lets play some different from etf2l/ugc maps
the map pool is pretty weak tbh. i had to choose certain maps i dont like due to a lack of better options...
you should not restrict the pool to official maps only in my opinion
I would love to try out some new maps that aren't featured in UGC or etf2l, but the choices given aren't amazing or have been ruled out as 'unfun maps' through either league or one of the competitions ran in the past (IE: people saying that goldrush/dustbowl just isn't fun through commft highlander tournaments in the past)
suggest some maps then please, that have been playtested would be best.
so let me list some maps.
custom maps that worked well in ugc:
koth_ashville_rc1
koth_pro_viaduct_rc3
cp_follower
pl_swiftwater_ugc
those are some of the best maps in their respective category in my opinion.
other, less known maps that are worth a look:
ctf_converge (we used it in our hl mix, which is played by a lot of div1-3 players, and it got a lot of positive feedback)
cp_croissant (by the maker of gully, not sure how close it is to being finished)
thats all i have for now, ill try to get people to play some of the more obscure maps in the mixes, to provide some feedback, in case the admins are interesting in tinkering with the map pool.
we used ctf_converge last 7v7 as it goes, I also thought it was pretty good fun.
ashville looked far to basic, viaduct pro will likly be used instead of viaduct, follower isnt great imo, and swiftwater is ok.
there is a reason why ashville is incredibly popular in the NA scene (mainly 6v6). all koth maps are pretty basic, thats the whole point. you fight in pretty much one area. i personally would rank it even above lakeside, and it definitely beats nucleus, sawmill and koth_badlands.
swiftwater is only second to badwater when it comes to payload imo, ddefinitely better than barnblitz with its uncappable last point, and i dont think we have to talk about goldrush or thundermountain (the latter didnt work in sw mode due to a bug on the last stage iirc). also, bo3 would be impossible on goldrush/thundermountain, due to the time required for one round.
concerning follower, that map works surprisingly well in highlander. its big enough, yet not as "stale-maty" as granary or foundry. definitely one of the better 5cp maps for hl.
you could also give cp_obscure a shot. its a well tested map, yet noone used it in hl so far.

I'd like to see cp_snakewater, I played it 3 times in highlander already and it was good fun.
also, koth_ashville_rc1+pl_swiftwater_ugc+cp_obscure as weinzey already mentioned
Needs more Goldrush.
please add pl_swiftwater_ugc and cp_croissant. some ctf map might also be great
agree, ashville is the best koth map
cft_turbin_pro is a nice map,
swiftwater should be in the mappool
and wonder why you did not include cp_steel into mappool, the best highlander map
Needs more hydro, otherwise a nice map pool, though lacks some viable custom maps.
many good maps missing....the map cycle will be nearly the same as in ETF2L. I am really thinking of joining a team if we have nice maps(any german Wireplay leaders, feel free to add me xD)
Personally, I think Swiftwater should be included into the vote, match on UCG was great fun.
As mentioned, Dustbowl/Gold Rush just takes too long with stopwatch...they are pub maps, simply not made for competetive TF2 gameplay.
For the CP maps, i am missing the classics ( Granary worked well in UCG, I think Badlands would do it too and it´s something "new" in HL mode.)
The KOTH maps... I find Lakeside is the worst map in the whole game, but its just my opinion....seems to be kinda popular though. Maybe Hydro would really be a good choice instead of one KOTH map.
Actually, yes, TC_HYDRO. Comp. 9v9 is probably the only thing where you can effectively play that map with just 1 engineer and no instantrespawn.
any league that hosts tc_hydro cant call itself competitive thoughso there will never be a comp game on hydro^^
I hate to break the news to you, but no official map was designed for competitive play apart from some of the community created maps which became official later. Badlands and Granary are average at best for HL. It's either a 5-0 roll or a very slow paced game. Same for Gullywash but it tends to work better.
I'd suggest Dustbowl/Goldrush are done bo1 not bo3 but it looks unlikely either of them will make their way into the map pool. If you really wanted to, use cp_dustbowl_pro which takes out stage 3.
Also Hydro? The map is a failed experiment and is imbalanced. There's an article somewhere which explains all of its flaws.
I do agree with you on Lakeside - that map is garbage. I think it gets voted because it's the most tolerable koth map aside from Viaduct.
I think the maps should be decided by the admins for next season because people just vote for the norm. ETF2L already has them.

agree, many good maps missing. I'd like these maps
pl - swiftwater (great map, played on ugc), upward, goldrush/hoodoo/barnblitz
koth - viaduct, ashville, thundermountin
cp - steel, gullywash, folower
I think there should be more maps that aren't popular in the league, it gets quite boring playing the same maps on different leagues.
I'd rather play Swiftwater than Badwater, personally. I'd also love to see cp_prolane involved if we're doing 5cp, that map never gets any love.
