shop-lifter is caught... His defence is that he was simply seeing what he could steal and was passing this information on to others so that anyone who wanted to could get items for free instead of purchasing them...

What I'll ask of you this time - is "Is the guy caught stealing from the shop wrong or right - taking in to consideration the majority who he hasn't told and are forced to pay more for their goods???"... I can c all the points in these reasons above, yes hackers can be good to get stuff free from(so i`ve heard) http://www.wireplay.co.uk/ubb/smile.gif, but even comming into contact puts u at risk of them starting to use U for getting their free stuff, as u resist the hacker then becomes more angry at u, then they start picking on U eg mailbombing,viruses etc etc. This causes divisions and more ppl r ****ed.

The point i`m trying to get at is that the problems always will start from the hackers.
Sure its not hard to get into the mailing system, james exposed a weakness and he took it, simple stuff really if u know the basics. James i take it that the talk between us last night was r last. Well goodluck 2 u, just becareful and dont become anymore big headed than u r now, Ur addicted to hacking and until u get caught(which will happen sooner or later) u wont stop, even then u will continue.
