    New stream lined Wireplay

Wireplay at it's peak it was fun and amazing but ran into problems, such is life. Returning to see it now in it's current format is incredible, people can really plug into this community and the ease of access to information is greatly increased, promotion on Steam, the list goes on. Role playing games feature strongly here as does the almighty Half Life Community, not forgetting Freelancer and Wireplays own SCI-FI web based game StarWire. There is a lot more going on now in a much more stream lined space than ever before, to return and see Wireplay now in it's current format has blown me away.

Maybe someone could write a piece of History for Wireplay over at Wikipedia, BarrysWorld is featured there, a contribution from the old school.

I've been wanting to make Wireplay a Wikipedia page for ages, I've just never got around to it. The other problem is that we'd need loads of information about Wireplay, old and current, where are we going to get this info from? Also Wikipedia's users and staff get pretty pissed off if you don't provide links to prove information (they call them 'citations').

A dead letter is a letter that has never been delivered as the person it was written to can't be found & it can't be returned to the person who wrote it.
You know you're a nerd when your gf says: "If you don't get off that computer I'm leaving!" & your instinctive response is to chastise her for not following an "if" statement with an "else" clause.

Long serving community members? I'm sure some of those could provide citation? Barrysworld is a brief, to the point article, noone from BYGames has made an attempt yet.

I'd be interested in doing some research, i did a little the other day, Wireplay's history really is an interesting story to read.

If someone could set up wiki.wireplay.co.uk that'd be pretty cool and we could add certain parts we discover :p

I think anyone can contribute, there must be some form of moderation. An example would be how I feel as an end user of the Barrysworld article, it was written through the eyes of someone who loved the service with a passion but there is no detailed objective view. As one of my first experiences on dial up I can say it was a pleasant one, with a lot less lag, around the 180 - 220 (post midnight QW) and the 220 - 380 (peak times QW) pretty great for 33.6. Barrysworld shall always remain a true legacy of UK fan site creation and development. If there is no true acount of the negative aspects of something then the article cannot be complete because nothing is perfect, it's like listing all of the technological leaps that emerged from the third reich and adding on the end the holocaust in small print . I do not compare the third Reich to BW staff at the time! I am simply saying it has to be a compramise, if something is perfect then there is no debate.

    How boring

Hi guys I actually started writing an early history of Wireplay (from '95 to '99) many years ago for the website, unfortunately I've not been able to find the files for a long time. If my brain still remembers anything I'll have another go - plus of course the archive here goes back a very long way, as does the Google newsgroup cache of alt.games.wireplay!
Yes - this old git is still around (very occasionally)..

I'll help with it, or I'll type it up myself if I get enough info.

Not sure how much info one will find but one can always "rewind" wireplay and see older versions :-

    http://web.archive.org/web/199901251...ireplay.co.uk/

    http://web.archive.org/collections/web.html

Bear in mind not all info is archived but at least the page layouts are intact on the whole

I could probably plug the gaps from post Arenatek to Pipex when I was running Wireplay.
